Chiyu had never underestimated the Sage of Six Paths.
In fact, in his mind, a fully‑powered Sage of Six Paths was far more terrifying than Ōtsutsuki Kaguya.
After all—
When Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo sealed his own mother, his strength was nowhere near its peak; he was still in his "growth" phase.
Even so, the technique known as "Six Paths: Planetary Devastation" did not appear out of thin air—it could only have been a countermeasure Hagoromo devised in the very midst of battle with Kaguya.
Such talent can only be described as invincible.
And after sealing Kaguya, Hagoromo imprisoned the Ten‑Tails within himself, becoming its jinchūriki. Only then did his power reach its absolute summit.
To imagine someone who was already that strong—and then received the Ten‑Tails' boost—was almost impossible.
What's more…
Although Kaguya was incomparably powerful, her combat experience and fighting spirit were almost negligible; she was merely an innocent powerhouse overflowing with chakra.
Hagoromo was different. He could train in native Senjutsu with Gamamaru and—while locked in life‑and‑death struggle against his mother—constantly create new counterstrategies on the fly.
Talent, experience, willpower, creativity—he was flawless in every respect. To Chiyu, such a being was far more fearsome than Kaguya.
Of course, Chiyu felt no fear.
No one in existence had the right to make him afraid.
…
Chiyu understood Hagoromo's ideals.
It was much like people in his previous life who despised high‑tech modern living, romanticizing the "idyllic" primitive era—never realizing that progress and change are not the enemies of peace, and that primitive society was hardly a paradise: ignorance, brutality, animalistic slaughter, endless conflict and war.
Strip humanity of "ninjutsu" or "technology" and you merely serve other species as prey.
In truth, Hagoromo never knew the Ōtsutsuki clan's real story.
Black Zetsu knew, because he was Kaguya's own will.
Hagoromo and his brother Hamura, however, never learned their mother's origin, her plight, or her enemies.
They only saw Kaguya casting Infinite Tsukuyomi, birthing a White Zetsu army through human sacrifice, and draining Earth's natural energy, ravaging its ecosystem.
Thus, Hagoromo reached a foolish conclusion:
"Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo, do you think wiping out shinobi and ninjutsu will bring peace to this world?"
"That's not merely naïve—it's downright stupid!"
"Your so‑called path will only turn the world into a hunter's feeding ground and lead to total annihilation!"
Hagoromo replied, "And where are these 'hunters' you speak of? For countless years I have seen only humans slaughtering one another. Where is this foreign threat?"
Chiyu inhaled deeply, too weary to keep arguing with a fool.
"Obstinate."
"In that case—I'll just kill you."
At that instant every ninja present felt their hearts pound: two supreme rulers of the shinobi world were about to clash!
Chiyu wasted no time. His Nine‑Tomoe Rinnegan— the pinnacle of ocular power—flared open.
Takamagahara—Divine Kingdom Domain!
A radius of ten kilometers was instantly engulfed, and the airborne Hagoromo was caught within it.
Then—
"Soul Annihilation!"
Chiyu knew Hagoromo's body had long perished; what remained was soul and chakra.
This technique could truly kill even Kaguya—so Hagoromo should be no exception.
In the next heartbeat—
Hagoromo's soul, swallowed by the domain's raging eye power, disintegrated into nothingness.
Everyone was dumbstruck.
Had the legendary Sage of Six Paths been one‑shotted?
Yet Chiyu frowned.
"As I thought. During my battle with Kaguya in the Pure Land, you saw me—and I saw you…
I fashioned this Soul Annihilation to kill Kaguya, so you created new power to counter it, didn't you?"
Before his words had faded, Hagoromo's form re‑materialized.
Kakashi gasped.
"That technique eradicates the soul itself! Even the Sage shouldn't exist after that… What power is this?!"
Hagoromo nodded.
"Indeed, I witnessed your clash with Mother and was astonished by your soul‑erasing power. But I have not been idle these thousand years in the Pure Land."
Chiyu's eyes narrowed. In the original history, Hagoromo's body was gone but his soul persisted, strong enough to grant Naruto and Sasuke Six Paths power, summon past Kage without living sacrifices, and more.
And now even his Soul Annihilation could not finish Hagoromo.
A single truth became clear:
"So it's true…
Hagoromo, over these millennia you have come to rule the entire Pure Land.
You should no longer be called 'Ruler of the Shinobi World'—
You are Lord of the Pure Land."
Shock rippled through the audience.
"Lord of the Pure Land…
Does that mean he controls every soul of the dead?!"
Hagoromo gave a calm nod.
"In mastering the Pure Land's secrets, I command the strength of countless spirits and deities. Unless every soul there is erased, you cannot kill me."
Terror spread—how could one slay such an enemy?
Chiyu, however, smiled.
"Good. Now things are interesting."
Hagoromo frowned.
"So confident, Uchiha Chiyu? Perhaps you still don't comprehend my power. I can summon every soul from the Pure Land into the living world! Do you grasp that number?"
Chiyu understood well: the dead always outnumber the living—and among them lie endless ancient powerhouses, enough to obliterate all life. Yet he felt no fear.
"You think an army of corpses can oppose me? Ridiculous."
Hagoromo spoke no further.
Netherworld Rebirth!
An unknown art predating modern nomenclature.
In an instant, countless spirits appeared in the sky—densely packed, blotting out the sun.
Among them: Hamura, Asura, Indra, every reincarnation of those two lineages—Hashirama, Madara—past legends beyond counting, and even those Chiyu himself had slain: Hiruzen, Danzo, Koharu, Homura, Shisui, Itachi, Obito, Tobirama, Izuna, the previous Five Kage…
The audience was stupefied. It was like gazing into hell.
Some spirits jeered.
"Uchiha Chiyu, so what if you're strong? We follow the true Sage now! Try cutting down the entire Pure Land!"
The speaker was Hiruzen Sarutobi, flanked by the entire Sarutobi clan.
Chiyu answered coolly, "Like I wiped out the Sarutobi clan before?"
Hiruzen flew into a rage, but Chiyu's Divine Kingdom expanded again.
Hagoromo tried to pull the spirits back—but Chiyu was swifter.
One after another, the Sarutobi souls were utterly erased—gone forever.
"Hiruzen, since you barked the loudest, I'll erase your clan from existence. Let's see if you can still yap."
Hiruzen turned to see… nothing. His clan was gone, souls and all. He quivered in horror.
"What have you done, Chiyu…?"
Hagoromo scowled. "I knew you were extreme, but I underestimated your ruthlessness."
Chiyu sneered.
"And you have the right to lecture me? You're the one forcing the dead to fight."
"They follow me willingly," Hagoromo replied.
"Really? Even the children?"
"They too yearn for the perfect new world I shall create."
"You've lived a thousand years—and you're insane."
"Very well: die!"
Chiyu soared into the heavens. With true Six Paths power, flight was trivial.
His Divine Kingdom widened—ten kilometers of sky consumed. Hagoromo's soul was shattered again, and swathes of spirits were mown down like grass—countless souls annihilated forever.
Moments later Hagoromo re‑formed, brandishing his Six Paths Shakujo and the black double‑helix sword…
The Sword of Nunoboko!
Holding staff and blade, he slashed at Chiyu.
Chiyu snapped his fingers. "Spatial Erasure!"
The staff and sword fractured and vanished—yet Hagoromo simply re‑created them with Yin‑Yang Release. The Sword of Nunoboko, a "blade of the heart," exists so long as its wielder's will endures.
With a thrust of the resurrected sword, Hagoromo attacked again. Chiyu countered with Soul Annihilation—and observed Hagoromo's consciousness jump into another soul, possessing it.
So he wasn't reviving; he was body‑hopping through the Pure Land's dead—an endless Orochimaru‑style possession on a cosmic scale.
"Hagoromo, so lofty in speech, yet you're merely stealing others' souls. And you call me ruthless?"
Hagoromo answered with a hand‑seal.
"Six Paths Sage Art: Yin Release Lightning Dispatch!"
Purple lightning flooded the sky, threatening to rip it apart. Without Chiyu's Divine Kingdom to shield the village, nothing would remain.
Chiyu twisted the domain's space, reversing the torrent; the violet bolts hammered Hagoromo's legion, shredding spirit after spirit. Souls re‑formed, weakened; Hagoromo himself paled.
Even commanding the Pure Land and an infinite army, he could not subdue one Uchiha Chiyu.
Just how powerful was this man?
