Chapter 16 - Chapter 15:Shadows of Deception

Samuel had found a note that disturbed Leah. They still had someone working against them, still plotting in the shadows.

Jacob stood by the fireplace, the flickering flames profoundly lining his face. "We need to find the culprit behind this. Gwen's influence lasts even after she is locked up. We must eliminate everyone else who may be involved.

Samuel folded his arms and nodded. "I'll start questioning the castle staff. In the end, any traitor among us will be exiled from the pack.

Leah let out a slow breath. "How is Gwen doing? Even in jail, she poses a threat. We must figure out how to stop her before more harm is done if she is still giving orders.

Jacob's face became stern. "I'll speak with her. I must ascertain whether she is aware of the other parties involved.

Leah frowned and stepped forward. "By yourself? It's too dangerous. Permit me to accompany you.

He gave a headshake.

"No. Samuel and you concentrate on the castle. I'll take care of Gwen.

Leah wanted to disagree, but she could see that he was determined. This was something he had to do. All she could do was pray he was ready for whatever Gwen had in store for him next.

Leah turned to face Samuel as Jacob marched out of the room. "The servants' quarters should be where we begin. I'm going to find out who has been sending me messages."

Samuel grinned. "Then let's get to work."

A person waited and watched in the shadows outside the castle walls. It was far from the end of the game.
