c107: Pokémon Army
Meanwhile...
As the screen in front of Chen Xiaoxiao flashed several times, she and Gardevoir once again arrived at Ampharos's residence deep within the Electric Forest.
This time, however, the clearing felt eerily empty. The two Ampharos were gone. Only a handful of Mareep and Flaaffy remained, grazing or resting near the moss-covered rocks crackling with static.
Upon detecting movement, the Mareep and Flaaffy perked up warily. But the tension eased when they recognized the visitor.
They trotted over excitedly toward Chen Xiaoxiao, tails swaying and fur crackling with residual charge.
Chen Xiaoxiao knelt down and took out several Electric Energy Cubes she had synthesized earlier through the system specifically formulated to replenish stamina in Electric-type Pokémon. She distributed them among the Mareep and Flaaffy, who bleated happily as they devoured the cubes.
"Where did your parents go?" Chen Xiaoxiao asked calmly.
"(They were summoned... by our king!)" one of the Flaaffy replied telepathically.
Chen Xiaoxiao's expression turned serious.
There was only one Pokémon in the Electric Forest powerful and revered enough to be called "King" by wild Electric-types Zapdos, the Legendary Bird of Thunder.
"Do you know why Zapdos summoned them?" she asked.
"(We overheard our parents say… someone from the '530' took something important from the King.)" Flaaffy responded, its ears drooping slightly.
"530?" Chen Xiaoxiao frowned. That code referred to the student unit exploring section 530 of the Electric Forest. "What exactly was taken?"
Flaaffy shook its head. "(We don't know. The King didn't tell us what it was.)"
Something important enough to mobilize a Legendary Pokémon? That didn't bode well. Worse yet, it tied into what Professor Leng Xin had warned her about earlier: If a beast appears, report immediately.
Chen Xiaoxiao opened her Pokédex and initiated a direct call.
"Uncle Leng, I think I've found the cause. Zapdos believes something was stolen from it. Possibly by students from the 530 area. I'm still investigating what exactly it was."
"Is that so?" Leng Xin's calm voice came through the speaker. "Do you think you can resolve this without escalation?"
Chen Xiaoxiao blinked.
Resolve it? Resolve Zapdos?
A Divine Beast that had likely lived for centuries? That's not a "conflict" you just resolve with words or brute force. This wasn't a Gym battle it was on the level of survival.
Besides, didn't Leng Xin's Ice Pokémon handle Zapdos during the regional League Summit like it was nothing?
And wouldn't it make far more sense to send in Elite Ground-type Trainers instead of leaving her with a Gardevoir and a headache?
"…I'll do my best," she answered after a pause.
"There's been trouble on our end too. We're pinned down by disturbances in Beihu Province. Several trainers from nearby provinces are en route to assist. If you think it's out of control, contact me immediately. I can arrive in approximately twenty minutes. Use that window wisely."
Leng Xin's voice was firm. Then the line cut off.
Chen Xiaoxiao sighed. Things were spinning out of control.
Suddenly, the ground began to tremble slightly subtle, but unmistakable.
"What is that, Gardevoir?" she asked sharply.
"(Xiaoxiao... wild Pokémon from across Yujing are converging on the Electric Forest!)" Gardevoir's psychic voice rang in her mind, laced with alarm.
Before Chen Xiaoxiao could respond, a second telepathic voice cut in.
"(Xiaoxiao, a Divine Beast is approaching.)"
That voice belonged to Solgaleo her second partner and Mythical-class Pokémon, currently stationed in the outer atmosphere as a mobile surveillance node.
Her heart sank.
"(Also, I've detected large groups of humans forming clusters nearby.)" Solgaleo added, its perception cutting through miles like sunlight through fog.
"Come out, Solgaleo."
Without hesitation, Chen Xiaoxiao released Solgaleo. Its radiant body shimmered as it materialized beside them with a majestic roar. The pressure it released was enough to temporarily halt the ambient static in the air.
Solgaleo and Gardevoir had both reached Champion-tier. But Solgaleo, as a Legendary Pokémon, possessed perception and durability far beyond standard metrics. Its presence was invaluable now.
"Take me there, Solgaleo."
Chen Xiaoxiao climbed onto Solgaleo's back, holding Gardevoir tightly. In an instant, they Teleported again light bending around them.
---
The scene shifted.
They arrived at a hidden glade far from the Ampharos den where the group of abducted students and trainers had been brought earlier by the rampaging Electric-types.
Chen Xiaoxiao quickly scanned the scene.
There were over a dozen students and several field trainers. No Pokémon stood guard nearby.
It was both a relief and a red flag.
No guards meant the Pokémon had moved on most likely toward the core of the Electric Forest… or worse, they'd joined Zapdos's march.
The group spotted Chen Xiaoxiao and erupted into cries for help.
"Gardevoir," Chen Xiaoxiao said telepathically, "Scan them for deception."
Gardevoir's eyes pulsed with blue light as she activated Extrasensory and Aura Read simultaneously.
"Silence!"
A surge of Psychic energy radiated from Chen Xiaoxiao. Blue light flashed in her eyes as she exerted pressure through Psychic Terrain.
The terrified students and trainers felt their limbs stiffen, as if the air itself had become a heavy blanket. Their voices died out in their throats.
"Answer me honestly: Did any of you take something from the Electric Forest that you shouldn't have?"
Despite being immobilized, the group collectively denied it. Their voices were panicked, but sincere.
Chen Xiaoxiao looked at Gardevoir.
"(They're not lying.)" she confirmed.
"Solgaleo, take them."
At her order, Solgaleo's eyes gleamed. With practiced precision, it used Confusion to levitate the entire group around itself, forming a protective psychic barrier.
The captives screamed, startled by the sudden movement.
Chen Xiaoxiao scowled.
She didn't have time for hysterics not when Zapdos and potentially thousands of Electric-types were converging on this very spot.
Her Psychic aura exploded again, heavier than before.
"If you can't stay calm, I'll leave you here."
The weight of her presence fell like a thunderclap. Their fear overwhelmed their panic. They went silent immediately.
"Solgaleo, move."
Because of the number of passengers and the need to avoid ambushes, Solgaleo executed multiple short-distance Teleports, carefully phasing between gaps in the electromagnetic terrain.
After a final burst of light, they arrived at a wide clearing just outside the Electric Forest's perimeter.
Hall Master Lei and his supporting trainers saw Chen Xiaoxiao appear in a flash with the missing students and were immediately relieved.
The students, recognizing familiar faces friends, teachers, classmates began weeping openly. It felt like waking up from a nightmare.
Chen Xiaoxiao scanned the crowd. She spotted dozens of trainers over age twenty clearly reinforcements from surrounding districts, armed with Ground-type or Steel-type Pokémon for containment efforts.
She stepped forward and found Hall Master Lei among the group.
"Master Lei, we've got a serious problem."
She didn't mince words.
"Zapdos is heading this way leading an entire army of Electric-type Pokémon. Based on Gardevoir and Solgaleo's data, it'll arrive in about ten minutes. And it's absorbing more wild Pokémon as it moves. The army's size could double by the time it reaches us."
"What!?"
Hall Master Lei's voice thundered in shock. The surrounding teachers and senior trainers tensed, exchanging urgent glances.
The forest shook faintly again.
A storm was coming. Not of rain but of thunder, wings, and fury.
