Chapter 39 - Chapter 38: A Shadow’s Scheme

The fortress of the Tailwind Pack lay in complete desolation as the moon illuminated its surroundings. Through dominance of the Alpha and strong pack members the Nightwind Pack transformed the once glorious city into a damaged and separated land. To Edmund Boris loss appeared as a fleeting temporary event instead of an undefeatable condition.

Edmund sat in his dark private space as his mind spun wildly while he circled the glass with one finger. He had clearly underestimated Jacob Barduff and his omega mate Luna Leah. After that mistake Edmund made sure to prevent any more incidents from happening.

Two figures stood opposite him; they were mercenaries, outlaws with no allegiance except to wealth. Edmund felt that the hunger in their eyes would be a good fit for his mission.

"You understand what must be done?" Edmund's voice was quiet, but it had a steely edge to it.

One of the mercenaries, a burly wolf with scars down his arms, nodded. The girl was shaken, even though she was saved. One can take advantage of that vulnerability.

Edmund bent over. "And the Luna?"

The second mercenary, a lithe, dark-haired woman, smirked. "She's proving more capable than expected, but that only means her fall will be more satisfying."

Edmund smiled slowly and deliberately. "All right. We'll wait. Make them feel as though they are secure. And when the time is appropriate, we will strike—but precisely, not with force."

The mercenaries understood their commands and nodded.

The night air was cool against Edmund's skin as he stood and turned to face the open window. "They believe they have triumphed. The game is far from finished, though.

He then silently raised his goblet in toast, to strategy, to revenge, and to the ultimate fall of Night wind pack.
