Chapter 25 - chapter 25

A week had passed since the Dotmons visit to house Somerset, it was currently midnight and Josh lay in his bed restless. He was currently recalling the events that transpired on that day, after finding out that Shaun was the one who was gazing at him back at the restaurant he was somewhat furious but after he heard Shaun's explanation he understood the other man's reasoning.

But what had shocked him was the discovery of such an incredible item Shaun had in his possession, an angel's eye. Were such things real? He had never been one to have faith and now he had to accept that such things existed? Maybe they were entirely different from their scripture counterparts.

[Just what did I get myself into?] He thought with a half hearted smile, on that day Shaun had revealed important information concerning Davin. He said they were two souls in the man's body and both the souls were intertwined perfectly with one another, it was hard for him to notice the difference.

"But the one of the souls was also pretty sinister and cold and when i gazed , it looked back." These were Shaun's words, shocked by the eerie revaluation Josh had left Shaun saying he needed to go clear his head.

[I should probably tell Sy.] He got up and walked to where Simon's was sleeping, Simon's eyes shot open just before he could touch him

A questioning look on the confused Simon but Josh did not say a word and gestured for him to follow, he could not reveal anything in such a crowded room. Simon followed him outside and they went to the barn which was closer to the servants quarters.

"What is it?" Simon asked once inside the barn, Josh began to explain everything he had learned to Simon and Simon did not interrupt him even once up until he was finished.

"Oh I see that explains many things actually, I had suspected his eldest son Arthur so I had sent out some of my people to go monitor but the boy is surprisingly clean and gay." Simon spoke with a pause

" I think I know what we are dealing with. A split soul, they are pretty rare and most of the time they fall to madness pretty quickly because of the internal strife each fighting for the possession of the body but it seems Mr Dotmon has had it under control a notable feat."Simon added

[I need two beers.] He thought, "So how do we stop it?" Josh asked tiredly, Simon grinned

"Ahhh for a royal strategic asset you are pretty dense at times you know that?" Simon playfully jabbed at him

"Hey pal, it's former royal strategic asset. Plus I was never an asset of the bizarre." Josh defended himself which earned him a light chuckle from his friend

"Yeah right, anyways to defeat it we have to cause an internal strife with Davin and his counterpart." Simon explained,

"And how do we do that?" He asked , Simon was silent for a moment as he pondered

"Well we have both seen the type of men he is on a daily basis, so what we need to do is make him more confident. You know make him feel like the boss." Simon suggested in a doubtful voice

Josh shook his head at his suggestion, "That won't work, the man is dull Sy we need something that will cause the counterpart to go mad. The counterpart is clearly very smart so I suggest we play mindgames with it, let it know that we know it's secret and watch it go mad as it tries to find out who the traitors are. Of course our group will be his first suspects but not for long." Josh suggested his hand on his chin, Simon nodded with a smile

"Ahh Royal strategic asset indeed." He chuckled, earning himself a lazy glare

"Former." Josh said with a sigh, with that they began planning.

.....

At Salim gold mine, a mine owned by house Manchester. Piet hacked at the rocks with his pickaxe, the sound echoing off the damp walls of the mine. Beside him, sergio worked with a gentler touch, his long hair tied back in a ponytail. The air was thick with dust and the smell of earth.

"You're sure?" Piet whispered, his voice barely audible over the sound of pickaxes striking stone.

Sergio nodded, his eyes darting around the tunnel. "I've seen it myself. The strength of the Blighted that are spawning now has increased tremendously."

Piet's scar twisted as he frowned. "What is her majesty saying?."

Sergip's gaze locked onto piet's, his features pale in the dim light. "She said we need to hurry up and acquire the arc angel's feather."

Piet nodded, his expression grim. "We have to talk to the new head of house Manchester and tell her we are ready to extractthe feather..."

Sergio's smile was fleeting, "Yeah I guess we have to, cover for me." Sergio instructed before vanishing under a cloud of smoke.

"Alrigt." Piet's words fell on to the hard ground and he continued hiking at the rocks

....

A storm was brewing in Denil and Josh was in the thick of it all, being pursued by forces he could not understand and having to evade the queen's distant gaze while trying to uncover the truth about his gift and the role he would play in a world he was currently rediscovering.

He came to this city in order to flee his pursuers but now he was also involved in another skirmish, at times he would curse his inability to ignore things that don't concern. Whenever he was faced with a foe he could not understand he would not rest until he was better than his foe. But now his foe were no longer just humans, but something more.

Could he still be labeled human himself? That, he did not know but hey atleast he could still enjoy beer. Although what worried him the most was going to sleep at night without knowing whether or not he would be transported to that place again, at times he would shudder from just thinking about the place, about what he saw beneath the dark waters.

[What are these Blighted, what is their origin? Motive? It cannot just be hunger, creatures of that caliber can not be driven by pure hunger.] Josh thought as he recalled the massacre that got him to wherehe was today, he was sure those creatures were also the Blighted.

[Oh well nothing a bottle of beer can't solve. ] Josh thought, currently he was busy training with Gado. In order to not appear weak he had decoded to reveal just a tiny bit of skill so that Gado can think he is improving

"We will stop here for today." With that the man left, after a month of staying at the Dotmons he had noticed something about Gado. It seems as though the man and lady of the house had an affai, and with his arrival it appears although the lady of the house had left Gado that is why the man was so spiteful

[All of that attitude just for a piece of crazy cake?] Josh chuckled and ran to go clean himself before heading to start his duty for the day.
