Chapter 18 Wang Dong Hits a Wall Again and Again

After dinner, Lin Shuang accompanied Jiang Nannan for a walk around the street. Along the way, he bought some daily necessities he hadn't prepared earlier and then returned to the dormitory.

Pushing open the door, Lin Shuang took out the things he bought from the soul guide and placed them one by one.

As if sensing something, Lin Shuang turned his head.

Her light pink eyes quickly shifted away like a startled rabbit. Wang Dongvwas sitting there, staring at a book in her hands as if nothing had happened. Lin Shuang frowned slightly, not understanding what Wang Dong was doing.

"Is there something wrong?"

"Huh?!" Startled by Lin Shuang's voice, Wang Dong suddenly raised her head and smiled.

"No, nothing."

Lin Shuang could guarantee his feeling was absolutely correct.

But he didn't press further.

She was just a little girl, and it wasn't worth the trouble.

Seeing Lin Shuang go back to doing his own thing, Wang Dong's cheeks puffed slightly.

She felt like she had been ignored again.

Lin Shuang's cold attitude stirred the rebellious spirit of the little princess of the Tang Sect.

She closed the book in her hand, walked over to Lin Shuang, and asked casually, "Is that blonde senior sister your girlfriend?"

Lin Shuang, who was unpacking books from his soul guide, froze. He hadn't expected Wang Dong to ask that.

It seemed likely she had seen him talking to Jiang Nannan and Tang Ya downstairs.

That was exactly it.

Wang Dong wasn't deliberately spying. She had just happened to see them while going downstairs to eat.

As for why she asked about Jiang Nannan and not Tang Ya, the reason was simple.

Women had sharp instincts.

Wang Dong could tell the cheerful black-haired senior was likely a new friend of Lin Shuang's. But the blonde senior? She and Lin Shuang had clearly known each other for a while.

And they definitely weren't "just friends." That look they exchanged wasn't normal—it wasn't how friends usually looked at each other.

"No. She's a sister I've known for a long time."

And it was true. Although his relationship with Jiang Nannan was a little subtle, it was far from reaching the level of boyfriend and girlfriend.

It seemed like the blonde senior sister had a one-sided affection.

Wang Dong didn't know why, but when she heard Lin Shuang say he and Jiang Nannan weren't together, she actually felt a small sense of joy.

Though perhaps even she didn't realize this feeling herself.

Lin Shuang glanced at the blue-and-pink-haired girl dressed as a boy, his expression slightly strange. "Why are you asking this?"

Wang Dong paused, suddenly flustered.

"No, nothing, just curious."

After looking at her suspiciously for a moment, Lin Shuang didn't ask any more questions and continued organizing his books.

Maybe she was just being nosy.

The little princess of the Tang Sect was a girl after all. A little gossip was understandable.

Seeing that Lin Shuang only exchanged a few words with her before going back to his own business, Wang Dong couldn't help but feel a bit depressed.

Was she that unattractive?

If Lin Shuang knew what she was thinking, he would've rolled his eyes.

Come on, sister—don't you know you're dressed as a boy?

If he found her attractive in this situation, wouldn't there be something wrong with him?

Maybe out of sheer rebellion, Wang Dong moved over curiously to see what book had caught Lin Shuang's attention.

"Soul Guidance Fundamentals, Soul Guidance Matrix Principles…"

Wang Dong blinked, confused.

"You're interested in soul guides?"

In her opinion, very few Shrek Academy students cared about soul guides.

"A little."

Lin Shuang didn't dislike soul guides, but he wasn't especially passionate either. He mostly studied them in his free time, still focusing primarily on martial training.

His interest in soul guides stemmed from an idea.

He felt their potential went far beyond current expectations.

Huo Yuhao's usage of soul guides during the war in the God Realm in the original story was clear proof of that.

Lin Shuang wanted to see if he could realize some of the ideas in his mind.

As a transmigrator, he had many creative ideas about technology.

"Hmph~" Wang Dong puffed out her cheeks.

She had nothing to say about soul guides.

She didn't know why, but she simply couldn't bring herself to like them.

It was like some instinct deep inside rejected them.

"Anything else? If not, I'm going to keep reading."

Lin Shuang picked up a book on advanced soul guide matrix theory and lowered his head to study.

Wang Dong's blue-pink eyes widened.

He was ignoring her again?

She was so annoyed her teeth itched. After being snubbed multiple times, she was too embarrassed to keep pushing the conversation.

She sulked back to bed and simply closed her eyes to meditate.

Just the sight of Lin Shuang's face made her frustrated now.

Lin Shuang had no clue about Wang Dong's inexplicable little tantrum. At the moment, he was fully absorbed in his sea of knowledge.

He had to admit, this stuff was actually pretty fascinating—much more so than the dull human biology he'd studied in college in his past life.

The rest of the night passed in silence.

...

At dawn, a beam of sunlight shone through the window, drawing a sharp white line across the floor.

"Mmm~" Wang Dong stirred under her quilt, annoyed by the brightness, and pulled the blanket over her head to keep sleeping.

Lin Shuang had already changed and was preparing to wash up.

Noticing the lump under the covers out of the corner of his eye, he sighed and walked over, lightly tapping the bed.

"Get up. We have class today."

He had already seen the class assignment results posted on the bulletin board yesterday.

Because of his presence in this world and the changes it brought, Wang Dong had not been assigned to Freshman Class One like in the original story—the strict Zhou Yi class known for expelling students. Instead, she was placed in Freshman Class Nine with him.

Since they were both roommates and classmates, Lin Shuang figured he should remind her.

"Class… class?" came a sleepy, confused voice from under the blanket.

Then suddenly—

"Ah! Class is starting!"

Wang Dong shot up, finally realizing what was going on.

In her panic, her shirt lifted slightly, exposing the smooth curve of her waist—almost blinding in its fairness.

Lin Shuang quickly looked away.

He wasn't stupid enough to stare at another girl like some pig.

Even if Wang Dong was currently dressed as a boy, Lin Shuang knew the truth. Only a pervert would pretend not to know just to take advantage.

Carrying his mouthwash cup, he headed into the bathroom.

Not long after, Wang Dong followed with her toothbrush and quilt.

Through the mirror, Lin Shuang got a clear look at her.

Her soft blue hair was a complete mess, sticking out in all directions like a chicken coop—surprisingly comical.

Noticing the corners of Lin Shuang's mouth subtly lift, Wang Dong blinked, not understanding what he was smiling at.

Then she saw herself in the mirror.

Utter mortification hit her.

"I have no face left…"
