Chapter 22 - 22

"Looks like I still have pretty good taste."

Avery got out and took a look. The small sports car across from her had its entire front end smashed in.

The one she was driving only had a slight dent. Nothing serious.

Seeing the car could still run, she continued driving. After testing it for over ten minutes, she finally got a feel for it.

"Driving myself feels amazing. I can go anywhere I want, totally free."

Half an hour later, she finally made it onto the main road. Once she got the hang of it, her driving improved.

When she reached an intersection, she didn't stop and just drove straight through.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The loud crash and screeching brakes pierced her ears.

"Crap! What the hell was that car doing suddenly rushing out like that? Is that idiot even capable of driving?"

Avery had crashed into a black sedan. Once both cars came to a stop, she immediately started shouting.

That really scared her.

"Are you blind? Didn't you see the traffic light? Good thing we weren't going fast, or we'd be dead right now."

The driver of the black sedan got out, equally furious.

He was driving normally. The other car completely ignored the red light.

If he hadn't turned the wheel quickly, the crash would've been much worse.

"Traffic light!"

Only when he mentioned it did Avery realize her mistake. Damn. She really had forgotten to check.

She still wasn't used to driving here. In the apocalypse, no one cared about traffic lights.

Survival was all that mattered. But now what? She didn't even have a license and had just broken the law.

According to this world's laws, she could end up in jail for ten days or more.

"Forget it. Yelling won't fix this. Let's just call the traffic police."

Seeing how shocked she looked, the man stopped yelling. He pulled out his phone to call.

They needed to solve the problem first.

"No, no, please, sir, I'm begging you. I don't have a license. If you call the traffic police, I'll be locked up.

I'm not even an adult yet. If I get locked up, my whole life will be ruined."

Avery grabbed his hand, stopping him from dialing. She looked like she was about to cry.

"You're driving without a license? What were you even thinking? But look at my car. It's wrecked. What am I supposed to do?"

The man was both angry and heartbroken over his car.

But seeing her like this, he hesitated. Sending a young girl to jail might really ruin her life.

"How much is your car worth? I'll pay you. Just please don't report me. I'm still a student. If I go to jail, it's over for me."

She didn't mind paying. Asher had tons of money. She could just take a bit more from him later.

Besides, this guy drove a regular Audi. It probably wouldn't cost that much.

"No, no, that's not necessary. Just cover the repair costs.

Even though one side of the car is damaged, it doesn't need a full replacement.

I'm not sure how much it'll cost yet. Let's go to a repair shop and ask."

He didn't want to scam her out of money, but she still had to take responsibility.

He didn't have the cash to cover it himself right now.

"Alright, I'll do whatever you say."

Avery immediately stopped crying and gave him a few more looks.

Seems like he's a decent guy. He deserves a good person card.

Even though one side of the car was dented, it could still run. They quickly reached the repair shop.

"This car's pretty badly damaged. The repair's going to cost at least 60,000."

After the repairman checked the damage, he gave them a price.

"No problem, but please make sure you fix it properly."

Avery agreed right away. A few tens of thousands wasn't expensive.

"That's for sure. We're professionals."

Since she agreed, the repairman immediately arranged for someone to start working.

"Big brother, what's your name? Why don't we add each other on WeChat?

If you need anything, you can contact me anytime."

Since he didn't try to scam her, Avery was willing to stay in touch.

"My name's Wyatt. And you?"

Wyatt pulled out his phone to scan her code. It was good to stay connected.

Now that he had her contact, he couldn't help glancing at her again. She's so pretty.

"Wow, your name is so unusual. Do you often stay at home?"

Avery almost laughed when she heard his name, but she quickly scanned his code.

"Yeah. My brother used to run around all the time like a monkey.

So after I was born, my parents wanted me to stay home more.

That's why they gave me this name. Actually, I think it's pretty nice now."

Wyatt looked a little disappointed when she didn't comment on his name. Seemed like he didn't have a chance.

"All right, I've added you."

Avery not only added him on WeChat but also sent her name.

"Avery. That's such a nice name."

Wyatt smiled happily at his phone and quickly saved her contact.

"Big brother, I haven't had breakfast yet. Have you eaten? Do you want to eat together?"

Avery felt a bit hungry.

"Sure, let's go."

Wyatt immediately agreed to go with her.

"Okay."

Soon they arrived at a nearby breakfast shop. They only ordered some simple food for a few dozen yuan, and Wyatt paid for it.

"Big brother, what do you do for work?"

Avery chatted with him while eating.

"I work in IT software. What school do you go to?"

Wyatt wanted to learn more about her.

"I go to Huayu. I'm a freshman this year."

"So impressive. That's one of the top universities in Longqi Country."

Wyatt was surprised when she mentioned the name of the school. No wonder she drove such a nice car.

"Sigh, it's a sad story. Someone helped me get in back then.

But now I'm just an orphan. No parents, no siblings. I don't even know if I'll be able to finish university there."

Avery felt that if she didn't cooperate with Asher, she might not be able to stay in that school for long.

That school was rotten to the core. Everything was about money and power.

Even if she wanted to develop her career, it wouldn't be that easy now.

What mattered more was that she didn't have anyone she could fully trust yet. If she had to do everything herself, she'd be overwhelmed.

She still wanted to have fun for a while. She didn't want her life and time to be wasted entirely on those things.
