Lily felt a burning pain on her face, half of it numb.
When she covered her face and looked at the person who had hit her, she was shocked to find that it was Jeffrey, Rachel's boyfriend, whom she had seen before.
"You… you hit me?" Lily stammered.
"What? Am I not allowed to hit you?" Jeffrey replied with a twisted smile, his deep eyes filled with unusual anger.
"I-I was trying to help you. You don't know that Rachel and Garrett Vincent… they…" Lily struggled to speak through the pain, but before she could finish, another hard slap landed across her face.
In an instant, both of Lily's cheeks were red and swollen. She could even taste blood in her mouth, a clear sign of how hard those slaps had been.
But what terrified her more was the murderous look in Jeffrey's eyes, as if he could kill her at any moment!
She thought to herself, He's just Rachel's boyfriend, not some big shot. Why should I be afraid?
