Alia opened her mouth, but she couldn't make a sound. Her mind was racing, with thoughts crashing into each other like broken glass.
Did he know? Was this just the drink talking?
Rick held her arm tightly, his eyes cold and without mercy. He had never looked at her like this before. In all their years together, he had always been gentle with her. There had always been at least some trust between them.
Now, there was only fury.
"Speak," he snapped in a rough voice, his wolf bleeding through. "Tell me, Alia. Did you lie about the baby?"
Her lips trembled. She forced herself to meet his gaze. "Rick… how… how could you even ask me such a thing?"
Her voice cracked on purpose, letting the words stumble as tears welled in her eyes. "After everything, after all I've done for you, do you really think I could be capable of something so vile?"
Rick's jaw clenched. "Answer the question."
