Rias couldn't understand, Souna couldn't understand, and Arthas himself couldn't understand what eleven devil pieces meant.
Although it sounded impressive, Arthas didn't feel any increase in his power.
It seemed the devil pieces were merely necessary tools for devil reincarnation; the number used only represented the potential of the reincarnated individual, not a substantial increase in their power.
Arthas's first day at Kuoh Academy passed uneventfully. The next morning, as he woke up, he felt a tightness in his chest.
Blinking in confusion, he smelled a familiar feminine scent—a girl's perfume. Before him was a cascade of soft red hair.
What's going on…? Why is Rias on top of me, sleeping in my arms?
"Mmm… ugh…"
Arthas's movement stirred the sleeping girl. She opened her eyes and smiled at him.
"Good morning, my dear familiar."
"Ah… good morning… um…"
Still dazed, Arthas stared at the girl, who was now sitting up, revealing a breathtaking view.
Thankfully, his clothes were intact, so nothing strange had happened last night.
Just as Arthas was about to question her, the door burst open, and Souna, looking angry, stormed in.
"Oh, you're awake, Souna."
Completely ignoring Souna's anger, Rias lazily adjusted herself, sitting on the edge of the bed, unconcernedly exposing her flawless body to the other two.
"Be mindful, Rias. Don't forget your noble status as the sister of one of the Four Great Satan Rulers."
"Oh, my, my. There are no outsiders here, right, Arthas?"
"You!"
Souna was speechless with anger at Rias's behavior.
"Regardless, sneaking into my house needs explaining."
"Ha, I'd also like an explanation for you mysteriously making Arthas your brother!"
Rias retorted, causing Souna to blush slightly, turning away in embarrassment.
She hadn't expected Rias to discover this so quickly and counterattack so swiftly.
"Th… this was simply to give Arthas a convenient identity. I needed to explain his living arrangements to my familiars, and he needed a suitable identity to live at my house."
"If it's inconvenient for you, he can stay at my place. I don't mind; Arthas can stay under any identity."
"No, my place is more convenient. Today, Arthas is your familiar, so feel free to do as you please. I'm going to school now."
Souna said, turning to leave the room. Rias stuck out her tongue, a triumphant expression on her face.
Arthas shook his head, a mixture of helplessness and amusement on his face. He stood up, looking at Rias, rubbing his temples in frustration.
"Alright, stop it. Put your clothes on. Girls should be more reserved."
"It's only because it's you, Arthas. Others don't get this treatment."
Rias said with a pout, slowly getting dressed.
Due to the effects of the Sacred Gear, Arthas felt an indescribable longing for women.
However, he quickly suppressed this desire, calmly leaving the room. Now wasn't the time for such things; Arthas had many problems to deal with.
As Rias and Souna had agreed, Arthas, as Rias's familiar for the day, didn't see Souna at all, not even any of the student council members.
This amused and frustrated Arthas. If it continued, it would be exposed soon.
Kuoh Academy, Old School Building.
It was lunchtime. Students gathered in small groups, eating their lunches and gossiping.
Arthas looked up at the old white building, its walls covered in ivy.
A very old building. While it had classrooms, they weren't used. It was strange that it hadn't been demolished but was instead used as the Occult Research Club's base.
Because of strange rumors, few students came near.
Following the old stairs upward, he reached a classroom with a metal plate on the door reading "Occult Research Club."
The door wasn't locked. He pushed it open gently.
"Hey, hey, you're awfully late." Rias's displeased voice greeted him.
"Rias, you're the one who skipped class." Arthas shrugged helplessly, offering a wry smile. He began observing the room.
The walls were covered in inscriptions, and in the center was a large, dark red magic circle, the mark of the Gremory family.
Unlike Souna's familiars, Rias had few. Only a handful of people were in the room.
Rias sat on the central sofa, arms crossed in displeasure. Behind her, to the left, was a smiling girl with black hair. To the right, a boy with short, neat golden hair stood.
On the opposite sofa sat a petite girl with long white hair, who didn't even look at Arthas upon his entrance.
"Oh, my, my, this is our new companion? He seems rather cold."
The girl with long black hair and a ponytail spoke first, licking her lips as if she'd found a delicious treat.
"Hello, I'm Akeno Himejima."
As for the silver-haired girl, she remained silent, her head bowed.
It seemed… different from Souna's group. Rias's familiars weren't easy to get along with.
