Chapter 238: The Ynnari
"Sylandri, is this what you call success?"
Lemire could no longer suppress his emotions. He didn't even need the prophetic abilities of a Farseer; the Eldar had already learned of Guilliman's awakening. A massive number of astropathic messages had spread throughout the Imperium, and it was inevitable that some would be intercepted. Various Chaos factions knew, and so did the Eldar.
And now, the "successful deal" that Sylandri had told them about had suddenly become a joke.
Facing the enraged Lemire, Sylandri was silent. She wanted to retort but couldn't find any words. This was her first failure. It hadn't been long since she had met with Cawl, but everything indicated that he had already known everything when he was dealing with her. The entire transaction had been a fraud. The final result left Sylandri both ashamed and angry.
Cawl's actions were no different from toying with her. In the past, it had always been the Harlequins who manipulated others. When had it become others' turn to manipulate them?
And ever since the appearance of this special being, Lucan, the Harlequins' original plans to guide and interfere with the major events of the galaxy had undergone uncontrollable changes, and could even be called failures. The Harlequins had tried to get new revelations from the Laughing God, but had received no response.
No one in this world could truly see Lucan's future. They could only guess at the impact he might have on this world from other events. Tzeentch couldn't do it, let alone the Laughing God.
Sylandri thought about the terms of the deal she had proposed. In the other party's eyes, they were not even worth mentioning. They had already found a way to resurrect Guilliman on their own. She had once proudly told her companions that her plan had succeeded. But what was the result?
"Humanity has another piece on the board... Once they can really resolve the crisis at Cadia and that gene-primarch and that Rogue Trader have the spare capacity to reorganize the Imperium, do you think they won't make a move against the Eldar? This time, no matter what, our plan has completely failed. No matter who wins or loses, we Eldar will not gain any benefit. We really should consider how to deal with the coming crisis. This will affect the future and destiny of the Eldar!"
Hearing this, Sylandri, who had been silent for a long time, spoke again.
"At least our losses are not too great. The humans know the purpose of the blackstone, but they do not know how to activate it. And the runestone to open the Webway was only a one-time use item. The Webway is still our greatest asset!"
But as soon as she finished speaking, a trace of unease rose in her heart again. She had a bad premonition... They knew the purpose of the blackstone in advance, and they had obtained the method to awaken Guilliman in a way I do not know. Then, is it possible that they also know how to open the Webway? Even if there is only a one in a hundred million chance... Even though Sylandri kept denying it in her heart... according to Lemire's words, the other party had been on the northernmost frontier of the Imperium, and then had appeared on the easternmost edge. This speed of travel completely surpassed the normal interstellar travel speed of humanity. The more she thought about it, the more panicked she became.
Even that Cawl... the journey from the planet where she had traded with him to Macragge should have taken at least several dozen days by warp travel, but he had inexplicably arrived at his destination. Everything that had happened seemed to be confirming her own speculation. However, Sylandri had only guessed half right.
If the Eldar were to lose the Webway, then they would lose their most important means of survival.
Just as Sylandri was about to voice her thoughts, Lemire interrupted her.
"So what? Sylandri, we are the inheritors of the Old Ones' legacy. Only we know the routes and the method to open the Webway. But we do not know how to repair and expand it. After endless ages, the Webway is already in a state of disrepair. The safe areas are decreasing every day. Is there a shortage of other races wandering in the Webway? Not to mention the daemons that have appeared in the Webway due to the breaches. Those monkeys who believe in Chaos, those Chaos Sorcerers! Those filthy Orks have even begun to take root and reproduce in some parts of the Webway! And that gene-primarch that the humans call the Khan... those guys who ride their hoverbikes wantonly through the Webway... we still haven't been able to drive them out or kill them. He hunts every xenos he sees in the Webway.
"And that giant wolf, the gene-primarch that the humans call the Wolf King... he and his wolves have even used the damaged Webway as a temporary resting place. Sometimes, I can't even tell if the Webway belongs to us or to the other races. We know better than those monkeys that their gene-primarchs are still alive! They only left those monkeys because of disappointment or other reasons. Once they return to the human Imperium, do you know what that represents?! The Webway is no longer as safe as we thought. We cannot hide in it forever. Sooner or later, we will have to return to realspace. That is where we are meant to live."
Lemire's words confirmed that the direction Harald had once been searching for Leman Russ was correct. He had indeed appeared in the Webway. Leman Russ, who had charged into the warp, had once used the Webway as a place of rest.
Lemire sighed. What had happened had happened, and they had no power to change it. As he spoke, he looked at some of the other Eldar not far away. Among these Eldar were Craftworld Eldar, Dark Eldar warriors, Warlocks, and even some Exodites. Eldar of different affiliations were gathered together. There seemed to be no barriers between them. The Eldar, who should have been in conflict in the past, were now sitting together in harmony.
Their faith had changed. They now all believed in the great God of the Dead, Ynnead. Under Ynnead's protection, they had abandoned their original ways of protecting their souls. The Dark Eldar no longer needed to torture others to replenish their own souls, and the Craftworld and Exodite Eldar no longer needed to use the Infinity Circuit. The half-awakened Eldar God of the Dead protected them. Even if they died, their souls would no longer be taken by Slaanesh, but would return to Ynnead.
A group of Harlequins walked toward these Eldar, speaking to the female Eldar who was waiting for them. The power of Ynnead emanated from her body, and the red-armored Eldar beside her was known as the Visarch. They all held a Cronesword in their hands.
"Yvraine... could it be that they have a way to use the power of Ynnead? As far as I know! There is no other power in the galaxy that can reverse the life and death of a primarch..."
The power of the God of the Dead was indeed magical. It could even turn a Rubric Marine of the Thousand Sons, who had become a pile of dust, back into a body of flesh and blood. In the understanding of life and death, the God of the Dead, Ynnead, was truly unique.
It was Lemire who had found Yvraine and her Ynnari, who had originally planned to go and help Cawl resurrect Guilliman, and had stopped them. But before their next plan could begin, Guilliman had come back to life on his own.
Faced with the group of Harlequins who had helped them escape the encirclement of the master of Commorragh, Vect, Yvraine did not refuse. She knew that these Harlequins had been secretly assisting her from behind the scenes. But she had not expected to witness an argument between the Harlequins after coming here. This lowered her opinion of them a little. It turned out that the Harlequins were not as in control of everything as they claimed.
"Lemire, that is impossible. Ynnead would not favor humans. He has given me the power to act as His divine will in the mortal world. The humans must have used a method we do not know. Even I must use the Cronesword in my hand to accomplish all this. Four of the five Croneswords are in our hands, and it is impossible for the humans to know the true purpose of this thing."
