For Leonard, it was just another ordinary day. The only thing that stood out was the surprising news that a new colleague had rapidly advanced to become an Beyonder, but otherwise, nothing seemed different from usual.
At least, that's what Leonard thought until he got home.
"Someone's here."
As Leonard unlocked his door with practiced ease, before he could even step inside, he suddenly heard Pallez, who was usually silent, speak up with a warning.
Instantly, Leonard's lazy demeanor vanished, replaced by sharp alertness. He looked into the house and saw a figure seated on the living room sofa, seemingly having appeared out of nowhere.
It was a man in his early twenties with strikingly handsome features. Noticing the sound at the door, the man looked up, his emerald-like eyes meeting Leonard's with a faint smile.
Who is this?
Leonard's guard went up, his mind racing with confusion. He was certain he'd never met this young man before. Where had he come from?
"Who are you, sir? Breaking into someone's home without permission isn't exactly polite," Leonard said, his tone cautious as he studied the young man, ready to act or retreat at a moment's notice.
"My apologies for the unannounced visit. It was indeed presumptuous of me, but I had my reasons," Evah said, offering a slightly apologetic smile. Looking at the wary Leonard, he paused, then added, "After all, Mr. Leonard, you wouldn't want me visiting you at Blackthorn Security Company and publicly discussing the old gentleman residing within you, would you?"
Leonard's pupils constricted at those words. Pallez's existence was his greatest secret. Though Leonard himself remained cautious of Pallez, he had never revealed the old man's presence to anyone. To have a stranger casually expose this secret left him utterly shaken.
If Leonard were a small animal, his fur would be standing on end right now.
Evah gave a faint smile. "So, can we talk now, Mr. Leonard?"
"You…" Leonard frowned, clearly hesitant. At that moment, he heard Pallez's voice in his ear.
"You can talk to him."
"Old man, you know him? What's going on?" Leonard immediately pressed, but this time, he got no response.
Disappointed but no longer dwelling on it, Leonard gave Evah a long look before stepping inside and sitting on the sofa opposite him.
"No need to be so tense. This is your home," Evah said, amused, noticing Leonard's visibly stiff posture.
"Thank you for the reminder, sir," Leonard said through gritted teeth. Unable to hold back, he lowered his voice and muttered, "Old man, don't play dead. What's going on here?"
"I'm not sure. His aura feels familiar," Pallez finally responded, his tone uncertain. "It's a bit like… one of my descendants."
But before Pallez could finish, he saw the young man on the opposite sofa leisurely pull a monocle from his pocket and deliberately place it over his left eye.
Pallez: …
Sorry, my mistake.
Pallez, who had stayed because of the familiar bloodline aura and a desire to understand how this person had found him and what his intentions were, froze in that moment. His spiritual form stiffened.
If his inner thoughts could be visualized, Pallez's mind would resemble a screaming groundhog meme.
But Pallez was quick to recover. After a brief mental short-circuit, he realized something crucial: the monocle was on the wrong eye.
Amon's monocle was worn on the right eye, but this young man had placed his on the left.
More importantly, if Amon had truly discovered Pallez's presence, this entire area would already be sealed, and danger would have descended. Yet Pallez sensed no threat whatsoever.
In less than a second, Pallez concluded one thing: this kid was deliberately messing with him.
Pallez: …
His fists clenched, itching to discipline this cheeky brat.
"Old man, old man, what's wrong? Why aren't you talking again?" Leonard, sensing something off, pressed urgently.
"Shut up, I'm fine," Pallez snapped irritably. Then, with some unknown action, a blurry shadow formed beside Leonard. The shadow spoke, "I assume you didn't come here just to scare me, did you?"
Leonard's eyes widened. He'd clearly never seen Pallez do this before.
Evah, meanwhile, looked at the shadow Pallez with interest, then asked with a deliberately cheeky tone, "If I said I did, would you hit me?"
Why did Evah pull such a stunt? The answer was simple. On one hand, he couldn't resist the urge to stir up some trouble. After all, what Fun-seeker transmigrated to the Lord of Mysteries world wouldn't want to mess with Pallez?
On the other hand, it was to digest his
Mischief-maker potion.
And the prank proved highly effective. Just startling Pallez digested about a third of the potion. If it were a typical Sequence 9 potion, it might have melted away instantly.
But it didn't fully digest. Is it because it wasn't chaotic enough, or is Pallez's condition really that bad? Evah mused, maintaining a cheeky grin on his face.
"Hmph!" Pallez let out a cold scoff, retorting, "What do you think?"
"I think you would," Evav said, sensing that the old man might actually be ready to throw hands. Not wanting to push further, he swiftly pulled out an ornate iron box with lightning speed.
Evah slid the box toward Pallez and said, "Ancestor Pallez, I'm actually here to reconnect with family and bring you a gift. This is my greeting present."
"Reconnect with family?" Before Pallez could respond, Leonard blurted out in surprise. He looked between Luo Lin and the shadow Pallez, then seemed to realize something. "Right, the old man said you're his descendant…"
"Are you really my descendant?" Pallez could sense the Zoroast family bloodline in Evah, which only deepened his suspicion.
After all, Pallez couldn't fathom how the nearly extinct Zoroast family, with its bloodline almost entirely faded, could produce someone like this.
"My name is Evah Zoroast. In terms of bloodline, I am indeed a descendant of the Zoroast family and your descendant, Ancestor Pallez," Evah said openly, giving the shadow Pallez a glance. "Won't you take a look at my gift, Ancestor?"
