Chapter 164 - Chapter 164

nteresting

Pandora watched as the semi-finals began. Personally, she thought it should have been her future husband on the stage, tearing through contestants with all the skill and power she knew he possessed. None of the brats here were worthy of his time and attention, and she could have shown him just how they were meant to be together on an evening out that he would have undoubtedly won.

But there would be time for such things once the Lycan issue was resolved or in the following year. They still had plenty of time. What irked her more was his offer. Surely, he knew a date with him was worth more than a petty evening on the Minister's coin.

If he wanted something fancy all he had to do was ask her, she would have gladly shown him just what it meant to be pampered by a member of high society.

She watched as her cousin defeated one of her more talented rivals, then she noticed her reaction. The usual superiority vibes were missing, the gloating and smirking so defining in the other Slytherin replaced by something a bit more conservative.

Then she saw Delphini glance into the stands and knew without even following the gaze who held her attention.

What sort of wife would she be if she weren't aware of where her husband was at all times, and whose attention he held sway over?

Would Delphini win? Possible, the other heiress was talented in dueling after all, but the more interesting question was would she take up Harry's offer? Logically there was no reason to. Even with Harry being the most talented wizard at Hogwarts and being near flawless Delphini would never date him.

The heiress Black never dated.

Their line continuance was set up by their mother, picked for good genes and assurances that there would be no interference in raising of a child. Delphini would never marry a man, even if her mother did allow it for some unknown reason.

Pride always was a downfall in the 'main line', pride which led to a lonely existence focused solely on political agenda and 'the good of the family'.

It was yet another reason Pandora was secretly thankful she was a Malfoy instead. It gave her far more freedom over her own fates.

Still, Delphini's attention was scattered, even if it didn't appear as such.

Interesting.

Grace Riddle wasn't quite sure how she felt about the situation as Delphini Black's assault on the other finalist grew increasingly intense. On one hand the heiress was an excellent duelist, and if she had to choose a student with the best combat abilities it would likely be her, apart from Harry of course. That said she also didn't like the idea of the pampered rich brat watching her protege's back should something happen. The Black family wasn't exactly known for its loyalty and bravery in combat.

Skill and finesse? Most certainly, but willingness to protect others, definitely not.

Still, it was out of her hands, and she could only pray that between Aurors and Lupin any attackers would be scared off and neither child would fight.

The seventh year hit the floor with a resounding thud and Riddle stepped forward immediately to ascertain that yes, the younger witch had won.

Turning, she noted the odd lack of pride in the victor's eyes and stance. Still, she raised the girl's arm up, "Winner and champion, Delphini Black."

Polite applause emanated from the rest of the room because it had been expected to an extent and no one liked to lose.

Even Harry was clapping and returned her gaze when she met his eyes.

His expression was confident, while the professor had no doubt her own was concerned.

"I've bought you another window of opportunity." The woman noted, voice heavy with disdain and irritation. "This time I expect results. I've spent enough time and resources on this already to have nothing to show for it but a bunch of moping mutts and their pitifully wounded egos."

Greyback snarled as she took a step forward, earning a 'tsk' of disapproval from the shadowed woman. "There will be no problems or interruptions this time. I guarantee it."

"You'd better. The Aurors will be occupied along with any so-called 'escorts' the two might have. I trust you will be able to handle two teenagers regardless of their so-called skill level. One of them is even a boy so all the easier."

The Lycan wrinkled her nose, "As I said, there will be no problems."
