-Liz's POV-
The light literally blinds me, which should not have happened but it still did. After who knows how long, I try blinking and find that I can see clearly. Though the problem is, the first thing that I see is a huge scorpion which should not be here in this world as it's literally 20 meters tall with black scales covering its body and a tail with a spike that is at least half its own size, screeching and thrashing all around.
'I think it has been blinded by the.....light? But why is this thing here? I did not bring anyone or anything with me other than Reinard. As much as I remember this thing should not be here in this world.'
I think for a minute, countless possibilities run through my head and finally decide that it's best to just kill it now so that it won't cause disasters later on. I make a simple mana blade with my hand which has an eerie colour of red with some hints of black in it and slash it vertically bisecting the scorpion in two halves, despite my hand being smaller than the scorpion, the size of the blade becomes larger as soon as I release it from my hands. As I see the two halves fall, I look around and try to take a deep breathe but the unexpected happens as I also breathe some mana with it, which is a surprise to me as my body constantly breathes mana and the world which I remember did not have any mana in it, I couldn't sense it at first but as I continue breathing, I feel the mana around me.
I wield the mana around me to make wings on my back and fly a few miles up to get a view of the planet. The sight is rather disastrous as I see monsters the size of skyscrapers in the distance, sleeping soundly and even snoring a bit. I hear this through my enhanced ears which can hear up to any amount of distance as long as I supply them with mana. I cast a mana sensing spell throughout the planet without ever connecting it back to me or disrupting anyone on the planet which immediately tells me the situation of the world. It only takes a minute to process the information as I see some rather disturbing sights, some joyful and some amusing.
'So first of all there are monsters everywhere and dungeons all around the world', which I got to know because of huge mana spikes constantly being released in those areas. 'Secondly there is mana and every human has it in their body', which is absolutely not normal for my original planet. 'Thirdly the world's gone to shit with only half of the population alive from what I remember.' I mean it's not that bad of a situation as humans do populate themselves a lot in a short time but still bad.
"This is not what I was expecting to see when I get back....right, Reinard. I had expected to live a peaceful life here but it seems fate has different plans." I say while looking back at the person standing behind me.
I had already called Reinard out of my inner world to show him the beauty of my birthplace but as it seems, fate has different plans.
"Let's get going Reinard, I want to visit a city to know what the hell is going on here."
Reinard nods and follows me as we both use mana wings which are transparent and white in colour, to fly and cover up the distance to the nearest city which apparently is Las Vegas, the city which never sleeps. As we near the city, I tell Reinard to slow down and stop a few miles away from the city as we both don't know if flying is treated as a threat or not. I absolutely did not want to create chaos as soon as we arrived here.
I see a wall in the distance which is at least 100 meters tall, about the same height as those entities that I saw while casting the mana sense spell. It is guarded with heavy artillery powered by mana as far as I can tell as nothing other than mana would be able to kill the monsters. 'Did they really create these weapons?' I think to myself as I also see a few people standing on the walls and near the lowest part of the wall 'probably guards of the city or maybe even police wielding mana'.
As we approach the wall, I immediately hide both mine and Reinard's features using a simple disguise spell like that of the adventurers that I saw entering the gate in the wall, so as to not arouse suspicion with both of our regular clothes which we have always worn in Elanoir. We stand in the line to enter the city and wait for our turn.
"From the looks of it you appear to be adventurers, state your business and pay 1000 dollars for entering the city" For some reason the guards were rather lax and did not ask for anything else other than money. I had thought of using a mind spell to let us pass through but gave up on it, not bothering to cast a spell.
"Yes we are adventurers and we want to visit the Adventurers Guild in the city and to meet a dear friend of mine, also 1000 dollars is not the real price...now is it?" I answer his question with my own question as he is literally trying to rob us in daylight.
Who pays fucking 1000 dollars to enter a city, I saw the nearby adventurers paying 500 dollar for a party of 5 people meaning a 100 dollar each.
"Fine, give 200 dollars and move on, I don't have the whole day to argue with you" The guard says with a grunt.
I take out 200 dollars from my pocket that I obviously stole and hand it to him. After entering the gate, what I see is the same city that I thought it to be. A city bustling with life and full of people. 'I guess behind the walls is where the real world still lives huh'. I look around as I see the same streets filled with people walking around, some stalls selling food, huge buildings and much more. Still a bit less than the previous glamour of the city.
"Reinard, I have something that I want you to do. Use the mind spell to get the knowledge of how this shit happened and why? After finding the answers I want you to come find me at the Adventurers Guild." Why Adventurers Guild? Because I had overheard the conversation of the people outside the wall. It only made sense that if monsters are there, there has to be some righteous establishment to deal with them.
"Yes master, is there anything else you need me to do?" Reinard asks while looking around the city filled with people, buying stuff and chatting their lives away.
I shake my head and soon he vanishes from my side, most likely using a veil spell to cover himself.
I begin walking in the direction of the biggest building in the city, which I assume is the adventurers guild because why would a place where you can earn money be some small ass tavern type building, I mean it has to be big.....right?
-A Few Minutes Later-
I stand in front of the biggest building with a huge signboard "Las Vegas Adventurers Guild". Not a wooden signboard but a digitized version with the words Las Vegas Adventurer's Guild sliding across.
'Well, what could go wrong here' is what I thought but a lot of shit's about to happen here which would be difficult for me to explain to others. I enter through the door and to my surprise I find a decent enough establishment inside the building with some similarities to the taverns on Elanoir, like the bar, the tables , the reception and other stuff like that all made of iron rather than the wood.
I walked around a little bit observing the adventurers and tasting a few drinks at the bar which were obviously not strong enough for me. I pay the bartender using the money that I stole from the people outside the wall. I eventually ended up at the reception desk, talking to a woman who appears to be around 20 years old.
"Hey there!"
"Hello miss, how may I help you?"
"Well I have always wanted to be an adventurer my whole life and now that the opportunity is here why should I miss it"
"So you want to be an adventurer but why do you look like you already are an adventurer?"
"Ah, the clothes are just for the aesthetic you know, so tell me how I can become a real adventurer?"
"Miss..?"
"Lizandra"
"So Miss Lizandra we have two types of test for adventurers, first is the physical test and the second is the mana test. The first one measures the amount of Physical power you have and the second one tests the Capacity and the Magic power that you have"
'This is gonna be a problem if I don't limit myself'
"After the assessment we assign ranks to individuals from F Rank to S Rank. With S rank being the second highest. After that comes The Guardian Class Rank, the highest one. So would you like to do the tests now or later?"
"I'd like to be tested now. I've not come here just for the show you know. Also I have a friend who also wants to be tested now." I say enthusiastically, just for the sake of it.
"Sure Miss Lizandra,just wait in the testing line over there" She says politely.
She points me to a line with over 20 people waiting to be tested. I walk to the end of the line and stand there for what feels like eternity as I am not accustomed to standing to wait for my turn and just bulldoze my way through everything. I think about the things I have seen until now about how the world has changed. I start making a few plans in my head which I will be telling to Reinard later on. As I am thinking about this a person appears behind me who tries to touch my rear but I immediately turn around and slap him across the face, although with less power because if I had used more power his head might have exploded. After getting slapped in the face and falling on the floor with blood frothing at his mouth (causing a more serious internal injury than I had thought it would), his buddies don't stand idly and rush at me to capture me.
"You hit our brother….."
"Come here you little piece of shit…"
"Argghhh..."
They charge at me while shouting curses. All while this is happening none of the people present try to even move to help me, they just stand there like mannequins, observing the show, not bothered by the scene at all.
I raise my hand to slap both of his buddies but I see a shadow running at me who interrupts my hand and caresses it, although my hand looks fine the person caressing it is filled with rage and turns to crush all three of their heads with his hands gripping around them quite literally squishing their head, popping them like watermelons one by one.
Until now no one had moved to interrupt the fight but when three people had died suddenly all hell broke loose and people start filling the guild wearing police like uniforms and trying to arrest both me and Reinard which proves to be impossible for them as they can't move us even a millimetre from the spots we were standing on.
"Hey man this is just bullshit...That trash tried to grope my ass and now after killing those degenerates we are being arrested? What kind of law is this?" I say while trying to think of a few ways to escape but the receptionist that I had talked with emerges and takes a stand for us.
"Officer it is true that those people were harassing her and you know how the law is for adventurers." The receptionist tells the officer with a firm voice.
"Fine, show me the proof and I'll back off" says the officer while mumbling curses under his breath, the receptionist goes back to the control room to retrieve the footage and comes back five minutes later.
"Here you go Officer" The lady hands the footage to the officer while sighing.
"Alright but if I find you again there will be heavy penalties charged against you." The officer leaves the guild with the footage as proof of what happened. Later on the receptionist tells me that killing between adventurers is a common thing but not inside walls. So having a reason and proof as to why Reinard killed those three guys, the officer had no choice but to back down and warn us.
