Chapter 20 - Final Exams

Turns out, I'd missed out on some rescue training while I was in the hospital. Lucky for me, I recovered just in time for my final exams.

The moment I walked into 1-A, I was swarmed by my classmates. Unfortunately, I had to stay tight-lipped about the whole Sinister Six thing and give credit to the adults who stepped in. I wondered if Iida, Todoroki, and Midoriya had to go through something similar with Stain. Nonetheless, I'm glad we all made it out of our internships in one piece.

The written portions of the exams were a cake walk. There were a few questions that I hadn't been able to study for due to the whole Nuform-induced coma, but common sense led me toward some pretty confident guesses. The rest of the questions were things I recalled studying with Momo back before the internships.

On the final day, I finished pretty early, as did Midoriya and Momo. The three of us shared confident glares as we watched the others finish.

The next day, it was time for the main event, the practical exams. As we approached the venue, a mock city similar to the one used during the entrance exams, all of the teachers from the hero course were waiting for us. It's safe to say that we were about to undergo some serious shit.

We were broken up into pairs. I hoped and prayed that I would be paired with Midoriya, Ochaco, Kirishima, or Momo; hell, I'd even take Mr. Sparkles or Bakugo over who I ended up with. Out of the entire class, I was the unlucky sucker who got paired up with that little horny shit, Mineta. And worst of all, we were going up against his kryptonite... Midnight.

I nearly fell to my knees when I heard the news, but I maintained my posture and shed a few hidden tears beneath my mask.

Eventually, Mineta and I found a quiet place to brainstorm how we're gonna beat her. As I was spitballing my ideas, Mineta looked at me with determination oozing from his eyeballs, begging me to listen.

"What, you have a plan?" I asked him.

"Yes... We have to destroy Midnight's costume!"

A typhoon of thunder crackled around my body. I held up my hand, flashing a concoction of blue and golden electricity at the pervert.

"I have an idea, what if we see what happens when Grape Juice meets hundreds of thousands of volts of electricity. Maybe even millions, I haven't quite gotten around to testing just how much I could output."

Trembling, Mineta swallowed and took a step back. "Never mind."

I wanted more than anything to punch him sky high, but I also wanted to pass. I sighed and sat on the curb before using his degeneracy to my advantage.

"We gotta take this seriously, man. If we pass this, we get to go to camp with all the girls, right?"

Mineta nodded along intently.

"And since we're gonna be staying the night, that means what? We're all going to be wearing pajamas. Which means-"

Mineta placed one foot on the curb, clasped his heart, and aimed his free hand toward the heavens. "Which means our eyes will be graced with the beautiful sight of our goddesses in their elegant, sexy, or even both, sleepwear!"

I sighed. "Exactly. So will you listen to my plan now?"

"Sir, yes, sir!"

We only had thirty minutes or so to come up with a real plan; not to toot my own horn or anything, but it sounded genius on paper. Before we knew it, he and I found ourselves in the ring with Midnight herself, surrounded by stones and boulders of various sizes. If Midnight were a projectile hero, they would've made for good cover from her attacks, but instead, she was the one using them to conceal herself.

"Stay on your toes," I said to Mineta, my eyes darting from rock to rock. "If we want our plan to work, it's best we don't get separated. Even if she does target you, I'll be able to use my speed to get us out of here."

"Right," he muttered.

My Spider-Sense wasn't picking up on her; likely because she didn't intend on hurting me, thus she wasn't necessarily a threat. My eyes jumped from rock to rock as I zeroed in on my hearing; however, Midnight showed us exactly why she's the pro and we aren't.

"Surprise..." she said, placing her hand on my shoulders. My body went limp, and I found myself with a face full of her breasts as I fell onto her chest.

"Noooooo!" Mineta yelled hysterically. "That should've been me! You bastard! You probably planned all this! This is what you wanted from the get-go, to be curled up with Ms. Midnight, it's not fair — It's not fair!"

Midnight sat on her knees, placing my head on her lap as she stroked my head.

"Come, now, young Mineta. Don't you want to join your little friend? There's more than enough room for both of you, especially since you're so small and adorable."

Mineta let out a battle cry as he ran away from her. Though he wanted to accept the offer badly, he wanted to prove himself worthy of being a hero more. Midnight threw me off of her and started chasing Mineta down, walking slowly as if she were the villain in a slasher movie.

There was a long chase, and I could hardly hear what they were chatting about from where I lay; however, the last thing Mineta said was loud and clear.

You might be wondering how on earth I was able to remember what happened when I was knocked out by Midnight's pheromones — well, it's because I wasn't.

"I found the exit gate!"

Immediately, I jumped to my feet and grabbed the web that had been attached to Mineta this entire time, a strand so thin it could be used as fishing wire. Mineta started throwing his orbs at Midnight, pinning her down to the ground. Once she was immobilized, I yanked my web, pulling Mineta toward me.

"You fell right for my trap! Unfortunately for you, Morales is a genius, and we planned this entire thing out!"

I leaped in the air and grabbed Mineta. He pointed in the direction of the exit gate while Midnight looked up at us with the eyes of a bloodthirsty lion.

"You little- How did you already recover from my Quirk!"

I zipped Mineta and me over to a nearby boulder, just far enough away from her to where her gas couldn't hit us, not that it really mattered. I pulled up my Spider-Man mask, revealing that I was wearing a gas mask made of webs under it this entire time.

"That's the thing about prep time, Ms. Midnight! Even inexperienced students like us can take down a pro! You even fell for my bait and targeted me first, just how I planned!"

I gloated, but my plan honestly barely worked. My Quirk wasn't nearly as good as Yaoyorozu's when it came to making things; thus, my gas mask wasn't perfect. If it wasn't for my body's ability to fight back against toxins, I might've passed out.

Mineta and I swung through the exit gate, finishing faster than anyone else in our class. When we made it back to the control room, where the rest of the class was watching, we were hyped up by almost everyone. Though I could tell Momo may have been a little jealous about how things went down.

"So all of that was part of your plan, huh?"

"Well, not necessarily," I told her. "I definitely wasn't expecting the whole cuddling bit."

But I was hoping for it.

The next day, class 1-A returned to the classroom. While some panicked about failing and having to miss summer camp, Yaoyorozu and I chatted about what we hope goes down at camp. Just when I was about to slyly suggest she and I should go on a private walk or two on the campgrounds, Aizawa burst into the room.

My butt magnetically flew into my seat as he walked in. We made eye contact, but he didn't scold me with his words.

"Some of you didn't pass. However, all of you are going to summer camp."

I could hear those who failed cheering behind me, namely Kirishima and Kaminari, being the loudest.

"We just lied to make sure you'd try your hardest. Everyone gets to go, but those who failed will still have to study at camp. By the way, it'll be far worse than what you'd go through at summer school."

The same students let out a disappointing groan.

Since we only had one day off before summer camp, the non-loners of the group all met up at the local mall. The place was huge, having at least five floors, and was the size of a small town. This labyrinth was a nightmare for any lost children; this was evident by the crying child begging for his mommy in the middle of the mall. Lucky for the little guy, Momo made a megaphone, and I was able to swing through the mall, calling for the kid's mother until we found her.

I met Momo back where we'd initially found the kid, a smirk etched on her face.

"You know, we can get in serious trouble for using our Quirks outside of class."

"Yeah, well, the kid needed help. It's not like they'll arrest me for reuniting a family."

Momo chuckled, covering her mouth with one hand. I looked at her as the escalator took us to the second floor.

"What?" I asked.

"You're just funny. You're always trying to do good; it's admirable. Some actual pro heroes might feel like a crying child pales in comparison to a real crisis."

"That's true. Not me, though. More than anything, I want to help the little guys. Sure, beating up villains is cool and all, but I wanna be someone who interacts with the people, even more so than All Might. He's sort of like a god in some people's eyes, and I don't really want that. I wanna be seen as a friend. Your Friendly Neighboorhood Spider-Man!"

"Doesn't quite have the same ring to it as the Symbol of Peace," she teased.

"Are you bullying me?"

"A little. But, I think it's cute."

"Not quite as cute as Creati, though," I jested.

"You know," Momo's smile vanished as she looked off into space. "I sort of felt regret for my hero name recently. I was thinking it might sound a little chldish. But after hearing what you just said, I think I was looking at it all wrong. Sure, it's less threatening for villains, but it's more approachable to those who matter. We're supposed to be role models, right?"

"Role models who inspire. That's my life's goal," I told her.

"Well, considering you inspire me every day, I'd say you're doing a great job."

"I feel the same about you, Momo."

"Momo?" a voice said from behind, nearly causing us both to jump off the escalator. We both turned to see Jirou behind us, her hands in her coat pockets. "Didn't know you two were on a first-name basis. Interesting, I wonder what the others will say when they find out."

Jirou wore a mischievous grin; I had no idea she was capable of being so devious.

"How long have you been behind us?" I asked her.

"The whole time. I've been debating on if I should third wheel with you two love birds or not."

"We're just friends!" Momo and I said simultaneously.

"Right... Anyway, I need a new duffle bag and I don't really wanna shop alone."

"I actually was thinking about getting one myself," I told her.

"I as well," Yaoyorozu added.

And so, the three of us ventured the mall together for about half an hour until my Spider-Sense started going crazy. A few minutes later, I found out that one of the villains from the USJ attack came into contact Midoriya. Luckily, nothing bad happened, but the mall did go on lockdown after that. The villain, Shigaraki, ended up escaping despite the massive search conducted by the heroes.

It seemed as though no matter what, whenever class 1-A was together, bad things tended to happen. All I could do was hope that this horrible streak of bad luck didn't continue throughout summer camp...

Only time would tell.
