Chapter 91 - Chapter 91: G-g-g-ghost!

The old Supermarket Megacheap sits near Route 14 in Alola, close to the ruins of Tapu Village.

It was affected by Tapu Bulu's attack, which destroyed Tapu Village and forced the supermarket to move elsewhere. Now, only a ruined wasteland remains.

Under the night sky, the old supermarket looked no different from a horror movie set. According to Nanu, it was once a hotspot for adventurers and ghost enthusiasts.

But one day, everything changed.

Lucas stood outside the pitch-black supermarket, gazing into its black-hole-like darkness, feeling thoughtful. "Ghost rumors… nearly thirty police calls due to fright. It's creepy, but it's probably just Ghost-type Pokémon messing around."

He adjusted his cheap baseball cap, Mimikyu on his shoulder mimicking his movements, a paper-rolled pipe in its mouth. Lucas posed, "Kukui, stay outside. Leave this case to Detective—are you cold?"

He looked helplessly at Kukui, shivering from the nighttime chill, concern in his voice.

Kukui trembled, "It's fine… I'll start a fire to warm up. Are you sure you don't need help?"

"With Mimikyu with me, and you knowing its strength, I'll be fine."

"We'll solve the case tonight, then have five days left to meet Tapu Bulu."

With that, Lucas released Growlithe, who had a keen sense of smell, and, with Mimikyu on his shoulder, headed into the supermarket.

After another sneeze, Kukui zipped up his lab coat, anxiously watching the supermarket. "Strange, nights aren't usually this cold… Is Lucas really going to be okay?"

"And, is it just me, or has he become much more proactive lately?"

No one responded to Kukui's muttering. The supermarket, under the night sky, looked like a monster's gaping maw.

Growlithe sniffed the ground for any signs of danger, while Lucas' footsteps echoed loudly in the silence.

"Yeah, it's really run-down."

Lucas carefully avoided debris, not wanting to step on a loose stone and stab his foot on a hidden nail.

He poked Mimikyu (Detective version) who was sensing the surroundings, "How's it going?"

A shadowy claw emerged from under Mimikyu's disguise, showing five fingers.

Lucas nodded, "Fifty percent Ghost-type energy? So wild Ghost Pokémon are likely wandering here."

He thought for a moment. Wandering aimlessly wouldn't work, so he asked in his mind, "Any good stuff nearby? Point the way."

System:[You can search the warehouse deeper inside the supermarket.]

"The warehouse? That makes sense!"

He glanced around, soon spotting the old sign pointing to the warehouse. Calling Growlithe, he headed that way.

He knew he'd been a bit hyper lately, but didn't mind the feeling.

Previously, he would've waited for danger to come to him. Now, he wanted to find whatever was haunting the supermarket!

Two minutes later, Lucas stood before a tightly shut door, hands on hips, curious. "So this is the warehouse. Will a Gastly or Misdreavus jump out if I open it?"

The warehouse was deep inside the supermarket, surrounded by walls, with a single, battered door standing alone.

Just as he reached for the handle, Lucas saw a ghostly light flicker by the shelves to his right. Smiling, he pointed, "There—shadow attack!"

Growlithe barked in the same direction.

Mimikyu jumped from Lucas' shoulder, its shadowy form stretching out like a ghost, instantly reaching the shelves and dragging out several ghost.

Just as Lucas expected, a few Gastly, Haunter, and Misdreavus were pulled out by Mimikyu's shadow, looking at it in fear.

To them, Mimikyu was a far stronger ghost. After hesitating, the wild Ghost Pokémon, looking worried, decided to leave.

With such a strong ghost protecting him, that human should be fine, right?

From Lucas' perspective, the wild Ghost Pokémon fled after being caught by Mimikyu. So the ghosts scaring visitors were probably just these Pokémon.

Lucas waited for ten minutes to be sure they didn't return. Scratching his head, he said in surprise, "That was easy."

He thought he'd at least have to battle them—a good chance for Growlithe to get experience.

After a moment's thought, Lucas looked at the battered warehouse door behind him. He figured there'd be nothing left inside, but since he was here, he might as well check.

He opened the old wooden door—it creaked—and saw the warehouse's true form.

He froze.

"Huh?"

From the blank wall outside, he'd thought the warehouse was big. But inside, it was barely larger than a bathroom.

The walls were even more run-down, full of cracks, and unpainted.

A few blank picture frames hung on the walls, giving off an eerie vibe, leaving Lucas confused.

This place didn't look like a warehouse at all.

Growlithe sniffed for a while and found nothing, so it sat quietly at Lucas' feet.

When Lucas' gaze landed in the corner, he was surprised to see a familiar Pikachu plush. He checked—his own Mimikyu was still on his shoulder.

So where did that Mimikyu in the corner come from?

While Lucas was puzzled, the Mimikyu in the corner moved.

It crawled over to Lucas. He sensed that it was watching him, and, strangely, Lucas seemed to understand what it wanted to express, just as he did with Moltres.

The Mimikyu's message: "Look under its skirt?"
