Chapter 209 - Chapter 209: Personnel Appointment

"Your new role will be serving as the Hokage's assistant. From now on, you'll just need to help me with paperwork."

"It's also contributing to the village. It's really important."

Tsunade said this with a thick face, her face slightly red.

She was naturally easygoing, but outright deceiving someone like this was uncharacteristic of her.

"No, seriously, I can't do it."

Shouta had seen the Hokage's desk full of documents before and was already getting anxious.

He genuinely hated hassle—and nothing was more troublesome than mountains of paperwork. It could kill a guy.

"How can a man say he can't do something?"

"That's settled then. Come in early tomorrow."

Kawaki no longer cared about appearances—he grabbed Tsunade and vanished on the spot.

Before Shouta could even finish his protest, he stared blankly at the empty chair in front of him, almost ready to cry.

What kind of people are these?

If you'd just said straight up, "Hey, become my assistant and handle all this Hokage paperwork,"

you could've killed me, and I still wouldn't have agreed.

Shouta's face instantly drooped—like a frostbitten eggplant.

This was definitely the most drawn-out con he'd ever fallen for.

"Haha! I told you I found someone!"

"You better not drag me into handling paperwork again from now on."

Kawaki and Tsunade appeared inside the Senju mansion, Kawaki's face bright with satisfaction.

"You're truly shameless!"

Tsunade rolled her eyes at Kawaki, then sat down on her bed.

"Don't worry about being shameless or not—how about just admiring how smoothly this went?"

"The whole thing took less than five minutes."

Kawaki grinned proudly. He hadn't even touched the tea that Shouta kindly prepared before running off.

"Pfft!"

Tsunade suddenly burst into laughter, thinking about Shouta's stunned expression.

Meeting Kawaki must have been his downfall.

"Alright, stop laughing."

"There's still a lot we need to do."

Kawaki sat down beside Tsunade.

Tsunade needed to reshuffle her shadow guards, and the Anbu also needed restructuring.

Most importantly, the Police Force would now be handed over to Sarutobi and the Uzumaki clan, finally allowing the Uchiha to take their place among Konoha's upper echelons.

They went over every detail, big and small. When they finally stepped outside, they realized it had already gotten dark.

"Just eat here tonight."

Tsunade pulled Kawaki toward the dining room.

"Fine."

Kawaki hurried two steps forward, walking side by side with Tsunade.

"I was just about to send Nawaki to call both of you."

Mito had already noticed their return but hadn't disturbed them.

"Well, here we are."

Tsunade sat down next to Mito, while Kawaki greeted with a "Grandma," and followed suit.

"My older sister, you seemed especially imposing today."

Nawaki started eating after seeing Grandma already had food in her mouth, slipping in a compliment as he chewed.

"Do you mean to say I wasn't imposing before?"

Tsunade shot back with one sentence, making Nawaki instantly feel like he shouldn't have praised her.

"Sister Tsunade has always carried a strong presence."

Beside him, Misaki came to Nawaki's rescue.

"Exactly! What Misaki said is right!"

Nawaki quickly nodded along, saving his own life—next time he flattered her, he'd need to use more brainpower.

"Flunky."

Kushina gave Nawaki a disdainful glance. The two of them clearly didn't get along very well.

"Enough already—can't you two eat without arguing?"

Mito spoke, and the two instantly fell silent.

After finishing the meal, Lord Kawaki took his leave, since he had more important matters to attend to the next day.

Bright and early the next morning, Nara Shouta arrived at the Hokage's office to report for duty.

When he saw Kawaki, there was still a flicker of resentment in his eyes.

"What's the big deal? This is just part of your training."

Kawaki stepped forward, patted Shouta's shoulder, and said with casual ease.

"Thank you for your kindness, Lord Kawaki."

Looking at the pile of paperwork almost burying Tsunade's head behind the desk, Shouta replied through clenched teeth.

"No need to be so formal. Just get yourself familiar with it for now."

"There's also an important meeting later."

Kawaki pretended not to understand and walked over to sit down on the sofa.

Nemu Koharu had gone off to notify everyone about the meeting.

"Yes."

With no choice, Nara Shouta could only approach Tsunade to see how she handled the paperwork.

"Shouta, for matters like this, just handle them directly without asking me."

"After you finish, show me briefly."

"For stuff like this, just leave it to me."

Tsunade quickly sorted the documents into three piles, significantly reducing her workload.

After hearing Tsunade's instructions, Shouta's resentment toward Kawaki increased by another notch.

"Can I recruit another person?"

Konoha was just a village—how many important matters could there really be?

According to Tsunade's standards, most of the files needed to be handled by him.

"That's fine. Just introduce them to me afterwards."

Tsunade readily agreed—it didn't matter whether he recruited one or even three people.

"Fine."

With things having reached this point, Shouta could only bite the bullet and push forward.

Roughly half an hour later, Nemu Koharu came to inform them that the meeting would begin shortly.

Tsunade threw down her pen directly.

"Shouta, you've watched enough by now."

"Just give it a try first; I'll come back after the meeting."

Saying that, she left the office together with Kawaki, leaving Shouta alone staring blankly at the stack of paperwork.

The three arrived at the meeting room where all those with decision-making authority in Konoha were already present.

Today, Tsunade would reshuffle personnel and firmly establish her control over Konoha.

She sat at the central seat, marking the official start of the meeting.

"Well, today it's mainly about personnel appointments."

"I'd also like to hear everyone's opinions."

Tsunade got straight to the point, which everyone had already anticipated.

It was only natural for a new leader to appoint their loyalists upon taking office.

"The former Anbu head has already resigned. I have decided to appoint Sakumo Hatake to fill this position."

Oh?!

"Does anyone have any objections?"

Tsunade scanned the room with her gaze, while murmurs emerged here and there among the attendees.

After a short pause, most cast votes in favor.

Thus, the appointment of Sakumo Hatake as the new Anbu head was smoothly approved.

"The administrative department originally had two advisors. Now temporarily, Advisor Nemu will take full responsibility."

Tsunade glanced at Nemu Koharu, and no objections were raised.

"It shall be done."

Nemu Koharu accepted the task. She had long been fully loyal to Tsunade's faction.

"I will place the Police Force under Sarutobi and the Uchiha clan."

"Any differing opinions?"

As Tsunade brought up the most sensitive issue, the room erupted into noise.

"Enough, everyone. If anyone has concerns, say them now."

Tsunade slammed her fist on the table, instantly silencing the room.

"How should the Uchiha be assigned?" one elder asked, voicing the question most were thinking.

"The Uchiha specialize in genjutsu. Put them in charge of the interrogation unit." This was Tsunade's decision after discussing with Kawaki. It was a far better choice than assigning them to the Police Force.

"Absolutely not! The Uchiha have ulterior motives and can't be trusted with such an important role." Immediately someone spoke out against it.

"Ulterior motives? What exactly is wrong with the Uchiha?"

"Their clan leader died in the Second Shinobi World War. Fugaku Uchiha, in particular, made significant contributions."

"Are all those claims false?" Tsunade snapped angrily. The person who held prejudice against the Uchiha immediately had no words to say.

"Fine. Let's vote by show of hands."

Kawaki had already planned for this. He subtly scanned the faces of those he'd spoken to earlier.

True to his expectations, the Uchiha secured the position by a narrow margin.

Later, Orochimaru was appointed head of the Medical Department.

Kawaki hadn't expected Tsunade would prepare a position for him—the head of the Education Department, essentially the principal of the Ninja Academy. Reflecting on it, he found it rather amusing.

With that, the meeting came to a close. Konoha's six major departments were now firmly under Tsunade's control.

Whether judged by reputation or real power, she was undeniably worthy of the title Hokage.
