There was no light.
No darkness either.
Just a void that knew them.
Elara floated weightless in the fold, suspended in what felt like the belly of a collapsed star. Her body, or whatever semblance of it remained, tingled with static. Memories rushed past her like comets fragments of other versions of herself, blinking in and out of existence.
A version of her as a soldier, dying in battle.
Another as a mother, watching a world burn.
One… as Seraph itself.
She gasped, struggling to breathe but lungs didn't exist here. Breath was intent, and reality obeyed only the strongest will.
"Elara!" Aeron's voice cut through the fold, sharp like a wire through skin.
She twisted, pushing against the surreal current. There his form was beginning to stabilize. His eyes flickered with timelines but locked on her like a lifeline.
"I see you," he said.
"I see you too," she whispered.
And suddenly, they were pulled.
