Emerald blinked at him, feeling uneasy. "What do you mean?"
Ares didn't move. His pale eyes glinted in the firelight. "I asked you… Has it all been worth it?"
Her throat tightened. "You keep saying that like I'm supposed to understand."
He stepped closer, speaking in a low tone. "Everything you've done. Every lie, every fight, every sacrifice, every action. Has it truly been for the people? Or are you doing all of this because you so desperately want to close that chapter of your life with him?"
Her breath hitched. "I… I don't know what you're talking about."
She swung off the bed and moved toward the door, but in the blink of an eye, he was there, pinning her body against the wall.
She gasped as his hand pressed her shoulder back against the wall in a firm but not painful way.
