According to the original plan, Ning Chu should've stayed at Lily's house for two or three days—leaving the day after tomorrow at the earliest.
But accidents happened.
For one, Lily's parents had returned, and Ning Chu was absolutely terrible at dealing with elders. Staying any longer would've just meant constant awkwardness.

"Back so early?"
The moment she stepped inside, her mother's voice reached her. Looking up, Ning Chu spotted her sitting at the dining table, half-watching a drama while picking at the leftovers.
"Something came up."
Ning Chu let out a wry smile as she set her luggage aside.
"I bet you just couldn't wait to get back to Wen Yang."
"As if!"
Sure, she'd been unbearably restless last night, but hadn't she already taken care of it herself this morning? No need for Wen Yang at all~
Her words came quick and sharp, but her face betrayed her with a faint blush, just enough for her mother's teasing to land. She quickly changed the subject, glancing toward the living room.
"Where's Black Bean?"
Normally, her cat would be the first one to rush out to greet her.
"In the bedroom, doing who-knows-what. Probably asleep."

That sounded about right. That lazy furball could fall asleep literally anywhere, anytime.
Ning Chu flopped onto the sofa, reaching under the coffee table to fish out a bag of beef jerky. She popped a strip into her mouth, chewing idly.
She hadn't had dinner yet, so instead of easing her hunger, the savory taste only made her stomach growl louder.
"Mom, is there anything left to eat? I'm starving."
"It's way past dinner time." Her mother shot her a look. "You couldn't grab something on the way home? You want me to cook for you now?"
"Mom~"
One little whine was all it took. Her mother's expression softened at once. She muttered a bit of half-hearted complaint, but the smile tugging at her lips gave her away as she stood and headed into the kitchen.
"I'll whip you up a bowl of noodles."
"Yes!"
Ning Chu stretched out on the sofa, curling her legs up and gnawing on jerky while scrolling through her novel app.
Ahh~ nothing beat the comfort of home.
Especially when Black Bean wasn't raising a fuss—so quiet, so cozy…
The only downside was Wen Yang's new night shifts. From now on, she'd only get to see him for lunch.
She checked her phone again. The message she'd sent him an hour ago still hadn't been read. Supposedly, his workplace didn't allow phones while on duty…
"The noodles are ready."
"Coming!"
She hurried to the dining table just as her mother brought out the steaming bowl.
The noodles were simple but hearty—rib broth for the base, a few tender chunks of meat, some greens on top. It had been thrown together quickly, but it smelled and tasted delicious all the same.
As Ning Chu dug in, her mother set her phone aside, resting her chin in one hand as she gazed across the table with a mischievous smile.
"Heading out again tonight?"
Ning Chu froze mid-bite, then dropped her gaze, muttering, "Of course not."
Even though she'd barely been home a few minutes, the craving to pounce on Wen Yang was already gnawing at her again. The toy she'd used earlier hadn't come close to scratching the itch—compared to him, the difference was heaven and earth.
"Really now?"
"Really! Wen Yang doesn't even get off work until eleven. By then, I'll already be asleep!"
Her mother gave her a skeptical side-eye. "Fine. But I'm heading out for mahjong tonight. Don't let me find Ning Xin still awake when I get home in the morning."
"She's already asleep…"
At that news, a spark of delight lit in Ning Chu's chest. Still, she pouted on the outside, mumbling, "Mom, can't you quit pulling all-nighters? You're not that young anymore, you know."
"Oh, listen to you lecturing me." Her mother reached over and flicked her lightly on the head.
She stood up and walked to the guest bedroom door. Peeking in, she made sure Black Bean was already asleep, then cheerfully headed to the front door, slung her bag over her shoulder, and got ready to leave.
"I'm going. Take care of Ning Xin at home."
"Got it~"
"And remember to wash the dishes."
"Okay."
Ning Chu slurped at her noodles without even looking up, but the moment she heard the door click shut, she sprang up from her chair.
She quickly scarfed down the rest of the noodles, gave the dishes a half-hearted rinse, and rushed out to follow her mother's footsteps.
Wait—what if Black Bean woke up and couldn't find anyone?
She hesitated, turned back, and went into the bedroom.
Opening the door, she walked to the bed. Black Bean was curled up tightly around a body pillow. Ning Chu bent down and gently shook her shoulder.
Black Bean was a light sleeper—she'd actually woken up the moment Ning Chu set foot inside.
"Hmm?"
"Mom went out to play mahjong. I'm going out too in a bit."
"Sis? When did you get back?!" The moment Black Bean saw her, her cat ears perked straight up, and all traces of drowsiness vanished.
"Don't get so wound up, just go back to sleep…"
But Black Bean sat up, scolding like a little adult: "Sis! You're going to see brother-in-law again, aren't you? Mom says you're never home at night! Always siding with outsiders!"
"…"
"Order me some late-night snacks and I won't tell Mom~"
I knew it.
Ning Chu had already guessed this little glutton would say that. She rolled her eyes and handed over her phone. "Pick whatever you want."
"Yay!"
"But tonight you better behave and go to bed."
"I know! I'm super well-behaved!" Black Bean's little head bobbed up and down.
Even though she still felt uneasy, once the order was placed, Ning Chu hurried out the door and took a taxi straight to Wen Yang's apartment.
When she got inside, she glanced at the clock—it would still be more than two hours before he got off work.

Not finding the person she wanted to see, her impulsive excitement gradually cooled.
She sat awkwardly on the bed and sighed. "I'm getting more and more shameless…"

At half past eleven, Wen Yang arrived at the apartment door.
He had already replied to Ning Chu's texts, but she hadn't answered back—probably asleep by now.
Playing with his phone, he fumbled with the keys and pushed the door open.
The room was pitch black, but the air carried a familiar, sweet girlish scent, faintly mixed with milky fragrance.
He froze, instinctively closing the door and looking toward the bed.
There, he saw a little succubus with an extra fox tail, lying completely bare after a shower, offering herself up.
The small fox's face was flushed, lips parted, eyes hazy, as she clutched at his pant leg.
