Chapter 123 - Chapter 123: Huge Gains, Chest Opening

The only thing that annoyed Gusion was the eye-catching Legendary Chest, labeled as compensation for killing Muzan.

This meant there was a chance to get a Legendary Chest for killing Muzan, but since he didn't get it as a drop, the system compensated him, taking up one reward slot. Yet, he couldn't possibly refuse a legendary item.

So much for his good luck—why didn't he get the drop? And why did the side quest only count the Twelve Kizuki and ordinary demons, but not Muzan?

Gusion could only complain a little in his heart. Overall, his haul from this world was still immense. After finishing his cola, he pulled the coffee table closer, ready to organize his spoils.

He'd noticed that most chests dropped from demons yielded demon-related items that weren't directly useful, so he'd saved up all his chests for one big opening session.

He liked opening them all at once, believing his luck would net him plenty of good stuff.

On the table were four purple chests from Upper Moon Five, Lower Moon One, Upper Moon Three, and Upper Moon Two.

There were also three rare chests—he hadn't kept track of which demons dropped them but guessed they were from Lower Moon demons he'd killed in the Infinity Castle. He'd picked them up while sweeping the battlefield.

The rest were Dead Man's Chests, six in total. Two were from Seifu and an unknown Upper Moon Eight, the rest likely from the new Twelve Kizuki promoted by Muzan.

Recalling game mechanics, Gusion decided to start with the trashier chests.

[System] [You obtained Blood Demon Art: Blood Vine Skill Scroll (Rare)]

After opening three rare chests, Gusion remained calm. The rewards were garbage, but he wasn't surprised—rare chests weren't expected to yield anything great. The Blood Vine skill scroll he got was a mediocre spell that required demon bloodline to use, unlikely to sell.

He continued on, opening the two purple chests from Lower Moon One and Upper Moon Five.

[System] [You obtained 4,000 Terminal Coins…]

[System] [You obtained 6,000 Terminal Coins…]

Gusion was stunned. "That's it? From purple chests? Where are the items? Where's the gear?"

He'd seen the system's published drop rates: only a 10% chance for coins. How did he get two in a row? Something's not right.

His composure wavered. Deep breath—time for the more controllable Dead Man's Chest, where he could feel the item inside before pulling it out.

The first felt soft yet tough, slender, with a handle—probably a whip-like weapon.

He quickly pulled it out to check.

[System] [You obtained: Kinky Whip x1]

"Damn it!"

Gusion tossed the whip away, cursing the mental state of End Space explorers.

Two more chances.

[System] [You obtained 600 Terminal Coins…]

[System] [You obtained 200 Terminal Coins…]

Gusion: ???

He remembered this chest was from Upper Moon Eight. Not only no gear but so little money too!?

No more gentle expression—he opened the next Dead Man's Chest.

[System] [You obtained 800 Terminal Coins…]

[System] [You obtained End Space Mosquito Repellent x1…]

[System] [You obtained a Large Bar of Soap x1…]

Looking at the junk he'd pulled out, Gusion doubted his luck and the sanity of fellow explorers. But he realized most explorers put a lot of junk in their Dead Man's Chests to prevent their enemies from profiting if they died.

After so many losses, Gusion opened the remaining chests quickly, not bothering to feel for items.

The next five Dead Man's Chests were nearly all coins and junk. Only when he opened the sixth—Seifu's chest—did Gusion finally smile.

[System] [You obtained: Seven Emotions Token (Purple) x1]

This was a max-score purple item. Using it summoned Upper Moon Four to fight for you, and if the demon survived, you could recall it for later use. It was extremely powerful—though not much use for Gusion, for a first-rank explorer it would make you nearly unstoppable in any low-level world.

Such top-tier items were too expensive for most new explorers, so Gusion planned to sell it to a guild.

After the thrill, he frowned—realizing this meant Seifu had killed an ally (Upper Moon Four), got a purple chest, and then a top-tier item, despite no drop rate bonus! Why could weaklings get such luck, while he got nothing but coins from most demons?

With doubts in mind, he drew again.

[System] [You obtained 1,800 Terminal Coins…]

He twitched, then reached in without looking.

[System] [You obtained: Large Bowl of Old-Fashioned Noodles (Purple)]

This was a food item from the Food Wars world, which rapidly restored soul and health—an excellent recovery item.

Luck had turned!

Gusion perked up and rapidly opened the rest.

[System] [You obtained: Expert Combat Specialization Scroll x1]

The Upper Moon Three chest yielded a scroll—useless to him, but valuable for sale.

[System] [You obtained Blood Demon Art: Mist Ice—Water Lily Buddha Skill Scroll x1]

The Upper Moon Two chest's item was another skill scroll, requiring demon bloodline. Powerful, but limited in market.

From a hidden quest, Gusion had obtained the legendary Other Shore Demon bloodline, superior even to Muzan's, immune to sunlight, with no obvious weaknesses. But it still caused a craving for human flesh, too hard to control.

Though confident in managing his desires, Gusion knew bloodlines couldn't usually be stacked, so he preferred to save his slot for something better. He planned to sell this bloodline with the skill scrolls, if anyone could afford them.

Gusion solemnly took out the last two chests—from Upper Moon One and the legendary chest from killing Muzan.

He reached for the Upper Moon One chest, his first ever legendary drop, full of anticipation.

But no special effects, just a bland notification.

[System] [You obtained Inheritance Crystal (Small) x10]

Gusion fell into deep thought. These were valuable, worth at least 40,000 coins, but he still felt slightly cheated out of a legendary item.

He took a deep breath, looking at the final chest. "End Space, don't screw me now!"

He opened it.

A dazzling orange-yellow light burst from the chest, lighting up the whole room.

Gusion's face lit up with joy—by gaming logic, this had to be a jackpot!

[System] [You obtained: Heart's Desire Pendant (Legendary)]

Hearing the name, Gusion's smile froze. But he calmed down—since it glowed, it had to be good. Once the light faded, he examined it.

A blood-red, heart-shaped pendant, semi-transparent, with blood-like veins—a strange, beautiful thing.

Gusion twitched at the evaluation, but the End Space's comments were fair.

As a legendary accessory, the Heart's Desire Pendant had just two skills, but both were incredibly powerful—massively boosting survivability. It was the ultimate tank item.

30% more max health meant a much longer "health bar." +500% regen saved on potions, and combined with his special bed, sleeping alone would rival some healing items.

Even better, healing was vastly amplified. What once took five seconds to heal now took less than one.

If tank players saw this, they'd break the bank for it. But Gusion wasn't selling—despite the small downside and silly name, it was a top-tier legendary item, better than his old Giant's Heart necklace.

After opening all the chests, Gusion got up, heading to the Enhancement Hall to upgrade. He now had 25 attribute points, ready for a big boost.

He was also interested in the attribute limit rewards mentioned by the system.
