Chapter 67 - Chapter 64

The break had ended.

But unlike the other matches that had come before, the audience wasn't simply waiting—they were leaning forward, breaths held, as if the air itself had been caught in suspension. The murmurs swelled, waves of excitement that rippled through the Great Hall until Kaizer himself stepped into the center of the arena with a grin so sharp it might have cut the silence apart.

"Now then…" his voice rang, smooth and commanding, the kind of voice that owned the space without effort. "You've all been waiting for this one, haven't you?"

The crowd's roar surged like fire fed with oil.

"This isn't just another duel. This—" Kaizer extended his arm with dramatic flair toward the west balcony where Reiyell sat, her-blue hair falling like spun frost over her shoulders, her bearing calm, noble, untouchable. "—is the clash of the two brightest stars of their years!"

Gasps, cheers, stomps of feet against stone filled the hall. Kaizer continued, voice rising.

"On one side! The unrivaled gem of Ravenscroft, the first-year who has yet to taste defeat, Reiyell Georgia Frey Ravenscroft!"

Reiyell rose slowly, elegantly, as though she had all the time in the world. Her every movement was measured, her presence composed—yet her indicolite-crystal eyes carried a frost that silenced the nearest chatter. As she stepped down the stairs toward the stage, a fine trail of frost shimmered in her wake, subtle, delicate, but undeniable proof of the power that thrummed in her veins.

The students whispered her name like it was both a prayer and a challenge.

And then Kaizer turned, arm sweeping in the opposite direction.

"And her opponent…" His grin widened. "The storm that commands the second years, a force recognized as one of their strongest contenders—Alaric Veynar!"

The hall thundered with applause as Alaric stood, tall and broad-shouldered, storm-grey eye flashing beneath heavy brows. Where Reiyell's presence was ice, sculpted and pristine, his was a tempest given human shape: restless, raw, dangerous. As he walked down, a faint draft rippled through the hall, pulling at banners, tugging at sleeves.

When both reached the arena floor, silence fell again—not because anyone told them to be quiet, but because something about the confrontation demanded it.

Reiyell faced him with serene poise, hands clasped lightly before her, as though this was merely another exercise.

Alaric tilted his head, smirking. "You've made a name for yourself, princess. Let's see if it holds when the storm breaks."

Kaizer's grin sharpened. He raised his hand like a conductor readying the orchestra. "No referee needed. I'll be your eyes, your words, your witness."

His hand dropped.

The duel began.

—

For a heartbeat, neither moved.

Then Alaric swept his arm and the air itself howled in response. Winds spiraled, banners snapped violently, and sparks crackled as lightning flickered faintly across the ceiling.

Reiyell's answer was wordless, elegant. She extended her palm and in an instant, a spear of crystalline ice formed—perfect, gleaming, flawless. She hurled it, and where it cut through the air, frost spread like veins.

Alaric's gale smashed it to shards mid-flight.

The sound—crashhh—was like storm meeting glacier.

The crowd leaned forward, breathless.

"They're testing each other," Kaizer narrated, voice smooth yet thrilled. "The storm's fury against the princess's frost… a dance of power just beginning!"

Reiyell didn't hesitate. Her other hand traced the air and from nothing, dozens of blades of ice bloomed around her, orbiting in silent formation. She flicked her wrist, and the blades screamed forward.

Alaric laughed, a sound that vibrated with storm-born confidence. With a sweep of both arms, the winds surged into a barrier, spiraling, shredding the icicles into glittering snow. Then lightning cracked, spearing through the air toward her.

Reiyell's reply was instantaneous. She raised her arm, and Glacial Armor bloomed across her body, a seamless shell of crystalline sheen that refracted the strike. The lightning glanced away, the ice untouched.

The hall gasped as she stepped through the fading sparks, unshaken.

Alaric's grin widened. "Not bad."

He stomped the ground—boom—and the winds howled upward, a tornado beginning to churn around him, tugging at stones, ripping fragments of frost from the arena floor.

Reiyell, calm as ever, raised her arms.

Cryomancy Mastery.

Ice flooded the floor, spreading outward in fractal precision, intricate patterns of frost weaving into the stone like runes. The cold sank into the bones of every spectator as the air misted, breath visible. The tornado clashed against the widening sheet of ice, wind screaming, snow scattering.

Kaizer's voice carried above the storm: "The battlefield itself bends to them! Ice against gale, storm against glacier—who will break first?"

—

For long moments, it was a spectacle of elemental force. Alaric hurled thunderbolts into her barriers, each strike shaking the arena. Reiyell answered with lances of ice, her precision impeccable, each shard meant for a vital point, each defense timed to perfection.

The audience couldn't blink. The stage was a shifting tableau—lightning cracking against crystal walls, gales tearing through spirals of frozen spears, snow and sparks mingling midair.

Then Alaric grew serious. His grin faded, replaced by a storm's grim intent.

"Enough playing."

The winds howled sharper, harsher, funneling into a vortex that sucked the very breath from the hall. Lightning coursed through the spiral, making it glow with deadly light. With a roar, he hurled it forward—an entire tempest condensed into a single strike.

The hall shook.

For the first time, Reiyell's ice cracked beneath the pressure. Her Glacial Armor splintered as she slid back, frost screeching against stone.

Gasps tore from the crowd.

"Alaric unleashes the storm in full!" Kaizer roared. "Can the princess hold against nature's fury itself?"

Reiyell's eyes narrowed. For a moment, frost dusted her lashes like falling snow. She exhaled.

And then she moved.

Raising both hands high, she brought them down in a sweeping motion.

Abyssal Freeze.

The temperature plummeted.

The roaring tempest slowed, winds crystallizing midair, lightning freezing into jagged veins of glowing ice. The tornado's howl choked into silence as the storm itself solidified, suspended in a sculpture of frozen fury.

The hall went silent.

The spectacle was breathtaking: a cyclone of lightning and wind, frozen into glittering stillness, shards of ice reflecting a thousand hues under the arena lights.

And at its heart stood Reiyell, untouched, serene, her violet eyes glinting with cold command.

With a flick of her wrist, the frozen tempest shattered into a rain of glittering shards.

CRASHHHH—

The sound reverberated like thunder, ice cascading in a dazzling display.

Alaric staggered back, breath caught in his throat, storm dissipating into nothingness. His eyes widened—shock, disbelief.

Reiyell lifted her chin slightly. Not a word spoken, yet her silence was heavier than any taunt.

Kaizer's voice broke the stunned hush.

"Unbelievable! The storm halted, the tempest frozen! Reiyell Ravenscroft claims victory!"

The hall erupted, screams, cheers, stomps of thunderous applause. Students shouted her name, others stared in awe.

From the stands, Keiya smirked faintly, arms crossed. "Typical."

Klyden, leaning lazily on the railing, grinned wide. "She makes it look too easy."

Liora's eyes shone with awe, hands clasped. "Beautiful…"

And Wads, lounging back with a smirk, muttered, "Wouldn't want to be on her bad side."

Reiyell turned from Alaric without another glance, walking back across the frost-strewn arena, her poise unbroken, her victory unquestioned.

Kaizer's voice carried above the fading cheers, dramatic as ever.

"And so—the ice princess of Ravenscroft reigns supreme! Remember this moment, because beauty and power have never danced so dangerously close!"

The arena still shook with the echoes of her triumph.
