When Rhydian removed his hand, my hands instinctively flew to my ears… they were round… my pointed ears are gone.
"Let's keep walking before the barrier closes." He smiled at me.
I returned his smile. But I felt dumb. 'How could I have forgotten about hiding my ears?'
Damon glanced at me but he didn't utter any words.
After we had crossed the barrier. The trees around us swayed unnaturally, even though there was no wind.
Then, something invisible rushed past us.
I gasped quietly. Damon's hand immediately found my wrist, steadying me.
The shimmer rippled again, and that's when two shadowy figures stepped out of thin air. Their golden eyes glowed faintly.
They had no weapons and didn't wear any armor. They wore long cloaks that swept across the floor, their hoods casting shadows over their faces.
They didn't speak, their eyes fixated on me.
