The blast doors sealed behind them.
No Eliot. No Savannah.
Just Rina. And Lena.
Face-to-face. Bloodline to bloodline.
"Why help them?" Lena asked. "They used you."
"No," Rina said. "They freed me."
Lena scoffed. "You really think you're special? You were just trial number 47. I was number 46. The only difference is I accepted what I am."
"And what's that?" Rina asked.
Lena stepped forward, eyes burning. "Perfection. Unquestioning. Unbreakable."
Rina didn't flinch. "Then why are you trembling?"
Lena's jaw tightened. "Because you're wrong."

Across the compound, Eliot and Savannah fought their way toward the control core.
"She's in there too long," Eliot muttered.
Savannah sliced through a lock. "She needs space."
"She needs backup."
"She needs faith."

Inside the chamber, Lena pulled out a hidden blade.
Rina stared at it.
"No more experiments," she whispered. "No more control."
Then she dropped her weapon.
"I'm not fighting you, Lena."
Lena charged.
Rina didn't move.
At the last second—Lena stopped.
Blade inches from Rina's neck.
Breathing hard. Shaking.
"Why didn't you fight?" she rasped.
"Because I see you," Rina said. "Not the code. Not the data. You."
Lena's eyes filled.
And for the first time…
She let go.
