Chapter 289 - Chapter 289: Those Who Act Cutesy Have the Best Fate

The next day, Kawaki woke from his sleep and slightly moved his numb arm.

His eyes hadn't fully opened yet, and his mind was still groggy.

Perhaps the slight movement woke Tsunade, who murmured softly and began to stir.

"Good morning!"

Kawaki greeted her.

"Time to head to work."

Tsunade rubbed her eyes and looked at the sunlight filtering through the curtains.

"Yeah, it's about time."

Kawaki squinted and glanced toward the window as well.

"Honey... I just don't want to get up."

Tsunade turned over and wrapped her arms around Kawaki, closing her eyes again.

"Then let's rest a little longer."

Kawaki didn't mind—he didn't have anything urgent to do anyway.

"No, we can't keep leaving Shouta alone for too long."

Tsunade refused Kawaki's suggestion.

"Why don't you take my shift today instead?"

Suddenly, an idea seemed to strike her. She quickly sat upright, eyes wide open, staring intensely at Kawaki.

"Absolutely not."

Kawaki firmly shook his head. Let whoever wants to be Hokage take the job—he sure wasn't doing it.

"Honey… Come on, honey."

"I'm pregnant with our baby now. Lack of proper sleep affects the baby's development."

"Plus, I'm not feeling quite right today."

"Just for one day. Please go?"

"Pleeease?"

Tsunade suddenly sounded unusually soft and vulnerable—almost hard to believe.

She clung to Kawaki's arm, gently rocking back and forth on the bed.

Still completely naked, the soft contact was almost too much for Kawaki to handle.

"Alright, alright—I'll go."

Kawaki gave in impulsively, figuring a single day wouldn't be that bad.

"You're amazing."

Tsunade rewarded Kawaki with a kiss.

"Mmghh~"

Kawaki sat up and stretched widely.

"Thank you, sweetie. I'll wait right here for you."

Tsunade gave him a flirtatious glance, completely wrapping Kawaki around her finger.

"Okay then, you keep resting."

"I'll get up now."

Kawaki threw off the covers, got out of bed, and walked completely naked to the wardrobe to grab some clothes.

Soon, dressed and ready, Kawaki returned to the bedside.

"Mwah~"

"See you later."

He gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead.

"Alright, see you later."

Tsunade's eyes were wide open now, clearly no trace of sleepiness left.

Kawaki exited the room, finished washing up, and came to the dining room.

Everyone was already eating breakfast, and they looked a little surprised to see Kawaki.

Usually, Tsunade would wake up first.

"She didn't rest well last night—I'll cover for her today."

Kawaki noticed their looks and explained preemptively.

"Not bad—you're finally learning to think of others."

Natsuki smiled, handing a steamed bun to Sakumo.

"Just try not to screw anything up while you're at it."

Sakumo wasn't doubting Kawaki's ability—just giving a kind reminder.

"Got it."

Kawaki shrugged nonchalantly, sat down, and began eating breakfast.

"We're all set."

Minato and the others waved goodbye and left first—it would've looked odd if they'd stayed behind with Sakumo.

Kawaki took his time finishing his meal, and soon, the dining hall was empty except for him.

Without Tsunade beside him and wanting to save time, he used the [Flying Thunder God] technique directly to the Hokage's office.

Shouta had already arrived and was handling official paperwork.

"Good morning, Shouta."

Kawaki greeted him enthusiastically and casually took Tsunade's seat.

"Good morning, Lord Kawaki."

Shouta replied, slightly puzzled but didn't ask anything.

"Tsunade has something to do today, so I'm filling in for one day."

Kawaki explained briefly.

"Oh, I see."

Shouta nodded in understanding. To him, it made little difference.

He'd already decided to get a little revenge by messing with Kawaki.

After sitting down, Kawaki started focusing on processing paperwork seriously. He couldn't afford to make mistakes, especially since he was only filling in for a single day.

As time passed, he noticed that Shouta kept coming over way too often.

It was incredibly annoying!!

"Shouta, can't you just bring them all together?"

Kawaki let out a helpless sigh, his train of thought constantly getting interrupted.

"Oh sorry, my bad."

"I'll be more careful."

Shouta put on an apologetic look, while secretly delighted inside.

Looks like you finally got what was coming to you, huh?

"Just leave it here."

Kawaki pointed at an empty space on the table.

"Sure thing, Lord Kawaki."

Shouta placed the documents and cheerfully returned to his seat.

His mood had lifted considerably—he felt fantastic.

After Kawaki spoke, Shouta did become somewhat more restrained.

He couldn't be too obvious about it either—that wouldn't match his image as a clever guy.

While they were both buried in work inside the office, Tsunade had just slowly gotten out of bed.

She'd taken another nap and now felt refreshed and energized.

After washing up, she went to the dining room where she happened to meet Natsuki bringing snacks for Kakashi.

"Sister-in-law, good morning."

Tsunade greeted Natsuki first while also ordering servants to prepare her breakfast.

"Morning? If you slept any longer, it'd practically be lunchtime."

Natsuki smiled warmly, her tone carrying no actual reprimand.

"Haha~"

"A life without work really is amazing."

Tsunade said contentedly as she stretched lazily.

"It's not easy having Kawaki cover your shift."

"Pregnancy really changes things around here."

Natsuki teased Kawaki—there wasn't a lazier person in the whole household.

"You said it."

"He ran off cheerfully after I said it just twice."

Tsunade wouldn't admit that she'd resorted to being adorable and begging to get Kawaki to agree.

"Actually, Kawaki deserves some credit for this."

Natsuki believed it wholeheartedly without any doubt.

When it came to spoiling their wives, Sakumo and the Hatake brothers were practically flawless.

"Let's go shopping later, sister-in-law."

Tsunade originally planned to gamble a bit, but now changed her mind.

Spending time with family seemed even better.

"Sounds good. Let's buy a few new outfits for those two brothers."

Natsuki agreed happily, thinking fondly of her Honey.

"Alright, I'll call you once I'm done eating."

Tsunade sat down for the meal while Natsuki left with the snacks.

Once Tsunade finished eating, the two women left the house together, accompanied by Kakashi.

Ghost Mastiff and Little White didn't go along. They were lying in the martial arts training hall, basking in the sun.

This was also some much-needed bonding time between them and their parent.

"It's been a while since we've had a moment like this," Tsunade said with emotion as they walked toward the shopping district.

Although she wasn't swamped with work, she rarely found time for shopping.

"Then take a few days to rest properly. It's time to give Kawaki something to do."

Natsuki didn't give Kawaki's feelings a second thought and came up with a terrible idea.

"Sister-in-law is right."

"I'll think about how to tell him."

Tsunade's eyes lit up as she eagerly started brainstorming ideas.

After finalizing her plan, her mood improved significantly.

Kawaki thought he just had to endure the day, unaware that Tsunade was already plotting how to rope him in.

"Mommy, carry me. I can't walk anymore."

After walking a short distance, Kakashi started feeling lazy.

"You've only walked a few steps. Why should I carry you?"

"Your father would've given you a spanking by now if he were here."

Natsuki scolded Kakashi sternly. She still believed boys should be strong.

"Never mind, sister-in-law."

"Kakashi is still young."

Tsunade defended Kakashi. Whether it was the pregnancy or not, she seemed to dote on Kakashi even more lately.

"Auntie will carry you, okay?"

Tsunade extended her arms after saying this.

"Okay."

Kakashi didn't care much and rushed into Tsunade's arms.

"Getting heavier again."

Tsunade picked up Kakashi in one motion and kissed his little face.

"You and Kawaki spoil him too much."

Natsuki looked at him with slight helplessness. Being a strict mother truly wasn't easy!
