Chapter 220: "Good Sisters"
Outside the cave, a group of powerful Netherkins appeared restless and uneasy.
Although the Netherqueen had entered the cave with the Holy Saint of the Demon Sect for less than half a cup of tea's time, it felt like half a century had passed for these Netherkins.
Each one of them was itching with curiosity, desperate to rush inside and see what was happening.
However, the barrier set up by the Netherqueen completely blocked any connection between the inside and outside.
Not even sound or aura could pass through.
For these Netherkins, who relied primarily on brute strength, the only way to find out what was going on inside would be to break through by force... but among them, only Elder Ape possessed Tribulation Crossing Realm cultivation.
Moreover, as the Netherqueen's subordinates, none of them dared attempt such a thing.
But the more they were left in the dark, the wilder their imaginations became.
"If Her Highness really harbors feelings for that Holy Saint, with them alone together in the cave... could it be that they've already started... you know?"
"D-Don't speak nonsense! Her Highness is supposed to lead us back to the Netherland today—how could she possibly be doing that right now?"
"I wouldn't say it's impossible... Though we're confident about returning to the Netherland this time, there's no guarantee of success. Plus, after today, who knows when Her Highness might meet the Holy Saint again. So maybe..."
The Netherkins' conversation abruptly halted.
The mountain peak where the cave was located suddenly began to tremble slightly.
"C-Could it have started already? Does Her Highness really make this much noise...?"
A particularly dazed-looking Netherkin was the first to speak, before gasping sharply:
"Hiss—They even have a kid coming out this fast?!"
This remark stunned the other Netherkins. They all turned toward the cave entrance.
To their astonishment, a white-haired little girl was standing there, staring back at them with a strange expression.
Without a word, she casually slapped her hand forward.
The Netherkin who had spoken first was instantly buried in the dirt, leaving only his head above the ground.
Yet, even with only his head exposed, his eyes were wide with shock.
"As expected of Her Highness's child— even the way she buried me is so si—guuhhh—"
This time, only half of his head remained visible.
"Heh."
There are so many weirdos among that silly fox's subordinates.
Just as this thought crossed Yue Xuanji's mind, her expression suddenly shifted.
With a slight step in midair, she instantly moved dozens of feet from where she had stood.
At the spot she had just vacated, a pink silk ribbon emerged from the void, radiating terrifying power.
However, after missing its target, the ribbon instantly dissipated.
In its place appeared another figure—
The Netherqueen.
With a flick of her wrist, she calmly said, "So close..."
She glanced toward Yue Xuanji.
"It's been a long time since we last crossed hands— You immature old hag. Do you still remember how you looked every time you fell into my hands?"
The white-haired loli's expression stiffened slightly at these words.
But soon, a grin returned to her face.
"Oh, silly fox, silly fox~ do you really think you can catch me like you used to? Let's not even talk about how much things have changed over the past three years—you're not even in the same condition as before..."
Yue Xuanji didn't finish her sentence, for the Netherqueen clearly understood what she meant.
The Netherqueen froze for a moment.
"…So I still can't hide it from you."
"Of course not. After all, how many years have we known each other? Even without the use of the [Art of Divination], I can still guess what a silly fox like you would be thinking."
The white-haired loli shook her head lightly.
"Seriously though, I don't get what's so great about him. His cultivation isn't that high, he's surrounded by women, and he's entangled in all sorts of karmic messes… Well, I suppose he is interesting, and then there's also those things—"
As she spoke, Yue Xuanji suddenly couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Ahem— Oh, it's nothing. Just thought of something amusing," the white-haired loli said, straightening her expression in response to the Netherqueen's question.
"As I thought, you and he have had quite a few interactions since that night..."
The Netherqueen's gaze darkened slightly. However, she switched to transmitting her voice directly:
"With your level of mastery in the [Art of Divination], I'm sure you've already seen much of the entanglements surrounding him. The incident at the inn yesterday... you were involved, weren't you? No—you orchestrated it, didn't you?"
Yue Xuanji only smiled, offering no reply.
"Forget it. I don't feel like guessing what you're thinking... but—"
A dangerous smile crept onto the Netherqueen's face.
"What you said just now doesn't quite match up with what you were doing inside earlier, does it?"
As her words fell, nine pink silk ribbons appeared behind her, radiating an overwhelming aura. The space around them groaned under the pressure, cracks of pitch-black darkness splitting the air.
"...Despite how you look, you are old enough to be the ancestor of his ancestor, shouldn't you show some sliver of that supposed maturity?"
Hearing this, Yue Xuanji's delicate face twitched slightly. Still, her smile remained.
"Ah, speaking of age... if I'm not mistaken, isn't a certain silly fox actually far older than that boy inside? And yet, at your age, you still harbor such feelings for a human youth—"
Before she could finish her sentence, two of the pink ribbons lashed out, forcing Yue Xuanji to dodge.
It couldn't be helped—she was, after all, the Tower Master of the Heavenly Divination Tower. Her strengths didn't lie in direct combat. Facing the Netherqueen, who not only had slightly higher cultivation but also possessed practical fighting techniques, she was bound to be at a disadvantage.
Fortunately, Yue Xuanji's teleportation techniques were superior—though casting them required time. Unfortunately, her "good sister" knew her methods all too well.
But that familiarity went both ways.
This time, the Netherqueen didn't withdraw her pink ribbons after missing her target. Instead, all nine shot into the void at once, twisting and weaving toward Yue Xuanji's position.
Her expression darkened.
"I'm nothing like you. You know well that my Netherkin race matures slowly. My bloodline is special—you know this."
"So basically, you've lived all these years only to become a silly fox who pretends to be mature!"
While Yue Xuanji weaved through the void, narrowly avoiding the entangling ribbons, she kept running her mouth.
"—At least I'm better than you! You're always pretending to be a young girl despite being the oldest!"
"Silly fox!"
"Immature old hag!"
If it weren't for the sheer destructive power behind every movement—enough to shatter mountains and rivers—it would have been hard to tell that this was a clash between two Tribulation Crossing Realm cultivators.
Thankfully, neither of them had lost their minds completely; they still remembered to block their conversation from the Netherkin below.
<+>
Just then, as Yue Xuanji continued dodging, her eyes gleamed with a sudden idea.
"Hmph! What Netherqueen? What Netherkin Nation Monarch? All that so-called maturity is just an act. In reality, you're nothing but a silly fox who doesn't even dare share a kiss with the one you like!"
Yao Ji flinched.
"W-Who said I wouldn't dare? If you hadn't shown up so suddenly, I would have already—"
"Oh? Already what? Are you saying you could've done something even more intimate than sharing a kiss?"
"O-Of course I could—! I—I mean—!"
The Netherqueen's momentary panic gave Yue Xuanji just enough time to slip away from the pink ribbons.
With a playful smirk on her face, Yue Xuanji's figure flickered and turned ethereal.
"Mhm~ 'Of course I could,' you say~"
She hadn't come unprepared to face her "good sister."
