Chapter 1 - Memory for the Nothing

Water trickled down the walls.

It was a cavern, far beneath the surface world.Even in its collapse, faint light shimmered from the mineral-laced walls. And there, in the center of that half-ruined cave, rested a single cocoon—wrapped in black fibers, motion stirred within.

With a sickening crack, the cocoon ruptured—and from it, a human was born.

A woman, missing an arm, fell to the cold stone floor.Slowly, she opened her eyes and took in the unfamiliar world around her.

And she whispered.

"...Who am I?"

Its cold.Water dripped down her body, soaking her skin and rags alike—for what she wore could hardly be called clothing. With a tattered sleeve, she wiped her face. Not knowing herself, she began to walk, trying to make sense of the world she'd awakened in.

"Mmh..."

Everything was unfamiliar.Shattered rocks lay everywhere, as if the ceiling had collapsed long ago, forming what barely passed for a corridor. She spotted what looked like a path upward, and instinctively headed that way—searching for an exit.

The cave bore signs of human presence.Scattered remnants of metal, rusted and broken.Abandoned long, long ago.

Then—She heard it. A voice, but not human.More like a beast's cry.

"...Its them."

She knew that voice.Knew the creature it belonged to.Without hesitation, she picked up a metal pipe from the ground and gripped it tight, turning it into a makeshift weapon.

She waited.

Before long, the beast revealed itself—a four-legged white creature, more animal than monster, sniffing its way toward her.It was likely hunting for food.Seeing it, she remembered—

She was hungry too.

Now face to face, the lone girl and the beast stared each other down. Two starving creatures. No words exchanged, yet each understood the other's intent.

She raised her weapon. The beast bared its fangs.

It lunged.She dodged—and struck.

A clean hit.The pipe shattered its skull, pulping brain matter beneath steel.Still, the creature twitched, clawing for survival.

And she… bit into it.Feasting. Consuming its life.

Power surged from within.

Her eyes gleamed with a feral light—a rush of ecstasy washing over her.And then… her left arm began to regrow.

But it wasn't human.

Grotesque. Twisted. The limb of a monster.

Startled, she tried to examine it—But before she could, a colossal force struck her.

Blown across rubble, her body slammed into a distant wall.

"Khah—!"

Her body hadn't healed completely. The impact carved pain deep into her bones, and her mind blurred—

"Gahh—!! Cough!Hack!"

Blood spilled from her mouth.Through blurred vision, she saw it—a beast ten times her size.

She couldn't move.Pain screamed through her nerves.

Closing her eyes, she surrendered to fate.

But then—

Something flew through the air.

She turned her head, just barely.

Two human figures stood in the distance.

"You okay!? Hang in there! We're coming to help!"

But before their words reached her—the massive beast struck.

A bolt of lightning pierced the woman's body, leaving her barely breathing.

The creature glared at the man beside her.

"I... have to... help..."

But what could she do?

Blood poured from her head, her wounds reopening, deeper than ever.

Still, she wished—No one else would die. That she had the strength to kill that thing from here.

And in that moment—

A dark haze filled her mind. No, not haze— its like liquid.Thick, black, suffocating fluid.

It swallowed her thoughts, staining her soul pitch-black.

"UAAAAAAHHHHHH!!"

She screamed—But what left her throat was no human voice.

"GRRAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!"

"Oliver… Leave me. Run…"

"Fuck no!"

A dying woman and a man who refused to abandon her—And before them, a beast beyond comprehension, brimming with destructive power.

As it lunged to finish them—

Something black crashed into it, flinging it away.

Another creature.A black beast had appeared from nowhere.

It wasn't human. But it roared at the thunder-wielding monster with raw hostility—

"GROOOOOAAAARRRRR!!!"

Its horns. Its arms. There was something in its shape—something that reminded them of her.

"You okay!?"

The man shouted through his communicator.

"Somehow… Yeah, I'm fine."

But doubt weighed in his voice.

"Can humans… really turn into chimeras?"

It wasn't fighting to destroy—It was fighting to protect.

This black beast was not like the others.

Lightning tore through the air—but it charged through, unshaken. It tore limbs off, crushed bones, and bit down without mercy.

"Ermes… If the comms had gone dead, just assume we didn't make it."

We next...?That thought crossed their minds.

But the black beast only stared—then slowly dropped to its knees, its form evaporating into smoke.

From within its chest—

She fell.

Collapsing onto the ground, unconscious—peacefully asleep.
