Chapter 225 - Chapter 225: The Sage’s Cruel Design

"Never thought the thousand-year history of the shinobi world would turn out like this!"

Inside the Hamura Temple, Kitagawa Gen closed the book in his hands, unable to suppress a sigh of amazement.

"So the Uchiha clan and the Senju clan came about this way. To think—they were actually brothers."

Beside him, one of his shadow clones nodded, but soon raised another question.

"Come to think of it, don't these people look a lot like the Hyūga?"

"Most likely some of them went down to the shinobi world at some point."

Another clone spoke up at just the right time, then casually added, "And they probably never found a way back up. If not for the Tenseigan, even we would've had a hard time making it here."

"That's true. Without the guidance of the Tenseigan, it really would've been nearly impossible for us."

Kitagawa Gen rubbed his chin, then asked curiously, "But isn't it strange? According to these records, the Sage of Six Paths created Ninshū—so why did he let his two sons fight each other so recklessly in the end?"

"Yeah, it really is strange. Could it be he had some deeper purpose in mind?"

The war between Indra and Asura—honestly, even Gen himself wasn't sure how to judge it.

But he believed that if the Sage had truly wanted to stop it, he would have had the means to do so.

The problem was, the conflict dragged on for a thousand years, even continuing through their descendants, each generation "switching accounts" and carrying on the fight!

There was so much that could be said on the subject. Gen even thought he might use it to divert that old man's attention for a while.

And at the same time—

'Maybe I can also figure out what the Sage of Six Paths is really up to.'

Truth be told, he had always wondered whether the Sage had noticed him or not.

The odds of being discovered weren't low—after all, even in death, the Sage still kept watch over the shinobi world.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have appeared at Naruto and Sasuke's most desperate moment, personally handing them their "power-ups"!

But until now, the Sage had completely ignored him. Which meant perhaps he had his own reasons.

And this was the perfect chance to try something out—to test it for himself.

These were the kinds of things he had already prepared himself to confront when he came here.

"You think this might have been the Sage of Six Paths' intention all along?"

With that thought, Gen deliberately posed the question to his gathered shadow clones.

"These records say a lot about the so-called 'Celestial Beings'—they might well be the greatest threat of all. So tell me—

wasn't this maybe…"

"A deliberate plan to prepare for those Celestial Beings?"

The clones already knew the script. One of them immediately answered, "I think that's entirely possible."

Gen nodded, raising his voice on purpose.

"After all, the enemy is dangerous. And the Sage of Six Paths—well, he supposedly died long ago. So if those 'Celestial Beings' were to come after his death, how could they be opposed?"

"By training the entire shinobi world, of course!"

One clone nodded "thoughtfully," as if something had just clicked.

"So what you're saying is—the Sage deliberately let his two sons fight without end, dragging the whole shinobi world into it?"

"The shinobi world has been plunged into war. Though everyone faces death and lives on the edge each day, their use of chakra will be greatly enhanced."

"Not only that—it's also a honing of battle skills, a tempering of the will to fight. These things seep into the body, becoming instinct."

"By raising so many powerful shinobi, if those so-called 'Celestial Beings' ever arrive, the shinobi world wouldn't be without the strength to stand against them."

"Even if they all died, could the shinobi world still save itself?"

The shadow clones spoke one after another, without pause, restructuring the thousand-year conflict between Uchiha and Senju entirely in their own way.

And their discussion only grew broader.

"How cruel… to use the blood of his two sons and their descendants, along with the lives of countless beings across a thousand years of the shinobi world, to lay down such a plan. Was this really the Sage of Six Paths?"

"Indeed, a thousand years of war—countless dead, untold suffering. But if it was for the future of humanity, perhaps…"

"The Sage of Six Paths may have been utterly cold, but perhaps he truly was worthy of respect. But then what about the people on the moon—"

"Idiot. Didn't the Hyūga go down? Even if they're not much, at least they joined in that trial."

"And the people who stayed on the moon—don't you think they might have been left here as an outpost, meant to be the first line of defense against those 'Celestial Beings'?"

"Tch! If that's the case, then the Sage's younger brother seems just as cold-blooded."

"True. Though he too may be worthy of respect, still…"

"You can only say—they really are brothers!"

Conspiracy theories like this—Kitagawa Gen had seen plenty of them before his so-called "stroke of fortune." Spinning them out came as naturally as breathing.

And truth be told, Gen had long wanted to complain about it all. Now he simply couldn't stop himself—from Uchiha to Senju, from Hyūga to the Moon Ōtsutsuki, from the Sage of Six Paths to Ōtsutsuki Hamura—they were going all out in their debate.

And as the debate went on, Kitagawa Gen's true body was watching closely—until suddenly, his eyes lit up!

'At last, he's gone. Then…'

His gaze shifted to the massive Tenseigan beside him. He had been waiting for this moment all along.

...

"Elder Brother… could it be you once had such thoughts?"

Within the Pure Land, the figure of Ōtsutsuki Hamura appeared quietly. At this moment, his expression looked particularly strange.

These past days, he had been constantly observing Kitagawa Gen—and he had found the boy exceedingly peculiar.

This boy had used the Tenseigan to aid the shinobi world, and at the same time repaired the moon. These days, he had spent all his time reading.

Hamura still had no idea what exactly Kitagawa Gen was doing, but he felt certain—this child had not come for the sake of their mother.

And so—

Today, he had heard a set of utterly explosive claims. Claims so unbelievable that even he was shaken.

Yet the more he pondered them, the more he felt… maybe there wasn't anything wrong with them?

"Tch… could it be that my elder brother is a genius?!"

After all, if things were really like that—then maybe the world truly could be saved?

Even so, far too many doubts lingered in his heart. He wanted to speak with his dear elder brother.

Because something still felt wrong…

"Hamura, what brings you here?"

Just as he was deep in thought, suddenly his elder brother's voice echoed in his ear.

He looked up—and there, floating before him, was his elder brother, watching him with a puzzled expression.

"Elder Brother, you—"

"What's this? After so long apart, you can't even string words together?"

The Sage of Six Paths studied his younger brother's conflicted face, curiosity sparking in his own eyes.

"No… I was just thinking over some questions."

Ōtsutsuki Hamura shook his head, clearly hesitant to speak.

"You came here just for that? Incredible. Then tell me—what questions?"

The Sage chuckled softly. It had been a long time since he'd seen his younger brother like this.

But in the next moment, his face froze.

"Elder Brother, the war between Indra and Asura—it was deliberate, wasn't it?"

"?"

"Only that way could you prepare the shinobi world for the future, right?"

"…"

"But… with so many dead across a thousand years—wasn't that far too cruel?"

"…"

"And when I went to the moon back then… was that part of your plan as well?"

"…"

The Sage of Six Paths stared at his younger brother in bafflement. What in the world was he even talking about?

He was beginning to suspect that his brother had lost his mind—how else could he say something so absurd?

But before he could speak, his head suddenly tilted upward.

And not only him—Ōtsutsuki Hamura did the same. Strange expressions overtook their faces as they raised their gaze, as though not even the skies of the Pure Land could hinder their sight.

Before their eyes, the phantom image of the moon appeared.

On the moon's surface, Kitagawa Gen was shrouded entirely in golden chakra.

He sat there in utter stillness, as though not yet fully awakened—but his aura had already undergone a fundamental transformation.

In the next instant, a surge of boundless chakra shot skyward.

Brilliant azure light erupted from within the moon, piercing straight into the heavens.

An ancient, mysterious aura radiated outward from the lunar depths, spreading across the cosmos!

And within Kitagawa Gen's eyes, the system's interface silently unfolded.
