Chapter 2 - The Appraisal Eye? I’m Shooting Straight to the Top!

----

The results might not be 100% reliable yet—but if Lovy could now evaluate a Pokémon at a glance, why wouldn't his livestream go viral?

It was only a matter of time!

Just as Lovy was getting excited and planning to try out his Appraisal Eye on his little Snorlax, an important phone call came in.

It was Marla, the manager from his streaming guild.

Lovy answered the call and was about to speak when she said:

"Lovy… I'm really sorry. The guild shareholders just issued a hard order—streamers with no performance for three months will be let go. But don't worry, we'll still pay you for this half-month."

Her tone was hesitant, like she was worried he couldn't handle the blow.

"Got it, Marla."

But Lovy's voice was surprisingly calm.

"If there's anything else, just message me on WeChat. It's almost 7 o'clock. I'm about to go live."

Marla hadn't expected Lovy to still be in the mood to stream after hearing such terrible news.

"The account the guild gave you will also be reclaimed…"

"I'll just register a new one."

Lovy replied nonchalantly.

After all, now that he had the Pokémon Appraisal System, going viral was just a matter of time. And leaving the guild meant he wouldn't have to split any earnings anymore—what great news!

As for the few hundred followers on the old account, out with the old, in with the new!

"Oh, and thank you, Marla."

With that, Lovy hung up.

To avoid any mishaps during the stream, he turned to his little Snorlax and activated the Appraisal Eye.

Big Eater Pokémon: Munchlax

Level: 3

Type: Normal

Gender: Male

Base Stats: B Grade (390)

Individual Value: D Grade (30)

Ability: Pickup

Nature: Lonely

Moves: Tackle, Lick

Status: Hungry

Evolution Path: Snorlax

Looking at the stats, Lovy clicked his tongue:

"This is so detailed. So the reason this little guy is sticking with me even though he's hungry is because he's got a lonely nature?"

Every Pokémon had a unique nature. In this world, there wasn't a clear way to identify it, since nature couldn't be measured directly. People had to figure it out over time.

And nature also affected a Pokémon's value.

A good-natured Pokémon could be vastly more valuable than a bad-natured one.

It was just like pets back in Lovy's previous life—friendly ones fetched better prices than antisocial ones.

But for Pokémon, nature was even more complicated since it affected both daily behavior and battle performance.

"Still, those base stats are pretty good. If I remember right, most starter Pokémon have base stats around 380. But they can evolve twice, and Munchlax only evolves once…"

"But man, that individual value is trash."

Lovy commented flatly.

Base stats referred to a Pokémon species' general potential.Individual values, on the other hand, determined the strength of a specific Pokémon.

Both stats were ranked from D to S, with higher being better.

To give a metaphor—base stats were like a classroom, and individual value was each student's performance within it.

Munchlax had B-rank base stats, pretty average. But his individual value was only D-rank—the lowest tier, basically a failing student.

"And the ability… nothing special."

Every Pokémon had an ability—sometimes multiple.Even Pokémon of the same species could have different abilities. Some abilities were known, and others were still being discovered—so-called Hidden Abilities.

For Munchlax, the known abilities were Pickup and Thick Fat. Most individuals only had one of the two.

A Munchlax with Pickup had a habit of grabbing random items, which could be useful—especially in the wild or in secret areas.

Thick Fat, on the other hand, was better for battle. It reduced damage from Fire- and Ice-type attacks.Even standard physical attacks had a hard time dealing heavy damage to a Thick Fat Pokémon.

"Why does Thick Fat reduce fire damage though? Shouldn't fat guys be more afraid of heat?" Lovy muttered.

The moves were actually decent: Munchlax had two.

Most low-level Pokémon typically had only one.Of course, the truly gifted could have three or four—or even more!

Moves referred to a Pokémon's special abilities, used in battle to deal damage or create status effects.

"Yeah, our little guy isn't really built for fighting. Trying to become a professional trainer with him… not very realistic."

Just as Lovy finished speaking, he noticed Munchlax staring up at him with wide, blank eyes. Its ears twitched slightly, and it looked… a little sad.

Lovy reached out and rubbed its chubby cheeks.

"Don't worry. I'm not aiming to be a pro trainer right now. I just want to stream in peace, make some money, and keep you well-fed and chubby."

"Mrrph!"

Munchlax seemed to understand, stretching out its stubby arms for a hug.

Lovy embraced it. Fluffy, like a giant plush toy—warm and comforting.

If he could get Munchlax fed regularly, it would probably feel even better!

"Alright, buddy. Time to stream. Let's earn some cash!"

Munchlax nodded, sort of understanding. Just like always, it sat loyally by Lovy's side as he prepared to go live.

Outside, the sky had already darkened. A gentle rain began to fall.

The pattering rain sounded soft and steady.

In their tiny, run-down apartment, a boy and his Pokémon found a quiet sense of peace and belonging.

"I will become a top streamer!"

Lovy's eyes were full of determination.Even without the system, he believed: as long as you don't give up, your time will come.

And now that he had a system?

He was destined to shoot straight to the top.

He might not be making money yet, but Lovy was already familiar with the streaming process.

He registered a new account, entered his bank info, real name, and ID.When it came time to pick a username, he hesitated—then typed: Appraisal Snorlax.

Munchlax was his first Pokémon, and he wanted to honor that.It also showed his commitment to feeding and raising it properly.

Stream Title:"New Streamer Debut! Free Pokémon Appraisals! Bring your partner and follow your dream!"

New streamers had no fame, but the platform gave a small amount of initial exposure.Whether or not you kept that traffic was everything.

If you retained it—or even converted viewers into followers—the platform would see your stream as high-quality, and give you more exposure!

Soon, Lovy's stream had its first few viewers.

[MuscleBoss]: Appraisal Snorlax? What, is that because your internet lags like crazy? LOL![CarrotLady]: Ooh, a new streamer. Not bad looking. So you're going the appraisal route instead of using your face, huh?

About ten people had joined, but only two were commenting.

Lovy cleared his throat and responded:

"Hey, Muscle… uh, Boss—my internet's fine. Snorlax is my Pokémon—little Munchlax."

As he spoke, he gently patted Munchlax and brought him into view.

The little guy behaved adorably, showing no resistance at all.

"And Ms. Carrot, I'm here to offer real Pokémon appraisals. No gifts required. Just stop by and check it out!"

[MuscleBoss]: Bro, your Munchlax is practically skin and bones. You should be in a clinic, not doing Pokémon evaluations!

[CarrotLady]: You expect us to believe you can appraise Pokémon through a screen? Got a license or something?

Lovy sighed internally. As expected, internet viewers were tough to win over.

Especially at the beginning, before he'd earned their trust, it was hard to get anyone to cooperate.

The stream had barely begun, and already some of the ten viewers were starting to leave…
