Chapter 7 - The visit

Selene~

"You bit me," I said from behind the door.

"Selene, please. Let me in." He said from the other side of the door.

"No. Leave me alone."

I had been discharged from the hospital like a normal person who fainted from coming in contact with glass not because someone decided to snack on my neck like a blood flavored popsicle. Cassidy handed me the script to practice once we left the hospital and shooting was to start in a few days but I'd been trying to find ways to get out of the project without letting anyone suspect anything but then again, I couldn't just walk up to anyone and tell them I wanted to leave. All of a sudden.

At least, Christopher was convinced that I didn't remember anything. Maybe he'd just told his fanged psycho brother that I was a delicate idiot with goldfish memory.

That was what I thought until I heard a knock on my door, and when I opened it, it was no one other than Christopher fucking Hart. I didn't think twice before closing the door and locking it but now he was demanding to let him in.

"What the fuck are you? Why have you been following me?"

"I've not been following you. I just drop by the cafe to see how you're doing."

"Yeah, every single fucking day, you piece of shit."

I really had a death wish. The door was pretty old, it would not take a lot of strength to push it down, strength that I was sure he possessed.

"Also, who orders the same fucking thing all the time? No normal human does that."

"Because I'm not a…" he groaned. "I like consistency."

"Yeah, like murderers do."

He groaned again. "Selene, I'm not trying to kill you. Just open the door so we can talk, please."

"Oh wow. How generous of you." I rolled my eyes. "Hey babe, I'm not here to kill you, just to casually drink your blood and then gaslight you about it later."

"Oh, so you do remember?"

Shit.

I didn't say anything.

"You're being unreasonable."

Unreasonable? Me?

"You literally grew fangs and decided to have me as appetizer, now, you managed to stalk me and get my address and I'm the unreasonable one?"

I heard him mutter a prayer.

Did monsters even believe in religion?

"Please, open the door."

That sounded like a threat. I didn't like that.

"Does garlic work against you?"

"I'm not a freaking vampire."

"Then what are you?" I yelled.

We were being loud, way too loud.

"I promise, I'm not going to bite you. Please, just open the door and hear me out."

"You're not going to bite me?" I asked cautiously.

"No."

"Are you lying?"

"…No?"

He hesitated.

"Wow, real convincing. I'm gonna call the police and I think you'll need a better tone than that if you want to be convincing in a courtroom."

"I am in a courtroom, it's called your apartment hallway and so far, I'm losing this trial."

"You should be. You bit the judge."

I could hear his tired groaning from behind the door. It sounded like he was pacing around in circles out of frustration.

"Selene, please." He begged. "I promise you, I'm not trying to kill you. Please, just let me in. You're in danger."

Sure, I was. Some animal in human clothing was just on the other side of the door.

"Tie your mouth up before you come in." I said.

"How am I supposed to talk to you?"

Silence.

"Selene, for the love of all sweet things, I'm not going to bite you."

All things sweet? Like my blood?

Ah, fuck it.

I unlocked the door and opened it.

He heaved a sigh of relief, or at least, that was what it looked like. "Thank you."

He walked in. Didn't he need to be invited in or some vampire shit like that?

"Don't turn me into a vampire." I said as he closed the door behind him. He turned to me, his eye was twitching.

"I am not a vampire." He huffed.

"That's what every supernatural serial killer says. I don't want to end up sprouting fangs and eating raccoons."

"What the…?" He raised an eyebrow. "I don't eat racoons."

I gave him a look.

"I eat squirrels."

I blinked. "What?"

"I was joking, Selene. God, please give me strength. I eat normal food, you've literally seen me eat."

"What kind of guy says literally?"

He groaned and collapsed onto my bed. If I didn't know any better, I'd say I was frustrating him but that wasn't even remotely possible.

"Vampire quiz."

"I'm not a vampire!" He muffled against my pillow.

"Why don't you sparkle in the sun?"

"Not a vampire."

"Wrong answer. Everyone knows real vampires sparkle in the sun."

"That's from Twilight! That's not the real lore."

"How do you know if you're not a vampire?"

He groaned.

"Can we skip to the reason I'm here? You're in danger."

"You are the danger." I scoffed.

"Really? Are you sure about that?"

I nodded.

"Then why are you not running from me the same way you ran for my brother two nights ago."

"Don't threaten me, I will spray holy water on you."

"You're fucking crazy."

Christopher sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "Look, I'm really here to help you. You're in danger."

"What kind of danger?"

He sighed, again. "My brother has his eyes on you."

"I'm aware. I'm going to leave the project."

"You can't do that. They'll just kill you even faster."

"Great. So now, what do I do?"

"I can protect you." He said and took a few steps closer to me.

"You want me to trust you." I said.

He nodded. "I'll keep you safe."

"What in the world are you people?" I asked, trying to keep my voice from breaking.

"We're wolves, not vampires."

"Oh, that's comforting." I smiled and went to my bed to sit at its edge. "So you're going to babysit me to keep your psycho brother from getting to me?"

"That's the plan."

"Why me?" I laughed bitterly.

He didn't say anything. This sucked. This was supposed to be my comeback, a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I almost died before I managed to actually get the opportunity.

"He wasn't going to kill you yesterday, in case you were wondering." He said. "He's not like me, he can't erase the memories of people he bites and honestly, it doesn't suit him."

"Was that why…?"

"I realized that you didn't lose your memory when you touched your neck and stared at me so intensely in the hospital. I'm sorry for biting you."

"So, what exactly was his plan?"

"I'm not sure," he admitted. "Knowing my brother, he probably just wanted the chase, he has a weird obsession with people fearing him."

"What's going to happen to me now?"

"Nothing, you're under my protection."

I closed my eyes. "I'm not going to sleep with you. I am much more than that tape so if that's your catch…"

"There is no catch." He said calmly.

Why'd I think like that? Not everyone was Luca.

Luca, Luca, Luca…

There was a knock on the door.

"Shit," I muttered as I trudged towards the door and opened it.

"Hey, babe. Here to make you feel better." Chad greeted as soon as the door opened. He moved past me, into the room and halted when he spotted Christopher.

I closed the door and Chad turned back to look at me, as if demanding an explanation. Well, I had none to give him. It was not like I could just casually tell him that I was being haunted by werewolves.

I didn't want to and I wasn't going to.

"You got company already, huh?" Chad said, sounding more hostile than I'd imagined.

"Yeah." I answered.

Chad pursed his lips as he looked between Christopher and me. "Since when do you invite strangers to your house without a warning?"

I glanced at Christopher who was looking at us with a smile on his face.

"You fucking him?"

"Chad!"

"Are you fucking him, Selene?" Chad asked again.

I shook my head. "Is that all you think of me, Chad?"

"I see the way you two look at each other. You think I didn't notice when you flirt all around the shop? Hmm? And now that you got that movie deal, you think you can leave me and hit it with a huge movie star."

"We weren't exactly exclusive, Chad."

I could've said anything else in the world but I chose to go with that.

"Oh, sure. Jump on everyone's bed the smallest chance you get. I knew you were an attention whore but I didn't know it would be this bad. No wonder that tape was released."

"Hey, whoa." Christopher jumped from the bed and tried to cut in.

Chad scoffed.

"We're not in that kind of relationship." Christopher said.

"Save your breath, movie star. She'll move on from you quickly enough."

Chad looked at me, "Move, hoe," and left my apartment, leaving me speechless and Christopher in an awkward situation.

That tape. That damned tape.
