...

"You should leave!" Caleb urged Cynthia, worry clear in his voice.

He needed to focus on the battle ahead and couldn't afford to be distracted by concern for her safety.

But Cynthia simply smiled and shook her head. She held up a Poké Ball, "I can help."

Caleb paused.

'Of course... Cynthia is strong. She isn't someone who needs protecting.'

Relieved, he nodded, "Together, then?"

"Let's go!" Cynthia nodded and tossed her Poké Ball into the air.

With a flash of white light, a Charizard appeared overhead, a red scarf tied neatly around its neck.

Caleb recognized it instantly; it was the little Charmander he had given her at that New Year's festival. Now, it has grown into a mighty Charizard under her care.

"Garchomp, Draco Meteor! Charizard, use Fire Spin to clear this frost!" Cynthia commanded coolly.

Caleb turned his full focus back to the battle. He released Mimikyu, Dragonite, Hydreigon, Celebi, Lucario, and the frozen Mew2.

Viridian aura instantly thawed Mew2.

"Together, everyone!" Caleb addressed his team.

"Kyu!"

"Bi!"

"Roooar!"

"…"

Lucario hopped onto Dragonite's back. Hydreigon beat its wings and surged upward through the freezing gale.

Mimikyu and Celebi spiraled through the air, aiming straight for Kyurem's head.

Mewt2 looked ashamed. It was about to silently join the fight when Caleb called out.

It turned, puzzled.

Caleb tossed over the Mewtwo Heart he'd obtained in the Collapsed World, shouting, "Take this!"

Mew2 caught it cleanly. The moment the heart touched its body, it fused seamlessly.

A strange power surged through Mew2 as it thought: 'I… I will… Fight for you!'

*Whoosh!*

Pale blue flames erupted around it.

Mew2 gave Caleb a firm nod, then shot skyward.

Mid-flight, brilliant white light enveloped it. Its form shifted rapidly within the glow.

Mew2 had Mega Evolved into Mega Mewtwo X!

Caleb used Viridian Power to link with all his Pokémon. As their Trainer, his only job now was to command the battle with his partners, as one!

Kyurem's furious roar shook the heavens...

...

At the city's edge, Caitlin, Officer Jenny, and others stared at the center in awe.

Crimson meteors rained from the sky.

Within the ruins, white mist boiled under roaring infernos.

Explosions and roars echoed endlessly.

The sun neared the horizon. Blood-red twilight glowed faintly in the distance.

This apocalyptic spectacle held every Trainer present in rapt attention.

"A battle of that level… it's terrifying." murmured a Trainer who'd come from Castelia to help.

"Mommy, our home is gone." a little girl whispered, gazing at the ruined city.

"They're protecting our home!" Officer Jenny declared. Thinking of that mysterious young man, she turned to Caitlin with solemn respect, "What's his name?"

Caitlin murmured, "Caleb."

Then, snapping back to herself, she raised her voice: "We must fight too! Everyone who can still battle, follow me! We're going to support them and protect our home!"

Wild Pokémon that had lived in the city and were now sheltered with humans understood her words.

Side by side with their human neighbors, they charged toward the heart of the battle.

...

Outside the crowd, a young man with pale green hair like a Gardevoir's watched silently. He wore a black cap.

He heard the Pokémon's voices:

>..Together with humans… protect our home!..<

>..Our shared home!..<

"A home for humans and Pokémon…" the youth murmured, staring at the Poké Ball in his hand.

As if responding to him, the ball trembled gently.

The young man took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, his gaze was resolute: "I understand now, Reshiram. I'll do it."

...

~City Center~

The battle showed no sign of slowing...

Amplified by its Frost Aura, Kyurem fought like a force of nature.

The air was so thick with cold, it felt like chilled aloe gel.

Caleb's face was nearly numb. Frost coated Cynthia's eyelashes.

In the sky, fighting in such extreme conditions drained the Pokémon rapidly.

After thirty minutes of relentless assault, Lucario, Mimikyu, and the others were panting heavily.

Even Kyurem, facing so many foes at once, was beginning to show strain.

During a brief lull, the two Mewtwos noticed their allies' exhaustion and telepathically urged: >..Leave the rest to us!..<

Caleb sensed his team's PP was nearly depleted, so he recalled them into their Poké Balls, saying, "Good job, everyone. Rest up."

Then he looked up at Kyurem...

After all that fighting and getting thoroughly ganged up on, Kyurem had finally cooled down.

Silent, it stared coldly at the humans below.

Through the Viridian Power, Caleb had long sensed Kyurem's rage and its thoughts:

It was angry about being woken from its slumber. Decided to freeze the whole world in revenge.

"Have you calmed down?" Caleb asked, communicating through the Viridian Power.

Kyurem didn't respond, it just seethed inwardly.

Caleb cut straight to the point, "The ones who disturbed you are already punished. Why hurt innocent humans and Pokémon?"

Kyurem finally spoke: >..I hate humans..<

Caleb countered sharply, "But your actions hurt countless Pokémon too. And these humans? They never harmed you."

Kyurem: "…"

Caleb sensed it was about to lash out again, so he added, "You can't beat us."

On cue, the two Mega Mewtwos landed firmly at his sides.

Kyurem felt cornered.

Caleb pressed, "Do you yield?"

Despite his question, Kyurem, a trio of dragons, was actually stronger than a single Mega Evolved Mewtwo. That's why it nearly one-shot Mew2 earlier.

If not for Caleb's remote healing via Viridian Power and 2 Mega Mewtwos, they'd have lost today.

Of course, victory also came from teamwork: Garchomp's Draco Meteor, Lucario's Aura Sphere, Charizard's Flamethrower, and more...

Kyurem understood the implication. It glared at Caleb and asked warily: >..Human… what do you want?..<
