Chapter 185: Nowhere to Run
"A Vision, huh... That guy in the Battousaid setup—was it the visitor from Hanamizaka?"
In this world, one's attire often reflected their inner nature. And that guy, dressed like a wandering swordsman, clearly held a Pyro Vision.
Now that he thought about the earlier reports—how this man fought with wild abandon even while in the midst of a tug-of-war—it all made sense. That sort of reckless confidence was textbook Pyro wielder behavior.
Damn it. Should've had the scouts strip him first.
On the ferry, things were the exact opposite of the chaos on shore.
Cheers erupted from the passengers.
They hadn't seen what exactly had happened—but they'd seen the pillar of fire rise into the night, followed by an explosion of lightning.
Even the dullest eyes could tell something incredible had just happened.
But Bai Luo knew better than anyone—
There's not just one of those damn cannons.
BOOOOOM!
A roar like the wrath of the heavens shattered the night.
Another deep violet orb of condensed lightning came screaming toward them.
Only Bai Luo's constant vigilance allowed him to intercept it just in time.
If he hadn't, this entire ship would've been blown into driftwood.
The cheering died instantly.
People were still frozen in poses of celebration—but their faces twisted into a mess of emotions:
Shock.
Disbelief.
Despair.
Fury.
"Damn those Shogunate bastards! Can't they just let us go?!"
"Tenryou dogs! Even if I die, I'll come back and haunt you!"
Someone shouted—and suddenly the air shifted.
Refugees began grabbing anything within reach—rotten planks, broken crates, even their own shoes.
They hurled them toward Tatarasuna with every ounce of hate they had.
Splashes rang out as the makeshift projectiles hit the water, one after another.
Their rage was real.
But their actions?
Pointless.
Some even managed to get hold of weapons dropped by the dead soldiers.
But those blades—once a source of comfort in the hands of the desperate—now looked utterly useless against the Kamuijima Cannons.
A shimmer of light.
Sveta appeared at Bai Luo's side, hands clasped in silent prayer.
Her summoned water barrier was dense enough to block even the perpetual lightning storm that ringed Inazuma.
So yes, it could block a few shots from the Kamuijima Cannons.
A few.
The cannons weren't designed to blanket a wide area. They were siege weapons—optimized for concentrated, penetrative firepower.
When the refugees first saw the barrier, they panicked—thinking it was another Shogunate trick.
But when it shielded them from the next blast...
Their eyes filled with hope.
"Lord Battousai! Please—save us!"
Some even fell to their knees, facing Bai Luo and the now-unconcealed Sveta, hands pressed together in desperate prayer.
They didn't know whether he was truly the legendary Battousai they had heard rumors about.
But right now—he was the only hope they had.
With Heartfire of the Earth off cooldown, Bai Luo didn't hesitate.
He locked onto the next Kamuijima Cannon just as it began to charge.
BOOOM!!
Another eruption.
Lava clashed with lightning, triggering a violent elemental reaction—Overload.
The force blew the entire cannon structure apart, sending burning debris and soldiers alike flying into the night.
On the shore, the Shogunate officer watching the battle gripped his sword tighter.
One cannon destroyed might be excusable.
But two?
No. We can't afford any more losses.
Kamuijima Cannons weren't cheap.
Letting them be destroyed like this—he'd be the one held accountable.
"Transmit the order—deploy all available Kamuijima Cannons. I'll speak to General Masahito myself."
This mission, this slaughter of refugees—it hadn't come from General Kujou Masahito.
It had come directly from his father, Kujou Takayuki, who had bypassed the front-line command structure.
The officer knew the general well enough to guess that Masahito would never have authorized this kind of massacre.
But now, it was too late for doubt.
They had to sink that ship, no matter the cost.
If they failed, none of them would live to see the fallout.
CLUNK... CLUNK...
The other Kamuijima Cannons—those once pointed toward Yashiori Island and Nazuchi Beach—slowly began to rotate.
Their sights now fixed squarely on the open sea...
. . . . .
