Chapter 38 - Ripples

Hogwarts Castle:

Professor McGonagall slowly walked to the headmaster's office to see Dumbledore enjoying tea and sweets.

"Were you present at the signing?"

"I was."

"What do you think?"

"A very talented child and well-spoken — he deserves the title of child prodigy."

"True, but what I'm asking is about what he said."

Dumbledore slowly sipped his tea, "Most of what he said is true; some are exaggerated, some outright wrong, but he did not address the crux of the problem."

"Which is?"

"The magical world is not ready for any drastic or sudden change."

"You may be wrong on this," said McGonagall.

"What happened?"

"I received numerous letters from parents asking whether you would be interested in creating a magic university. I reckon more letters would be coming once this event spreads worldwide."

Dumbledore calmly looked at her with his blue eyes. "The value of knowledge is different from that of the Muggle World because, to us, knowledge equates to power. And we are not ready for an advanced magical society until we deal with some of our deep-rooted issues."

"And when exactly will we be ready?"

Dumbledore looked out his window, "I have a feeling it will be very soon."

McGonagall sighed, "Maybe we can do something beforehand."

"Do you have any suggestions?"

"We could increase the school's club activities to give the children a better opportunity to learn outside class."

"That's an excellent idea," nodded Dumbledore. "Tell me if you need anything."

After this meeting, McGonagall's words proved correct as more parents and people sent letters to Hogwarts and Dumbledore about the Magic University. There were words from the International Confederation of Wizards, with whispers of a meeting to discuss things. However, the meeting went nowhere when Dumbledore, the Supreme Mugwump, sent a letter to share his thoughts.

Ultimately, Christian's actions were like dropping a rock into a pond. Although he created ripples, they soon subsided.

"Oh, that was terrible," said Christian after returning home from the book signing. "All those eyes on me — I thought my heart was about to give out."

"You look fine to me," said Tiara with a smile.

"Look at my hands." His hands were genuinely trembling now that he was more relaxed.

"Didn't you have to speak publicly at school at your Leaders of Tomorrow Club?"

"It's not the same thing. Those events involved my peers and a few adults. Plus, not everyone in attendance held a wand that could attack me at any time. I was so prepared for Aurelius to attack me."

"I had my eye on him, too, and I think he would have attacked if not for that reporter's intervention," nodded Tiara. "However, overall, I think this was a positive experience."

Christian fetched some butterbeer from the fridge to calm down. "What do you think will happen after what I said?"

"I don't know," replied Tiara. "Some changes might occur because of your words, or you might be a sensation for a few months before everything calms down and people just forget."

"I figured as much."

"There is no need to be disappointed. The magical world has been stagnant for too long, and it will take a lot more to have positive changes," reassured Tiara. "What you did today might be an insignificant step or a large leap; it doesn't matter. What truly matters is your desire and effort at changing it, and for that, I will always be proud of you."

"Thank you; those words mean a lot."

Tiara smiled as he saw how mature her son had become. No one who saw him would think of him as an 11-year-old child.

'If it were up to me, I would want you to be a child for as long as needed. Sadly, fate has other plans for you, so early maturity is a gift instead of a curse,' thought Tiara.

"Let's talk about the next signings, as things might get more turbulent."

"Are you talking about the pureblood families?"

"Yes. Evershade is one of the weaker and less powerful ones. The others, like the Bulstrode, Flint, Greengrass, and Malfoy, will also interfere."

"What can they do?"

"I don't know, but prepare for possible chaos in your next signing."

Tiara was correct. Two days later, there was another disturbance in the signing. It started with someone questioning how Christian could say Muggles were more powerful than wizards, especially the statement in his book that an ordinary gun could kill an untrained wizard.

Christian explained that guns and wands were essentially the same, but a firearm was faster because wizards needed incantations. So, unless someone can use nonverbal spells, which 90% of wizards cannot do, an ordinary Muggle with a gun could kill them.

He talked about how a trained Muggle Sniper could kill the best wizard thousands of miles away unless there is a Danger Sensing Charm that he does not know about. He talked about powerful weapons like tanks, missiles, airplane bombing, and atomic bombs, telling people that only wizards who have mastered Apparition do not have to worry about these things; statistically speaking, not many wizards do.

Christian ended the conversation by firing back at pureblood families and blaming them for the lack of magical development in the world. He argues that their generational wealth ensured they were the only ones capable of in-depth magic research without worrying about a job or resources.

However, the research results are stuck in their family's library, gathering dust until lost or stored in a place like Gringotts. If they had shared this research or put it to the betterment of the wizarding world, things would not have been as they are.

Of course, the old families did not like it and tried using other methods, including intimidation and economic sanctions, to stop this signing. Tiara was not having any of it. She showed them she would not lose to their generational wealth, and once they tried to use underhanded tactics, she showed them she was also willing to do the same to protect her son.

There was some good news from this ordeal. The second signing created a minor sensation, as a tangible and noticeable change occurred immediately afterward.

The eleven top magic schools began to emphasize teaching nonverbal casting and Apparition. They taught it before, but now, they have increased the strictness and requirements for these things. For example, Hogwarts offered an optional twelve-week course about Apparitions to children who are seventeen or will turn seventeen during the school year, costing 12 Galleons.

Now, it was a mandatory 24-week course for children of sixteen and cost 3 Galleons. Besides Lucius Malfoy, all the Hogwarts Board of Governors agreed to Dumbledore's request to increase school funding for this change.

Christian learned of this change much later. In the meantime, his signing tour turned global. First was France, then Spain, Germany, the US, and finally Brazil. Luckily, Floo Powder made traveling easy, so it did not take much toll on him.

He did discover that reporters wanted him to say something controversial or shocking wherever he went, but he controlled himself. Otherwise, he almost asked a French Journalist whether they knew the secret ingredient of the Philosopher's Stone, created by their country's most famous wizard, was human souls.

June 15th was the last day of his tour, and Christian felt relieved. Somehow, he missed his magic lessons at home instead of in some foreign country. Plus, he felt his mother was softer on him when she taught him during the tour.
