Chapter 12 - 12

## Chapter 12: I Only Have You

Jenny had been in a vegetative state for five years.

During this time, there had been several major and minor emergency rescues, each one a brush with death.

The doctor said that for someone with Jenny's injuries, surviving at all was already a miracle. The possibility of her waking up was almost zero.

Moreover, as her complications increased, even with the most meticulous care, she might not have much time left.

In this world, nothing leaves one more helpless than fate.

Jane's figure swayed, a buzzing sound appeared in her ears, and for a moment, she couldn't hear anything clearly.

Auntie Tong felt a pang in her heart and vigorously patted Jane's back.

Just as she was about to offer some words of comfort, Jane's voice, as light as a feather, slowly rose:

"The year my father found Jenny was winter. She didn't even have shoes on her feet and was shivering from the cold. My parents took off their coats to wrap her, but she kept hiding and struggling, though she never cried."

"I reached out to hold her hand. I told her, 'Don't be afraid, we'll all protect you.'"

"At that moment, she suddenly started crying, crying so hard that I was at a loss, not knowing how to comfort her."

"Later, my parents adopted her and named her Jenny. No matter where we were, little Star was always closest to me."

"She was actually very timid and had nightmares every night, then would come to my room crying with snot and tears."

"At school, she didn't like to talk and was often bullied by classmates. I always stood up for her."

"But this same little coward, when those people broke into our home with knives, stood in front of me."

"For five years, she's been trapped alone in a nightmare, how frightened she must be..."

Jane leaned against the wall, looking up at the lit emergency room, her eyes red.

"She's the only family I have left."

"I only have you..."

Jenny, stay alive.

I will find those who hurt you and avenge you with my own hands.

Wait for me, just wait a little longer.

After another two hours, the light in the emergency room finally went out.

The doctor walked out, removed his mask, and revealed a smile. "The patient has a strong will to live. She's out of danger for now."

Phew.

Jane stood up from the wall, only to find her legs were weak.

By the time Jenny was finally wheeled back to her previous rehabilitation room, it was already one in the morning. The doctor gave many precautions before leaving.

Auntie Tong brought a basin of hot water and skillfully wiped Jenny's face, smiling, "It's all right now, let's clean up. From now on, everything will be peaceful!"

Jane smiled too.

The emotional rollercoaster of the night had left her physically and mentally exhausted.

It was already the early hours of the morning, and Auntie Tong couldn't stay awake any longer. She set up the small caregiver's bed, intending to let Jane lie down and sleep for a while.

Jane shook her head, "I'm not tired. Auntie Tong, you sleep."

Auntie Tong yawned. Being older, she couldn't handle staying up late and quickly fell asleep after lying down.

Jane sat by the hospital bed, looking at Jenny's sleeping face, gently tucking in her blanket.

For a moment, Jenny's eyelids seemed to flutter, as if she were about to open her eyes.

Jane was so excited she held her breath and called softly, "Little Star?"

The person on the bed remained motionless.

Had she been mistaken?

Jane sighed and sat back down, leaning against the wall. Her body was tired, but she didn't feel sleepy at all.

Her chest felt heavy, filled with countless hatreds.

She sat like this for a long time, until her phone vibrated twice.

[Boss, I got the item. Want to pick it up another day?]

Jane finally moved and replied:

[Tonight. I'm coming now.]

...

Twenty minutes later, Jane arrived at the entrance of a bar.

The bar was called 'Wildfire,' and its business style was indeed both wild and fiery. It had burst onto the scene three years ago, immediately attracting Cloud City's fun-loving rich second-generation crowd, and quickly made a name for itself!

The person in charge of Wildfire was a woman in her early thirties, surnamed Chen. She was both beautiful and savvy, adaptable and sociable, able to maintain good relationships with everyone.

Customers called her Boss Chen, but she would smile and wave her hand, saying she was just the manager, not the boss.

Over time, people began to wonder who the never-seen boss actually was, hidden so deeply—it was hard not to be curious.

But no matter how much the customers guessed, it remained a mystery.

Jane got out of the taxi and entered the bar through the back door.

As soon as she entered, the heavy metal music poured directly into her ears, every beat and rhythm making her blood boil.

The lights overhead were dazzling and brilliant. On the stage, the energetic dance was so vibrant it made one dizzy.

The atmosphere had reached a peak.

Jane turned a corner, not going further inside, but passing through a long corridor and arriving with practiced familiarity at a closed rest room. She unlocked the password lock and went in.

The soundproofing in this rest room was excellent. Once the door closed, the drumbeats from outside couldn't be heard at all.

Jane sat down on the sofa and casually picked up the income statement spread out on the table.

Wildfire's expenses were very high, after all, it employed a large staff. Besides rent and costs, the welfare benefits for each employee were exceptional, something other bars couldn't match.

But in recent months, profits had been gradually declining.

Jane raised an eyebrow.

At this moment, the door opened and closed, and Chen Yanling, Wildfire's manager, entered carrying two cups of coffee.

Seeing Jane, Chen Yanling didn't maintain the efficient and capable demeanor she showed to others. She immediately transformed into a complainer and launched into venting mode:

"My goodness, those rich second-generation kids outside are so difficult to deal with!"

"Especially that Young Master Johnson. I don't know who offended him, but he's been picking on our drink-serving waiters, forcing them to change their names, saying he hates people with the surname Jiang, especially those who can sing opera. I've had it!"

Chen Yanling rolled her eyes dramatically and continued, "I really want to tell him that my boss's surname is Jiang and can sing opera too, see if that annoys him!"

Jane: "..."

So Young Master Johnson was here too.

What a coincidence.

As Chen Yanling spoke, she finally realized something. She stared at Jane and burst out laughing, "Boss, the person Young Master Johnson was talking about, it wouldn't happen to be you, would it?"

Jane couldn't be bothered with her and extended her hand, urging, "Where's the item? Give it to me."

"Oh."

Unable to get any gossip, Chen Yanling was somewhat disappointed, but she didn't dare delay the important matter. She bent down and pulled out a safe from under the table.

Inside was neither stacks of cash nor any treasure, just a small ring.

The design of the ring was exquisite—a lifelike butterfly.

The shape was realistic, even the colors on the butterfly's wings were crafted with perfect detail.

Jane gently flicked it, then put the ring on her finger.

Having obtained what she came for, Jane was ready to leave without even drinking her coffee. Chen Yanling quickly stopped her, "Good boss, please do me a favor and help out?"

"What favor?"

"Our Wildfire business is too good, and people from other bars come to sabotage us every day. We've lost a lot of customers. To win people over, we need a trump card!"

Jane raised an eyebrow, "So?"

"So... I want you to go on stage and lead a dance!"

Chen Yanling winked and pressed her palms together, calculating rapidly, "Please, boss! This is your own business! For the sake of money, you can't refuse, right?"

Jane smiled, "I refuse."

...

In the bar's booth, Young Master Johnson had already drunk many glasses.

The short-haired girl in his arms giggled and pouted, "Young Master Johnson, you just drank someone else's, and I haven't even had a sip of mine yet!"

"Is that so?"

Johnson teased, taking the glass and gulping down a large mouthful, then grabbing the girl's chin and kissing her.
