Chapter 41 - Chapter 39: Bloodlines and Betrayals

After Dorian told the truth, there was a long, tense pause that was about to break. 

Aria stared at the spot where her childhood friend had gone missing. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. 

She said in a whisper, "This can't be happening." 

"It is happening," Magnus said with a grimace. "And it's about to get worse." 

As if his words had called for it, a bone-chilling howl rang out across the land. Then another. And another.

All of the wolves in the room stopped moving because they were scared of the noises. 

She breathed out "Shadow Mountain Pack," and her face turned pale. "They're here." 

Heavy footsteps thundered down the hallway. 

A guard rushed through the opening, his eyes wide with fear. "Alpha! The edges are surrounded. At least fifty dogs, maybe more. They're not striking, but they're not leaving either." 

"What do they want?" Caleb demanded. 

The guard swallowed hard. "They want to talk. Their Alpha is demanding a meeting. Now."
