Chapter 3 - Runaway Bride

At the church, her foot!

Zayne Mancini was dreaming if he thought that wedding was ever happening.

Evelyn paced back and forth in front of the airport.

The way Preston and Brandon had looked at her… As much as she'd hate to admit it, these two might just assassinate her. It's not like they've ever liked her. They've always thought of her as less, and that didn't seem to have changed.

Before she even went for the will reading, she'd scheduled a flight back to France as she had no intention to spend another day with them. Leaving for another country for now was probably the best decision.

When things died down with Preston and Brandon, maybe then she'll figure out what to do with TDG.

As for that man, Zayne Mancini, he was not of her concern. She had nothing to do with him.

[Evelyn?" her best friend Amber answered her call. "How did it go? Did you inherit anything at all?]

"Amber, I think my father is haunting me."

[Haunting…you? What do you mean?]

"He set me up," Evelyn ground out. "He didn't just torment me when he was alive, but now he's tormenting me as well in his death."

[Wait, wait, what do you mean he set you up?]

She began heading further into the airport building, dragging her small suitcase along.

"Amber, I didn't just inherit anything. This old man gave his entire empire to me! The entire corporation."

Silence dropped on the other side of the phone, and then Amber's scream erupted.

[Oh my goodness!! Oh my—wait, wait, you mean, TDG, as in one of the biggest corporations to exist right now?]

"Yeah?"

[So, how did your father set you up? You're about to be rich! Filthy rich!]

"I don't want the company."

[Huh? C-come again?]

"I don't want it. I know my father, he's doing this to create some rivalry between me and them. Amber, you know these people. Preston has always wanted this cooperation, he believes it's rightfully his. And Brandon wants a share in it. Do you not get it? Not only was it entirely given to me, but they are not getting even a single dime from this cooperation. I'm a little scared, you know. TDG can't be given to another, not even sold. The only way is if I'm dead and call me crazy, but…what if they assassinate me? I don't want to die. I'm too young."

Silence stretched before Amber sighed. [You do have a point…]

"He even got a legal document that stated if I sold the corporation, the shareholders could sue me. Sue me, Amber! And can you believe he betrothed me to a man I don't even know and have never met before?"

[Wait, what?]

"Yeah, some man named Zayne Mancini. I don't—"

[Hold on, Zayne M-mancini. You mean, thee Zayne Mancini?]

"Yeah, you know him?"

[Oh freak!" Amber shrieked. "How come you don't know about Zayne Mancini? The wealthiest man globally right now? And wait, you're betrothed to him? When is the wedding? Should I pack? I need to get new outfits—]

"Slow down!"

Evelyn's brows creased into a frown.

"That's not happening. We're not getting married! Have you forgotten I have a boyfriend?"

[Oh?] Amber's tone reeked of disappointment. [Does that man have a spell on you? A love spell? I mean, he's clearly leaching off of you because your father is Sage Darkwood and you know it]

"Stop saying that, Amber." Evelyn ran her fingers through the thick length of her brown hair and breathed out. "I'm not interested in marrying someone I don't know. Besides, he's not even my type. Too tall."

"You've got to be kidding me. Evelyn—"

"I've got to go. It's boarding time. I'll see you in a few hours."

She hung up and was just about to head to the gate when an announcement suddenly resounded throughout the entire building.

"There's a runaway bride amongst you and I'm looking for her."

Wait… That voice…

Zayne Mancini.

What in the world was he doing here? And who was he calling a runaway bride?

"Long brown hair, green eyes, average in height, and very beautiful. She's in a tailored light blue suit."

Evelyn lowered her gaze to the attire she had on and glanced at the ceiling. He could see her.

Crap!

She immediately quickened her step, dragging her suitcase along. She just needed to get on the plane and—

"If you see her, please do not let her board the plane just yet. Like I said, she's my runaway bride, and I'm here to get her."

"You've got to be kidding me!!"

Of course, the security stopped her at the gate.

"What are you doing? I have to get on the plane!"

"Ma'am, please just wait here for a few moments. We've got words that Mr. Mancini is heading over here now. We'll confirm and then you can—"

"I don't want him to find me, don't you get it?" she bit out. "Listen, I'm not his bride, okay? He's actually a bit cray-cray. This is all a misunderstanding, and I really need to leave. You have to let me—"

"What's all the fuss about, hm?" A figure loomed behind her, and she froze instantly.

His cologne wafted into her nose.

Dammit!

"Mr. Mancini." The security exposed his thirty two teeth, and it only further pissed her off.

Zayne's hand wrapped around her chin, tilting her head back against his chest so she could stare into the blue of his eyes.

"Now, where are you off to in such a hurry, wife?"

"I'm not your wife!" she smacked his hand off. "And why are you stalking me?"

Zayne looked away from her to the security guard. He half smiled, barely touching his eyes. "I'll be taking her home now. All this is because I didn't give her attention. She can be a bit dramatic sometimes."

"What the—you don't even know me!"

The security guard smiled awkwardly.

Before Evelyn could even protest, Zayne spun her around and lifted her by the waist, throwing her over his shoulder. He grabbed her suitcase with his other free hand and began to walk out of the building.

"Hey, what are you doing?"

"Taking you to the church. I told you I would see you at the church today."

"And I told you I'm not marrying you," she screamed into his ear, earning a grimace from him. "Put me down, right now, Mr. Mancini!"

"If I do, will you willingly come back with me?"

"You wish!" she snapped. "I'm not going to marry you, ever. I told you I have a boyfriend. Put me down."

"You're never going to shut up about this bodyfriend, will you?" There was amusement in his tone. "Fine, let's go see your boyfriend then."
