Chapter 203 - Chapter 203: The Beginning of the Conflict! (Double-Length)

Roger's death did not mark the end of an era, it was the beginning of one.

The public execution of the Pirate King had only just begun to ripple across the world. His final words, broadcasted and repeated through every known means, became a rallying cry for countless dreamers seeking sudden wealth and adventure. Men and women everywhere took to the seas, charging into the Grand Line in pursuit of the fabled One Piece.

Even the once peaceful seas fell into chaos. The East Blue, long hailed as a symbol of peace, became a breeding ground of ambition and disorder, partly because Loguetown, the place of Roger's execution, had drawn pirates from all corners of the world.

These pirates, gathered in one place, provided unexpected aid to would-be adventurers, and the East Blue suddenly became the most unstable of the Four Seas.

Roger's death had another consequence beyond social chaos, it brought trouble for those once close to him.

With the Pirate King dead, the World Government began its purge. The CP agents launched global operations to search for all people and objects connected to Roger.

Roger's former crewmates became primary targets. Even Tom, the fish-man known as the world's greatest shipwright who had built Roger's ship, was marked for death.

The crime? Building a ship for the Pirate King.

He was sentenced to execution. But the government postponed it, allowing Tom to first complete construction of the sea train for Water 7. Once his task was done, he would be taken away and executed.

On the day after Roger's death, the World Government had already made its first capture. A former crewmate of Roger's, someone who had recently seen him before his surrender, was apprehended.

Through underhanded means, a CP9 Devil Fruit user extracted vital information: the knowledge that Roger had a wife, and that she was pregnant.

Fortunately, Roger had been vague. He never shared her name or precise location. This gave the government pause. But they were still shocked.

Roger had a child?

Unacceptable.

Roger had already given them a headache, he was a carrier of the dreaded Will of D. His child would be even worse. A demon's child.

They could not allow this child to be born.

All other priorities were pushed aside. The full force of the World Government turned toward locating Roger's wife and unborn child.

With this revelation, their attention to Patrilia Island in the South Blue intensified. It had already been flagged as a location Roger once stayed, but now, its significance soared. Investigations revealed that after his journey to Laugh Tale, Roger had spent nearly all his remaining time on this island.

A full lockdown was ordered. All women of childbearing age, married or not, were to be interrogated.

And due to a shortage of CP personnel, nearby Marine branches were mobilized. One Rear Admiral led a force of nearly a thousand Marines from three or four branches to aid the investigation.

Patrilia Island became a military zone.

Kyros and his group, who had already found Rouge, were now trapped.

Their original plan had been simple: wait until the government left, then discreetly take Rouge away. No one had expected the news of Roger's child to leak. And once it did, any ship attempting to leave would be subjected to strict inspection.

Sneaking Rouge off the island in silence became impossible. Force would bring trouble, and Kyros refused to risk implicating Vice Admiral Yoriichi.

But once the lockdown was ordered, even staying became a danger.

At midday, the streets erupted in chaos.

Kyros and the others peered out the window, watching squads of Marines rush past.

The government had completed its census of the island's women. They knew who was pregnant.

Today, they would begin the arrests.

To ensure "no accidents," the government issued an order: execute all pregnant women on the island, along with their unborn children.

It was a monstrous decree.

And yet, this was already a "concession."

Originally, the World Government had intended to use a Buster Call.

Fleet Admiral Kong had barely managed to talk them down from that decision, earning just enough favor to have the sentence reduced to these executions. His influence, unlike Sakazuki's in the future, still held some sway.

But even this "reduction" was already an abomination of justice.

Vice Admiral Garp was furious. Upon learning of the order, he stormed out of Marineford and returned to his homeland in the East Blue.

Others in the Marines objected, but all dissent was crushed under Kong's authority.

What difference did protests make? The outcome would not change.

On the street below, another squad of Marines passed by. Kyros frowned, deeply disturbed.

They didn't know what was happening, only that the island was sealed, and no ships were allowed to leave.

"I don't know what's going on," Kyros muttered. "But it looks like we're stuck here for a while."

"Should we report this to Vice Admiral Yoriichi?" Issho asked, standing by the window, his Observation Haki sensing the soldiers' numbers and movements. Something about this day felt wrong.

He wasn't alone in this dread. Kyros and Mihawk felt it too.

Even the common folk were on edge, an oppressive tension hung over the entire town.

"Let's wait a bit longer," Kyros said. "It could be temporary. If we panic over every little thing, we're not worthy of Yoriichi's trust."

"I'll go down and ask around. Maybe I can learn what's happening."

As he moved toward the door, a loud shout erupted from the street.

They looked outside.

A pregnant woman was being dragged from her home by Marines. Her husband, a thin, frantic man, clung to the soldier's cape, screaming.

"What are you doing?! Why are you taking my wife?!"

"She's done nothing wrong! You have the wrong person!"

One of the Marines, brows furrowed with pity, said nothing, then struck the man across the jaw with the butt of his rifle.

The man crumpled.

"This is a direct order," the Marine said coldly. "We're not mistaken."

The orders had come from the government. Headquarters had commanded every Marine branch to support CP9's operations.

But the dirty work, arrests and executions, was left to the Marines. CP9 didn't want to get their hands bloody.

Even these blood-soaked assassins still avoided tasks that would draw public outrage.

Though really, they didn't care. Not truly.

The Marines, cold and emotionless, marched the pregnant woman away.

Then,

A young warrior with a greatsword blocked their path.

Behind him stood a blind swordsman, and a man with hawk-like eyes.

"Is this what you call justice?" Kyros asked quietly. His tone was calm, but his fury was barely contained.

"What crime did she commit?"

The Marines froze.

A thirty-something sergeant stepped forward, barking orders.

"We're on an official mission. Civilians, stand down. Or face the consequences."

The soldiers raised their rifles.

Kyros's eyes widened. "You call this justice?"

A growl rumbled in his chest.

"We don't answer to civilians!" the sergeant shouted.

As he raised his hand to signal the others,

Someone tugged on his sleeve.

It was a young private, pale and nervous.

"S-Sergeant… I think… I've seen them before."

The sergeant ignored him. "Orders are orders!"

But the private shoved a newspaper into his hand. "They're Marines too!"

The sergeant looked down. The paper was an old one, featuring Yoriichi's capture of Roger. And behind Yoriichi in the photo, were Kyros, Mihawk, and Issho.

His face changed instantly.

"You… you're…"

He quickly ordered the rifles lowered, then approached and saluted. These men weren't just Marines, they were those Marines.

The ones who had captured the Pirate King.

The ones from the Dawn Division.

"Sir," the sergeant said stiffly, unsure how to address them.

Kyros stared at him, rage still simmering.

"Now tell me. What did that woman do?"

The pregnant woman, still being held nearby, screamed, "Nothing! I haven't done anything!"

"I'm innocent! Please!"

The cries tore through the street.

The sergeant glanced around nervously at the gathering crowd, then leaned in and whispered:

"Sir, we're from South Blue Branch S-331. Our orders are to support CP9."

"The mission… is to capture every pregnant woman on the island. Execute them. Secretly."

"Apparently… Roger had a wife. And she's pregnant."

Kyros froze.

His eyes widened.

"You're executing all pregnant women?!"

He had been angry before. But now, his fury exploded.

The crowd heard his roar, and many fled in panic.

All across the island, similar scenes were unfolding, screams, shouts, and sobs echoing through the streets.

Once-peaceful Patrilia was now a burning hell.

"You bastards!!" Kyros roared, seizing the sergeant by his collar and lifting him clean off the ground.

"Who's in charge of this mission?! I want to see him! I'm Kyros of the Dawn Division in the New World!"

His shout rang far and wide. Marines raised their rifles again.

But the sergeant waved them down. "Don't shoot! Get Rear Admiral Kober on the line!"

A communications soldier scrambled for a Den Den Mushi, while Kyros dropped the sergeant to the ground with a snarl.

He pulled out his own Den Den Mushi.

This had gone too far.

The order came from Marine Headquarters, his rank wasn't enough to stop it.

But he would not stand by and watch such a massacre unfold.

He had to report this to Yoriichi.

He knew,

Yoriichi would never let this happen.
