Rayquaza narrowed its eyes, answering Calyrex with action.
It twisted and spiraled through the sky like a soaring dragon, jaws opening wide. With an angry roar, Rayquaza's voice echoed through the world.
"Rooaaar—!"
Since Calyrex refused to back down, Rayquaza dropped any thought of leaving—determined to crush this arrogant king!
Destructive energy gathered in Rayquaza's mouth, forming a thick beam of black-violet light that blasted through the air toward Calyrex!
"Hmph."
Calyrex snorted coldly. The spinning snow spear shot out like an arrow, its frigid aura clashing with the destructive beam. Energy exploded midair, twisting the air and filling the sky with brilliant, chaotic lights and a deafening hum.
Boom—KA-BOOM!
Then, the out-of-control energy detonated in a primal blast. Blue ice mist and black-violet flames swallowed each other, wild winds sweeping in all directions.
Facing the storm, Calyrex stood unmoved, eyes locked on the black mist as it poured out psychic energy.
It could just make out Rayquaza's figure, dancing in the sky—its tough body shrugging off the beam's aftermath.
"Dragon Dance!"
Locking onto Rayquaza, Calyrex instantly conjured two more snow spears and hurled them straight at it!
The spears pierced the mist, freezing everything in their path—even the tiniest dust in the air turned to sparkling ice crystals, drifting down.
A dazzling blue line split the gray clouds as the spears shot forward.
Rayquaza, disdainful, glanced at the spears flying toward it.
Four-times weakness—did it feel bad?
Of course... but if they didn't hit, it didn't matter.
Facing an equal, Rayquaza didn't slack for a moment, using the evasive skills honed over countless physical mediations with Gyarados and Swampert.
Boosted by Dragon Dance, Rayquaza's agile figure drew graceful arcs in the sky, easily dodging the snow spears.
As if taunting, Rayquaza spat another Hyper Beam at Calyrex.
Calyrex calmly gathered snow and wind, forming a solid ice shield to block the beam.
Meanwhile, Glastrier, in perfect sync, released intense cold from its hooves, forming platforms for them to leap after Rayquaza in the sky.
But Glastrier, heavy and less agile than Spectrier, was at a disadvantage against Rayquaza's nimbleness.
Their attacks had power and speed, and if they struck, the advantage would swing their way.
But Rayquaza's evasive maneuvers always slipped past, counterattacking sharply and never letting them close in.
Calyrex considered abandoning its absolute advantage for now—switching to the more mobile Spectrier, sealing Rayquaza's movements with Astral Barrage, and then striking.
Just then, Lucas finished treating Luxray and the Dragonite family, mounted Spectrier, and called out from afar: "Use Trick Room! It can reverse your speed difference!"
Trick Room?
Hearing the unfamiliar name, Calyrex frowned, searching its memory for the move.
At the same time, it kept up the pressure—boosting Glastrier's blizzard and blowing a storm at Rayquaza.
Rayquaza countered by spewing flames that clashed with the blizzard, lighting up the sky.
Both sides were sharp and clever.
Rayquaza maintained its mobility and agility, striking at every opening.
Calyrex, while suppressing Rayquaza with attacks, dug through its memories for the long-lost move it might have once grasped but never used.
Finally.
As Calyrex and Rayquaza crossed paths—one thrusting a snow spear, the other charging with Dragon Ascent—it remembered how to cast Trick Room.
But Calyrex didn't use it immediately.
It knew that Trick Room's setup time would let Rayquaza notice something was off and dodge with Dragon Ascent or Extreme Speed.
So, it had to create an opportunity.
When Rayquaza's spinning form suddenly paused and straightened, Calyrex knew the moment had come.
It built a solid ice shield—leaving a "fatal flaw," a gap as bait.
At the same time, it quietly condensed countless ice crystals shaped just like Rayquaza's scales, hiding them behind the shield where even Rayquaza's sharp eyes wouldn't spot them.
If it were riding Spectrier, Calyrex would never risk such a move.
But with Glastrier's endurance and tricks, it was confident it could withstand Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent.
It was risky, but Calyrex had the resolve for a decisive blow.
Rayquaza, with keen perception, spotted the fatal flaw in the ice shield.
Perhaps overexcited, Rayquaza didn't hesitate; with a roar, it became a sky-blue streak, unleashing a terrifying shockwave and striking Calyrex like a sword.
Calyrex tightened the reins, psychic power surging, the world slowing before its eyes.
Perhaps on a whim, Calyrex conjured several psychic orbs and shot them into the void, adjusting its angle as if it had foreseen the future.
All this took less than two seconds in reality.
Rayquaza only saw Calyrex flicker strangely, its body darting past the ice shield's flaw. Dragon Ascent shattered the shield and poured its full power into Calyrex and Glastrier.
BOOM!
The violent explosion engulfed Calyrex and Glastrier. Spectrier, far off, stopped, looking worried.
Lucas, however, received a faint psychic message and stopped the eager Spectrier: "Calyrex has a plan."
Aside from the fake god battle with the three legendary birds, this was his first time witnessing a real god-tier fight.
With little experience, Lucas figured he should only offer crucial advice.
Too much interference might make things worse.
Spectrier could only build a psychic shield around itself and Lucas and watch as a mushroom cloud rose.
The explosion even shook the ground, tearing up the earth, smashing apart countless platforms Glastrier had created, and uprooting trees.
Luckily, the wild Pokémon had already fled due to the earlier battle, so only the environment was damaged—no casualties.
Moments later.
The explosion faded. Sensing Calyrex and Glastrier's weakened aura in the black mist, Rayquaza's face filled with pride.
So what if they had a type advantage? They'd still lost to its overwhelming strength.
But the next instant, Rayquaza sensed danger.
It looked up, realizing the threat came from above. Instantly, it gathered energy, unleashing a dragon-shaped blast into the sky.
At that moment, several psychic portals opened in the void. Psychic orbs, delayed, slammed down and collided head-on with Rayquaza's Dragon Pulse.
Future Sight!
This only made Rayquaza more irritable.
That big-headed guy—always with the tricks.
After handling the Future Sight, Rayquaza prepared to strike Calyrex again. But just as it did, Calyrex's psychic energy burst out, spreading rapidly.
In an instant, blue light waves rippled out, forming a grid-like Trick Room over several kilometers of sky.
Even Lucas, seeing this ridiculous scope for the first time, wondered if this was really Calyrex's first time using Trick Room.
Swallowed by the Trick Room, Rayquaza, noticing the battered Calyrex and Glastrier emerging from the smoke, scowled.
A trick?
What had that guy done!?
Rayquaza tried again, body straightening as sky-blue energy gathered for another Dragon Ascent.
But this time, Rayquaza noticed something wrong.
Within this square space, the rules seemed reversed. Under this strange power, its Dragon Ascent charged much slower.
Meanwhile, Calyrex had already conjured two spinning snow spears.
The spears shot at Rayquaza with impossible speed, appearing before it in a blink.
Feeling the bitter cold, Rayquaza's pupils shrank, utterly confused as to what had gone wrong.
Was it that strange move Calyrex had just used?
But Rayquaza had no time for answers.
The two snow spears exploded on its body, and in an instant, a blizzard stormed out from Rayquaza, freezing it rapidly.
As icy layers sealed it and its consciousness faded, Rayquaza was filled with unwillingness.
If only it had its Regenerator organ back... the result would be different!
Moments later.
The Rayquaza-shaped ice sculpture crashed to the scarred earth below.
A battle where both sides held absolute advantage in different fields had finally ended.
Calyrex closed its eyes, feeling the pain with Glastrier, then switched to Heal Pulse and Life Dew for recovery.
After a while, it murmured softly:
"Sky ruler surviving from ancient times, unlike you who fight alone, my power comes from bonds.
Even if you regain your former strength, even if you come again, with Lucas and Luxray grown stronger, we'll still defeat you.
But until then, we have no reason to meet again."
Gathering its psychic energy, Calyrex shattered the ice around Rayquaza. Before Rayquaza could react, it Teleported, distorting space.
By the time Rayquaza came to, it was already high above the ozone layer.
Below, even the familiar landscape had changed. For Rayquaza, who sometimes got lost and had to rely on luck or environmental changes to find its way, seeking revenge would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Realizing this, Rayquaza was so angry it wanted to curse.
Rayquaza flew higher, smashing a small meteorite with its tail and started to eat furiously.
Just wait for me—the horse-riding bighead, that human, and the little cat.
Once I recover, I'll be back for you!
…
Outside Los Platos Town
Lucas asked Calyrex again, worried: "Are you sure you're really okay?"
That was Rayquaza's Dragon Ascent!
Even though it had defeated Primal Kyogre and Groudon while Mega Evolved, Rayquaza's normal Dragon Ascent was still not to be taken lightly.
Busy restoring the land and replanting greenery, Calyrex just smiled gently and nodded: "I prepared the defense. It was only surface wounds, easily healed with my powers."
Dragon Ascent's power was terrifying, but with its turtle-shell defense ready, it had only left slightly worse wounds—nothing the healing powers of Life Dew and Heal Pulse couldn't fix.
Didn't you see Glastrier already bouncing around, bragging to Spectrier?
Glastrier: "I helped the king take down the flying green bug!"
Spectrier: "Whatever makes you happy."
