Chapter 191: Power Overwhelming
When the Blood Ravens' forces arrived on the battlefield, for a moment, they forgot to attack the Eldar.
The Templar were locked in a deadly melee with the Wraithguard. Elite Eldar Aspect Warriors weaved across the battlefield, countering the Protoss's attack. The roar of the Immortals' heavy cannons was drowned out by the sounds of shouting and screaming. And the Eldar Farseers and Warlocks were unleashing their psychic powers without reservation.
But the destructive force that should have been able to destroy an entire army was being held back by a single being.
In the center of the battlefield, a humanoid creature formed of pure psychic energy was rampaging. It had no facial features, but one could feel its滔天-like rage. A special golden armor bound the souls of the two High Templar, also providing it with a vessel in the material world. Occasionally, a crackling sound like lightning could be heard from it—the echo of a massive collision of psionic energy and the remnants of the two High Templar's souls. Every second of the Archon's existence was consuming the soul-force of these two Protoss.
The Archon raised its arm, which was woven from lightning. A heart-pounding psychic energy gathered in its hand, forming a destructive force.
"Power Overwhelming~"
The Archon's roar was deafening. The psionic lightning condensed in its hand swept across a large swath of Eldar before it. Any being of flesh and blood seemed so frail in its presence. The psionic shockwave disintegrated the bodies of those it hit at the cellular level. The wraithbone of the Wraithguard could not withstand the massive amount of psychic energy and shattered.
The Archon's attack cleared out a large area, and the Templar covered Artanis's advance.
The Dynasty's fleet in the void did not know what was happening inside the Craftworld. The Raiders were locked in a bloody battle with the Eldar ground forces, ensuring that Artanis and the others had no worries from their rear. And the battle between the fleets in the void had never ceased.
Lucan felt a massive amount of psychic energy from his Sarr-Naga projection being drawn by the Archon. Lucan's psionic energy made the Archon's combat power much stronger than in the cinematics. The psionic energy from his warp projection was supporting the Archon's combat and defense. The shield on the Archon alone had become incredibly resilient, withstanding a large amount of Eldar shooting and psychic spells without breaking.
But the Archon's drawbacks were also terrifyingly obvious. In the game, you could produce these High Templar indefinitely as long as you had the resources. But here, they required the souls of Farseers. How many Farseers were there in a single Craftworld? And their status in the Craftworld meant that unless you destroyed the entire Craftworld, there was very little chance of killing them.
Furthermore, the Archon could not exist indefinitely. Lucan sensed the strength of the Archon's souls. The more psychic energy it used, the faster the souls of the two High Templar were consumed. Lucan knew that this Archon had at most 15 minutes left before it would be completely annihilated.
If there was any other place to find the soul stones of such Farseers besides a Craftworld, it would be on the Crone Worlds, or in the ruined cities of the former Eldar Empire within the Webway. But both the Crone Worlds and those ruined cities in the Webway were terrifyingly dangerous. Who knew what you would encounter inside. And the former were almost synonymous with daemon worlds. Even the Eldar, who could traverse the Webway, did not dare to easily set foot in these places.
"Chapter Master! Could this be related to the modification technology Lord Lucan used on us?" Jonah speculated. "Although we were all unconscious during the modification, if it is as he said, and this race called the Protoss is completely under his control, then modifying us would indeed be a trivial matter for him... No wonder our resistance to the negative psychic energies of the warp is so high now. The purity of this psychic being before us is unimaginable."
Hearing Jonah's words, Gabriel also nodded. It was indeed the truth. To be able to create such a psychic being and purify all the negative effects within it... the little bit of uncontrolled psychic energy in their own Librarians was indeed not worth mentioning.
Lucan had not expected that the Blood Ravens would come up with their own reasonable explanation for the enhancement he had given them.
"Blood Ravens! Assist these Protoss! Kill all those xenos!"
The forceful intervention of the Blood Ravens made the Protoss's advance even faster. The sacred Dreadnought pushed toward the most densely packed area of Eldar. The flames of jump packs ignited from the backs of the Blood Ravens, and one kill-team after another smashed into the enemy's formation. And the psychic powers of the Librarians also turned the wraithbone-constructed Wraithguard into a pile of fragments.
When they were truly fighting side-by-side, Gabriel finally witnessed the power of these Protoss. In all his campaigns with the Chapter, they had killed and completely exterminated no small number of xenos, but he had truly never seen any with individual combat strength and skill comparable to the Protoss. And this was just the tip of the iceberg of what Gabriel had seen of the Protoss. Things like the Colossus, Carrier, and Mothership had not even been built yet.
Elara watched all this in grief and anger. Heaven knew where this powerful psychic being had come from. Just like a Titan, once such a thing joined the battlefield, the strength of an individual seemed so insignificant before it. The psychic powers she was so proud of could not even break through the psychic shield on the other party.
Just as Elara was in despair, the ceiling of this great hall suddenly began to show countless cracks. The wraithbone was slowly melting. As a beam from a wraithcannon broke through the ceiling, countless pieces of debris fell. Whether Protoss, Eldar, or Blood Raven, many were completely buried under the massive rubble.
A Wraithknight leaped down from the ceiling. Sensing the danger facing the Infinity Circuit, it could no longer be bothered with whether its actions would inadvertently damage it. It forcibly carved a path to the Infinity Circuit from the ground with the weapons in its hands.
The Archon's shockwave hit the Wraithknight's scattershield. The attack, which was exceptionally effective against flesh and blood, seemed no longer so powerful against this special shield. And the great ghostglaive swung by the Wraithknight struck the Archon heavily. The special golden armor dented, and it was even knocked to the ground.
"Ancestors of Kholor, great heroes, I beg you to kill these enemies who know only destruction and slaughter for the sake of your kin on Kholor!" Elara roared. The soul stone of the former Eldar hero of Kholor seemed to have heard her call. After repelling the Archon, the Wraithknight set its sights on Artanis.
Artanis, who was still charging, also sensed the gaze of this Wraithknight.
Just as the Wraithknight was about to bring its weapon down to finish Artanis off, the fallen Archon had already climbed back up. The already fading souls decided to make one last counterattack to clear the final obstacle for Artanis.
The Archon no longer used a psychic shockwave but instead grabbed the Wraithknight in a bear hug. As the Archon's "eyes" grew brighter and brighter, the psychic energy within its body began to run wild. The Archon had completely released its control and restraint over its psychic energy. A psionic vortex with an irresistible suction force, with the Archon at its center, devoured everything around it.
The pilots inside the Wraithknight wailed in despair but could not break free from the Archon's grasp.
As the vortex continuously collapsed inward, completely devouring the Archon and the Wraithknight, it was as if the two had never appeared in this world.
A large amount of psionic ash began to float down around them.
