Chapter 283 - Chapter 283: Bringing Frieren Around

[So... any plans to actually leave soon?]

After a whole month of taking it easy, the voice in Shichen's head—her—finally broke the silence. She didn't sound rushed, just... exasperated.

And honestly? She had a point. Shichen had been living his best life.

Now that Kasumigaoka Utaha had learned spatial teleportation, she'd been skipping classes just to hang out with him. And their hangouts? Definitely not PG. They'd been spending time out at sea doing the kind of "games" that adults play—the kind where your souls practically sync. A deep-dive into "the origins of life," as he jokingly called it.

Utaha kept coming back for more, not because she was winning—oh no, she kept getting completely wrecked. Every time, she'd end up pinned, outmatched, and begging for mercy.

So naturally, she kept challenging him, trying to turn the tables and reclaim some dignity.

Too bad for her—Shichen recovered faster than anyone. And on top of that? He still had energy to mess around in the clouds with Tohru. Literally. They played on clouds.

Yesterday was one of those days. And Tohru, being a dragon, was built different. Physically, there was just no competition—neither Chisato nor Utaha could compare.

They only meant to mess around while grabbing groceries... but they lost track of time. By noon, the café could only serve coffee because they hadn't brought back anything else. When they finally returned, Chisato lit them up.

Living like this, it's no wonder she started getting antsy.

"You in a hurry or something?"

Leaning on the counter, chin propped on one hand, Shichen glanced over at the group of women sneakily taking pictures of him. He gave them a slight smile.

Well, he was the café owner. Had to maintain the aesthetic. Can't let anyone snap a bad photo.

[I'm not the one in a hurry. But you—aren't you kinda wasting time like this every day?]

"Not at all. I'm having a great time."

[…You're completely hopeless.]

"Hey, not my fault they're all so cute and tempting."

[Seriously? That's your excuse?]

"Honestly? I would've been content with just one. But now that there's so many... yeah, I got greedy."

[Then why are you still here? Don't you want to meet the rest?]

"It's only been a month, hasn't it?"

[A month… You even know what you've been doing this whole time?]

"Just... you know, spreading love in case of emergencies~"

[Wow. What an achievement.]

"Thanks for the praise."

[…When are you leaving?]

"Soon. Maybe."

[Maybe?]

"Unless you tell me who you really are."

[Nope. You have to figure it out yourself—your own words, remember?]

"…You're really gonna play it like that?"

[Yup. Good luck.]

Her voice softened, almost teasing:

[Once you gather all the Divine Fragments, you'll know who I am. You'll also be able to…]

"To what?"

[Play with the girls every day.]

"Ahem—let the record show, I'm not addicted. They were all the ones being proactive."

[Heh~]

"Alright, fine. I'll leave soon, happy? But first, answer me one thing."

[I'm not answering anything—]

"It's not that question."

[Then what?]

"Are you the sister Est was talking about?"

[…Hmm…]

"Cool. Then yeah—I'll head out in the next couple of days."

[Good. Time to go take back what's yours.]

"What exactly is 'mine'? Which world?"

[You'll see when you get there.]

"…Fine. Before that, I need to pick someone up."

[…You really like her, don't you?]

"I just don't want her to be alone."

[She was not her before…]

"What'd you say?"

[I said, do whatever you want.]

"Haha~ jealous, aren't you?"

Two days later, Shichen left.

Even without her nagging, he knew it was time. Comfort was nice, but he was ready to see the others again.

One day, he'd bring everyone together—then, and only then, would true peace start.

Well... peace and chaos, probably. He wasn't even sure how many people that would be. He might need to build a whole island just to fit them all.

Luckily, with magic, logistics weren't a concern. No outsiders. No distractions.

This time, he brought only Est—and Yatogami Tenka, who lived inside him.

He thought about bringing Yami too, but figured it was better for her to stay and bond with the others for now.

Instead of jumping straight to a new world, Shichen stopped by Frieren's.

He teleported right outside the familiar trio of small cabins and spotted that familiar flash of silver hair instantly.

But what caught him off guard?

Flamme was there too.

"Shichen! Long time no see."

Flamme gave him a warm smile.

Frieren lazily opened one eye to glance his way, then shut it again.

"Master!" Shichen ran up to her like a kid and hugged her tight.

"What's this now?" Flamme chuckled and patted his head.

"Nothing. Just happy to see you again."

"Heh~ you're such a kid."

"With you, I'll always be one."

"Come on, I'm not that old."

"Then we're the same age."

"Ugh, you should've just said nothing."

"Haha~"

"So what brings you here? Visiting Frieren?"

"Something like that. I came to take her out."

"Take her out?" Flamme raised an eyebrow.

"You can bring people with you now?"

"Yep."

"That's great. Frieren's been cooped up here forever. A little travel could be good for her."

"You sure you don't wanna see other worlds, Master?"

"Me? Nah, I haven't even finished exploring this one."

"Maybe someday?"

"If the chance comes, I'll go."

"I'll wait for that day."

"Heh~"

Flamme grinned. "Alright, I'll let you two have your moment. I'm gonna cook."

"Ooh, finally get to try your food again."

"It's not as good as yours." She waved him off with a smile.

Once she was inside, Shichen walked up behind Frieren and scooped her into his arms.

"What the hell are you doing?" she muttered, still not opening her eyes.

"Why are you just sitting there like a statue?" He plopped down cross-legged, setting her on his lap.

"You seemed to be having a good time talking to Master."

"Yeah, it's been a while."

"Hmph. Wonder what she'd think if she knew what you did with Serie." Frieren cracked open her eyes.

"Oh? What exactly did I do with her?" He leaned in, whispering next to her cheek.

"You know what." She flinched a little.

"Wanna experience it yourself?"

"No."

"Too bad."

"Stop that!"

She tried wriggling free but didn't stand a chance. Shichen easily held her in place.

Eventually, she gave up. He hadn't smacked her or anything, so she let it go.

"So... you're taking me somewhere?"

"Yup." He hugged her tighter, nuzzling her soft silver hair.

"Can I refuse?"

"Why would you?"

"I'm comfy here. Don't feel like moving."

"But if you come with me, I'll cook for you every day~"

"…Go on."

"And you'll get to learn tons of magic that doesn't exist in this world."

"…Alright, fine. I guess some fresh air wouldn't hurt."

"Heh~ Magic's your weakness, huh?"

"No. I just didn't want you to look all sad and pathetic."

"Aww, Frieren's so sweet to me." He rubbed his cheek against her head.

"That tickles…"

"Haven't seen you in so long. Let me hold you a little longer."

"It's only been like... three months."

"You remembered?"

"Master told me."

"Oh? Should I go double-check with her?"

"Don't you—! Ugh, you're joking again."

"Haha~"

"You always mess with me..." she muttered.

"You're just too fun to mess with."

"Wait... if I go with you, that means I'm just gonna get bullied every day, right?"

"What? Of course not."

"And no blood-sucking either?"

"Nope."

"…Spanking?"

"…That depends on how you behave."

"Ugh... Maybe I shouldn't go after all."

"But think of all the cool things you'll see~ all the magic you'll learn~"

"…Fine. Just... go easy on the spanking, okay?"
