Chapter 37 - The Sound Changes

Dear diary, well I am sorry for not keeping you up to date with what's been going on in my life , well I couldn't find the time but I am glad I am able to do it now.

Life's been going great. My company's growing and advancing every day. Jobs are flowing in, and we recently started working on a big project. It's a really big thing, and we have to make it work out. I trust my team, and I'm certain we'll deliver. There's no doubt about it.

Vicky and I are gently and slowly advancing to a higher ground in our relationship. We've not done things the way we should, but I'm happy that we're together, and everything's going on well. However, everything changed a bit when she arrived. Ever since she came, I've been feeling insecure. In fact, ever since the first day I met her, I felt broken. But I know Vicky won't leave me - he promised, and he won't break his promise.

But what if Vicky eventually gives in to Rose? He might resist, but he once loved her, after all. What if those feelings emerge again? What do I do then? Will things go back to the way they were? Will I be lonely again?

Diary, I trust Vicky with all my heart, but I'm sure Rose is planning something, and I don't know if Vicky will be able to withstand her ploys. Will he be able to withstand her? How would you know, you're just a book, am I right? Well, I just have to put my faith in Vicky, hoping he won't let me down.

Mirabel closes her diary, takes a deep breath, and stands up from her bed, ready to head out to the office. Just then, Annabelle's phone call comes in.

"Hey girl, what's up?" Annabelle asks.

"I'm good, Belle. I was just preparing to go to work when your phone call came in. Any problem?" Mirabel replies.

"Well, not really... I just wanted to check in on you before I forget," Annabelle says.

"Awwn, that's so sweet of you. Thanks," Mirabel responds.

"Well, how are things at work? Hope she ain't causing any problems for you," Annabelle asks.

Mirabel sits down on her bed. "Things are heating up a bit, Belle. I honestly don't know how to feel or what step to take..."

"Hmmm, I understand how you feel. Do you think Vicky is going to allow Rose to slip back into his life?" Annabelle asks.

"Well, judging by how he reacted when they met in the restaurant, it seemed she really broke him, so I don't think he'll give in. But still, he once loved her, Belle. Love doesn't die that easy, no matter how hard you try to hide it or pretend it isn't there..."

"You're right, but please don't stress yourself unnecessarily. Just trust Vicky," Annabelle advises.

" Belle I do but it's as if I'm going through the same ride all over again," Mirabel said, her voice laced with frustration. "I mean, why am I always the one who has to trust my partner? And anytime I put my trust in them, I get shattered. It's happened not once but twice, Belle, and now this again..., But I know Vicky loves me, and I love him too. I just wish I could shake off this feeling that Rose is going to cause problems for us."

"Mirabel, listen to me," Annabelle said soothingly. "I totally understand what you must be going through right now. I know it's not easy, but please just trust him. Do you think he's going to leave you?"

"I... honestly don't know, Belle," Mirabel replied, her voice trembling. "Sometimes when I look into his eyes, I see that he still feels something for her. I mean, when they come face-to-face, he suddenly seems a bit lost. I'm scared... what if Vicky leaves me for Rose?"

"Mirabel, you know what?" Annabelle suggested. "I think you should go on another date with him, just to take things further. Express your feelings and thoughts to him. Tell him you can't afford to lose him. Just be open with him."

"I don't know, Belle," Mirabel hesitated. "We're currently working on a really important project now. I don't think there'll be time..."

"You can go out on Saturday, can't you?" Annabelle asked.

"Yeah... I'll think about it," Mirabel said finally. "Thanks for calling, Belle."

"My pleasure," Annabelle replied. "Please don't stress yourself."

"Don't worry, I won't," Mirabel promised before cutting the call.

Meanwhile, back at the Journals Company, Vicky and his team sat opposite each other, brainstorming ideas for the Dreamweaver's ad. The silence was palpable, punctuated only by the occasional scribble of pen or rustle of paper. Vicky stared blankly into space, his mind a million miles away from the discussion.

"What could Rose possibly need my help for?" he thought. "She looked really worried... Did something happen to her?"

His colleagues exchanged glances, expecting one of them to break the silence that had taken over the room.

"Well..." Jimmy said, trying to spark some conversation. "Any ideas yet?"

"I have got nothing," Jessica replied.

"Same here," Frank chimed in.

"Vicky, do you have an idea?" Jimmy asked, but Vicky remained silent, barely hearing the question.

"Vicky!" Jimmy called out, snapping Vicky back to reality. "Yes..." he said, his voice trailing off.

"Are you alright? You seem really lost. What's wrong?" Jessica asks, concern etched on her face.

"No, no, nothing of that sort," Vicky replies. "I was just thinking of an idea for the ad, that's all."

"So, any idea?" Frank asks, curiosity getting the better of him.

"No, nothing yet," Vicky says. "I suggest we take a break. Besides, we still have two days to come up with something."

Just then, Dianne pokes her head into the office. "Yo, Vicky, Miss Mirabel wants to see you," she says before disappearing.

Vicky gets up to leave, and as he makes his way to Mirabel's office, he collides with Rose in the hallway.

"Sorry," Rose says hastily, excusing herself.

"Wait, Rose," Vicky calls out, but she's already gone.

Vicky shrugs and continues to Mirabel's office. When he arrives, he knocks on the door, and Mirabel invites him in.

"Good morning, Vicky," Mirabel says, her voice warm.

"Good morning, Mirabel," Vicky replies, taking his seat.

Mirabel notices Vicky's distant demeanor and asks if everything is okay. Vicky reassures her that he's fine, but Mirabel isn't convinced.

"I was thinking maybe we could head out for lunch on Saturday," Mirabel suggests, trying to gauge Vicky's interest.

"Yeah, it's cool," Vicky says, his response lacking enthusiasm.

Mirabel raises an eyebrow, sensing that something is off. "Vicky, are you sure you're alright? You seem lost," she asks, her voice laced with concern.

"I'm fine, nothing to worry about," Vicky says, his eyes avoiding hers. "I can't wait for Saturday to arrive. Well, I'll get back to work now."

With that, Vicky leaves Mirabel's office, leaving her feeling puzzled and uncertain about his behavior. Mirabel's thoughts swirled as she watched Vicky leave her office. "That's odd," she thought. "What's wrong with him? He'd never responded to me like this before." She searched his eyes for the loving look he usually gave her, but it was nowhere to be found. Her mind began to wander, filling in the blanks with worst-case scenarios.

She paused, taking a moment to collect her thoughts. "Mirabel, nothing's wrong," she reassured herself. "Maybe he's just stressed, that's all." With a deep breath, she pushed aside her doubts and opened the laptop on her desk, refocusing on the task at hand.
