Chapter 3 - 3: Boss

In front of Kael stood the most dangerous man in District 9, a title he had gotten through drugs, hextech, and prostitution. Word on the street is he was planning to overthrow the leading gang in the outskirts. The outskirts was the name given to the slum area of Grein city, a city far on the outskirts of the Aurum empire. There were 9 Districts in the outskirts, each with its own crime gangs. Nobles sapped up all the money they got from the empire, leading to a great wealth divide. This led to no supervision, thus gangs developed and now run the outskirts.

"I accomplished my mission," Kael responded curtly.

From his robes, he pulled out a cube, each of its sides having a different engraved pattern. It hummed with silent power, releasing a subtle blue glow from its engraving. Seeing this, Feng Yang's eyes widened, and a smile crept on his face.

"WONDERFUL, I didn't think you'd manage to obtain this, but you keep surprising me. I knew buying you in that slave market was the correct decision." He cheerfully proclaimed

He walked over, taking the cube from Kael's hand, and began fidgeting with it, as if he had just gained a new toy, and he might as well just have.

"According to our agreement, after delivering the synthesis core, you'll release the slave symbol," Kael said.

Feng Yuan's smile grew wider.

"Well, there are a few technicalities with that. You see, you're too useful to be free. Unlike my other subordinates, you get the job done, and with surprising efficiency, you leave no tracks; your work is clean, too clean. So I'm afraid I really can't let you go." He said with a devilish grin.

Kael's eyes widened. Today was the day he would escape this man, he was supposed to finish repaying his debt. To go and awaken. But his dreams came crashing down. He gazed at Feng Yuan's smile, he felt nothing but rage. His hand slowly reached to the side and grabbed hold of his dagger, he would end this man's life.

Feng Yuan's eyes followed Kael's hand, and his grin grew even bigger.

"Oh, please, Kael, that little dagger is going to do jack-shit against me." he said as his spread his arms.

Fang Yuan's aura suddenly slammed against Kale, forcing him to his knees.

"I'm at the knight tier, NO ONE in this district is my equal." He shouted.

His aura ramped up again, forcing the Kael to the ground. Pain, all Kael could feel was pain. He couldn't breathe, his face and the rest of his body were pressed to the ground, his ribs began to break, and the floor began to crack. But he didn't scream, no kept quiet. He refused to give Fang Yuan the satisfaction of seeing him in pain. Without his knowledge, the crystal around his neck began to glow.

"But, it is your birthday, so I can humor you a bit."

All the pressure disappeared, and Kael could finally breathe. He stood up, clutching his left ribs. Blood began to drizzle from his nose. But his eyes spoke of a different tale, defiance.

"I've got another mission for you; in fact, I'll officially make it your last." Feng Yuan told Kael, still with that same smile

"You bastard, you might as well kill me, I ain't doing your work anymore." Kael shot back

"Why so feisty? listen, I'll even sign a blood contract to guarantee you freedom. I'll even throw in 5 gold coins for you."

Kael's eyes widened. A blood contract was the real deal; it bound both the parties, and if one broke the the terms, they would be crippled or much worse death for the one breaking the terms. He still didn't trust Feng Yuan, but at this point, what choice did he have?
