The rain had stopped, but the streets were still wet.
Water ran into the gutters while carrying bits of paper and dirt.
The night smelled of smoke and damp concrete.
Daniel and Micheal walked side by side without speaking.
The glow from the streetlamps made long shadows to appear across the road.
After walking for a while, they turned down a narrow lane with their shoes clicking on the pavement.
"You didn't eat." Micheal said at last.
Daniel shook his head and said, "Couldn't."
They stopped in front of an old building with cracked walls and a steel door that looked like it hadn't been opened in years.
