c58: News of the Divine Beast
In an office at the Flying Gymnasium in Shantou City, Chen Xiaoxiao and Xu Fei sat across from one another.
"Xiao Xuzi, now you can tell me the information you mentioned."
Chen Xiaoxiao looked at him expectantly. After all, any news related to a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon how could she not want to investigate? Even if she couldn't catch it, just meeting such a divine beast was a priceless opportunity!
"Little Xu?"
Hearing the nickname "Xiao Xuzi," Xu Fei's expression turned a little awkward.
"Even if I'm not strong enough, I can accept that… But why the nickname?" he muttered inwardly.
Still, when faced with a cute and strong girl like Chen Xiaoxiao, most guys would naturally be more tolerant. Society, after all, tends to judge by appearances even if they shouldn't.
"I had Entei sense something unusual while traveling through Treasure Island about half a year ago," Xu Fei finally said after organizing his thoughts. "I didn't see the Pokémon myself, and Entei wasn't sure exactly which Legendary it was."
He shook his head slightly.
"I couldn't identify its strength or exact species, but Entei confirmed that the Pokémon carried a strong Psychic-type aura. I tried to look for it afterward, but found nothing."
"Treasure Island?" Chen Xiaoxiao echoed.
It made sense Legendary Pokémon often shared an unseen link with each other. That said, not all Legendaries knew of one another. Unless they were ancient or connected through myths like the Tower duo or the Weather trio, even beasts like Entei might not recognize another divine being—especially if it was newly awakened.
Humans, ironically, often had better documentation of Legendary Pokémon through archives and the internet.
Entei's inability to identify it meant this Psychic-type beast might not have been born long ago or was well-concealed. As for Xu Fei's failure to track it down, that was also expected. Even among ordinary Psychic-types, those with powerful auras were notoriously elusive. For a Legendary-class Psychic Pokémon, trying to locate one without a beacon was nearly impossible.
"So you're saying you couldn't confirm whether it was passing through or had taken up residence?" Chen Xiaoxiao asked after some thought.
"Yeah… sorry. No way to tell," Xu Fei admitted, rubbing his neck with an awkward smile.
Still, Chen Xiaoxiao didn't seem disappointed. She had been in this world for over ten years now, and even her own Solgaleo an actual Legendary had never sensed other mythic beasts nearby.
Xu Fei's ability to provide even a general area was already more than enough.
"Would you like me to help guide you? I can't promise we'll find it, but I believe someone like you who specializes in Psychic-types and even partners with Solgaleo might pick up on something I missed. Whether you can persuade the beast to follow you… that's something only your strength and bond can determine."
Xu Fei felt a little guilty. After all, Chen Xiaoxiao had helped him battle and even pushed his Entei into a breakthrough. Now he was just handing over vague information. Offering to guide her was the least he could do.
And through Entei, he had also learned that Chen Xiaoxiao's Solgaleo wasn't just strong it was indeed a real Legendary Pokémon.
But why was Xu Fei so serious about what started as a friendly battle? Because in that battle, he saw the truth behind Chen Xiaoxiao's strength and her heart.
"No need," Chen Xiaoxiao replied after a pause. "But… would it be alright to bring Entei out? I'd like to ask a few detailed questions."
Though she didn't expect much after all, the sighting might've been brief or even a fluke any extra details could be valuable.
"Sure. Entei, come out!" Xu Fei answered decisively, calling out Entei's Poké Ball.
Entei had already been restored to full health thanks to the Gym's high-grade healing system.
Chen Xiaoxiao stepped forward and asked a series of precise questions location specifics, the aura's behavior, time of day, and more. Entei, proud but cooperative, shared everything it could remember without hesitation.
"Thanks, Entei. Xu Fei, could you send me the coordinates where you first sensed it?"
Chen Xiaoxiao thanked the noble beast and then turned to Xu Fei.
"Of course! Let's add each other as friends—I'll send you the data directly. If you ever need help again, feel free to reach out."
Xu Fei smiled, pulling up his Pokédex and opening a friend request tab.
He was a little disappointed she didn't need a guide, but didn't push the matter.
"Okay."
After adding each other as friends through their Pokédexes, Xu Fei sent Chen Xiaoxiao a map clearly marked with the coordinates where Entei had sensed the strange Psychic presence on Treasure Island.
After chatting for a bit longer, the two exited the office together.
They briefly greeted Mr. Zhang and the head referee, Zhang Guoxiong, at the gym entrance. After exchanging polite goodbyes, Chen Xiaoxiao left on her own.
The two veterans—one a gym leader, the other a senior referee didn't ask about the details of the conversation. They had long since learned that when Trainers discuss topics beyond the battlefield especially when Legendary Pokémon are involved—it's best not to probe. Everyone in the league circuit knows what not to ask.
But after Chen Xiaoxiao disappeared into the streets of Shantou City, Zhang Guoxiong's expression darkened. With a slight frown, he wordlessly pulled Xu Fei by the arm and dragged him back into the Gym's battle arena.
As for what exactly he planned to discuss or scold about only the two of them would know.
After leaving the Flying Gymnasium, Chen Xiaoxiao made her way to a nearby hotel. She casually booked a standard room under an alias. Once inside, she hung the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, locked it securely, and entered her Pokémon Space through the portal installed inside the hotel room's mirror—something only those with advanced Psychic abilities and bonded Legendary Pokémon could access.
...…
Inside the serene villa located within the pocket dimension of her Pokémon Space, Chen Xiaoxiao sat on a modern couch and pulled out her Pokédex to begin investigating Treasure Island in detail.
Wanwan, also known locally as Baodao, is located in the southeastern maritime region of Huaxia. It's a provincial island territory governed by the Huaxia League. Due to its geography, the region is abundant in marine resources, and the number of Water-type specialists exceeds that of most other areas.
The Beitai Gym, the official league gym of the provincial capital, is indeed a Water-type facility. Its Gym Leader, according to public records, is part of a notable Trainer lineage.
"Huh? The most powerful family in Baodao is surnamed Chang? And the current Beitai Water Gym Leader is a direct descendant of the Chang family?" Chen Xiaoxiao narrowed her eyes with interest. "That's fascinating… Even in a world with a different social structure and history, some surnames end up carrying weight in similar ways."
Digging deeper through the Prosecutor's Internal Network, a confidential system only accessible to members of the International Trainer Oversight Bureau, she retrieved historical and political data about the Chang family. The resemblance in influence to the historical Jiang family of her past life made her chuckle—especially remembering how a university historian once claimed the two names were connected by translation errors.
"There's no mention of any Legendary Pokémon sightings on Baodao—nothing online, and nothing in the league's classified data either."
Chen Xiaoxiao frowned as she checked various official records and trainer blogs, all of which came up empty. Not even local ghost stories or unverified urban legends hinted at a Psychic-type Legendary on the island.
"So… was what Xu Fei and Entei sensed merely a divine beast passing through?"
She leaned forward, fingers steepled, then tapped back into the details she'd recorded.
"According to Xu Fei, Entei had felt a sudden, eerie sensation of being watched during routine training. The moment it focused on that direction, the presence vanished. Only faint Psychic-type residual energy remained detected in the general vicinity from which the presence disappeared."
She placed the Pokédex on the coffee table and leaned back against the plush sofa.
"So… Did it conceal its presence deliberately? Did it leave after being noticed? Or was it frightened away?"
Chen Xiaoxiao closed her eyes briefly, playing out the possibilities like scenarios in a simulation:
If it concealed its presence, then it must have been stronger than Entei to remain undetectable for that long.
If it merely left, it may have been attempting to avoid attention, suggesting it either lacked confidence or simply had no interest in conflict.
If it fled, that could mean it was not fully awakened, or perhaps even wounded or unstable.
"There's another possibility…" she mused aloud. "If divine beasts resonate with each other naturally, perhaps this one simply approached out of curiosity drawn to Entei's aura and left the moment it realized it had been discovered?"
Theories spun through her mind, each plausible but unproven.
"Whatever," she said, shaking her head with a smile. "It's not like I have any major plans in the next few days."
She sat up straight, eyes shining with a firm glint of decision.
"Alright! I've made up my mind—I'm heading to Baodao. Let's see if fate has arranged a divine encounter."
