Chapter 10 - A Player Knows The Hounds Game

Jin twitches, feeling Ashton's smaller body slump in his arms; his limbs go limp as his breathing slows and softens, his hot breath tingling Jin's neck as Jin holds his sheath sword in on hand, the other on the backs of the man in his arms.

"Mine." The devil inside him stirs in his head, oddly so, which never happens, as the devil in his is usually reasonable, never restless. "Agnis-mine-he-mine-how-he-?"

How it works is odd yet fitting--two voices in one head, sharing one body--one takes control when the other loses it. Jin usually is better than this; more specifically, not losing control, only letting Berserker fly lose and cause havoc if the occasion calls for such rituals, but for the entirety that this short boy has rammed into his life, he's consistently, continuously, have lost so much control Jin doesn't know what control means anymore.

Jin sighs, closes his eyes, and then he blinks, standing straight and tall, wearing all black in a room filled with shadows, the only light inside of it a bright beam through a closed window, creating a spotlight for him to stand in.

Jin raises an eyebrow, feeling a mist croak near his ear before it swirls around his body, ghosting a touch near his pale ears and neck.

"You usually are better than this, Berserker--which says a lot." Jin said, hearing the echo of his voice bounce inside of his head. "Why are you acting so weird-?"

"Miss little flame." The voice said, their tone dripped in sadness. "Miss little flame. Pain. Pain. Angry. Took him. Very angry-."

...

There's a soft nudge to his shoulder that causes Jin to jolt, blinking his eyes as his vision goes from blurry, to sort-of-blurry, to finally normal. Jin groans, holding his head with his right hand as he suddenly stops, looking down to see Ashton--that short bastard--lay against Jin's muscular chest, his face relaxed, his breath even, and his usual creased eyebrows soften like melted butter.

Jin opens his mouth, wanting to be utterly cruel and yell right in Ashton's ear, but something tells him to cool it for now, so he huffs, turning his head with a soft flush on his cheeks.

"The fuck?" Jin said, a scowl on his face. "What the fuck?"

"Is that all you have to say?" It's Killer Brigade that is the first to slam the door from the glass room to the other room Jin is in open, waltzing causally to Jin as her soft hazel eyes glisten with amusement. "You almost cracked the poor kids skull, and that's it? Jeez, you really are a devil."

"Fuck off." Jin said, a deeper scowl on his lips. "I didn't even hit him that hard. I think..."

"It was pretty mean..." First Shooter follows behind Killer Brigade as she aims a soft, pitying look to Ashton's sleeping form. "He's got muscle for sure, so that'll help. But he's still so short, really short. Like a kitten."

Killer Brigade snorts, coughs in her hand, and offers Jin a blank expression in kind to his scowl.

"I wouldn't be too worried." There's Boss' voice that echos through the stereo chambers of the room. Jin looks up, his face set in a deeper scowl as he hears her grating voice pound in his ears. "If the devil he contracted is so, he'll be more than capable of handling a few more hits."

"What is that even suppose to mean…?" Jin said, raising en eyebrow. "You found out that shit already? How-oh."

Jin looks up, meeting eyes with Vinci, who offers a friendly wave and emotionless expression as he looks down below. Jin nods his head in greeting back, watching as Vinci points to his phone and mouths the words "Buddha Bastard."

"Ah, so I see you got some help." Jin said, a sigh leaving his plump lips. "Alright, great—shit. Who's the amazing devil that has been bestowed upon shrimp over here-?"

"Agnis." Boss said. Jin jolts, feelings his body freeze and his body shiver hearing that name roll off her tongue.

"Mine! Mine!" The voice in his head responds in kind. Jin frowns, making sure to tell the bastard in his brain to settle down there buddy…!

"Ah, I've been hearing that name from Berserker often." Jin said, taking his pinky and picking his ear. "Don't know what the hell that means, though."

"For someone so smart, you sure chose when to be dumb." Killer Brigade snorts, rolling her eyes. "It looks like you definitely slept through that Devil 101 Course for orientation."

"I didn't sleep through it." Jin said, rolling his eyes. "I didn't show up."

"To admit that is a bit..." It's the man with the brown hair's voice Jin hears through the speakers next. There's a soft sigh next to him--obviously cause by Boss, before she softly continues.

"Agnis, if you weren't aware, is quite the devil." The Boss said. "I'm surprised a human is even able to contract with him. He's quite powerful, honestly even deadly to devils themselves."

"Cut to the chase." Jin said. "Who the fuck is he?"

"Agnis is who you'd expect from such a name." Boss said, walking close enough to the glass that she's peering down at Jin emotionless. "Agnis is a king, most specifically, he is the Devil King of fire."

"Y-y-you mean this little guy here?" Jin said, pointing to Ashton with a funny expression on his face. "Is one of the five devil pillars of Hell? That kind of king?!"

"So you at least studied on your own well enough, that's reassuring." Boss said. "Yes, we will study the boy more, but it seems to be that is the devil he has contracted with. Poor, poor boy."

"Ah...then if you're going to study him, that means I'll leave him here and be on my merry way, right?" Jin asked, pointing his thumb to the room's exit. "I wouldn't want to rain on your parade-."

"There's no need to leave him here." Boss said, tilting her head to the side, but a small smile creeps on her lips, enough that it makes Jin squeal internally.

"A-am I leaving him with Killer Brigade?" Jin asked. "M-maybe First Shooter. She's quite a nice girl-."

"Why did you think I agreed to an increase of you salary?" Boss asked, her tone sounding a bit too mocking for Jin's liking. "It gets a bit expensive taking care of two people in this economic."

"W-what…?" Jin asked. "I don't-wait-don't fucking tell me-?!"

"Meet your new roommate, Mad Dog." Boss said, a soft smile on her face. "Your long term mission will be to surveillance the boy, keep tabs, run missions with him as he starts his journey at Co-a double mentor, shall I say-?"

"No fucking way-?!" Jin roars. "You played me-!"

"I played better than you." Boss said, softly shrugging. "You have many years to even get on my level, Mad Dog. Now be a good boy and take care of your new pet mate."

There's a whistle from next to Jin, caused by Killer Brigade, who looks anywhere but at Jin's angry face as she kicks her short legs and swing her hands behind her back.

"B-but I-." Jin starts to say, feeling dread wash over him. "B-but-I've never had a roommate..."

"It's always good to learn new experiences young." Boss said, turning away as she waves her agents off. "Come back tomorrow with him to start his training and get his weaponry and uniform. Agents, you are dismissed."

Jin blinks, hearing the door above shut loudly enough to echo in the speakers. He numbly feels First Shooter lightly pat his shoulder in comfort while Killer Brigade offers him a cocky smirk before they both leave, shutting the door behind them. Jin swallows, not even thinking as he slowly stands up, wobbles to the door, opens and shuts it while maneuvering Ashton in his arms.

Jin hazardly stumbles to his black Mercedes, clicks the car open, slides in after shoving Ashton's sleeping form on the other side, and speeding off to his--I mean, his and Ashton's new home.

When Jin finally arrive home after the drive, he parks his car, grips his steering wheel, and screams.
