Chapter 20 - To Be A Hero: Ch.20

"Why do you guys look like you went toe to toe with a hurricane?"

"Magic stuff. Lord of Chaos. Match went a bit mad so I had to calm him down," I muttered as I plopped down on one of the chairs, Wally looking at me with a skeptical look as Match fell onto the seat beside me.

"Right~ And I'm the Queen of England."

"Right, I forget you don't believe in magic."

"I don't not believe in magic. I simply believe that you can't call something magic if there's a logical reasoning for it."

"A being that can create feelings of anger in others?"

"That's like a Meta-human Tuesday for me," Wally said with a shrug in response to Robin's statement, to which he went to reply before stopping as he looked at us.

"He kind of has a point there. Meta-humans have changed just how we view the reality around us."

"Yea, but most Meta-Humans can't warp reality by scribbling chaos runes in the air or teleport through dimensions with a housecat that can turn into a sabretooth."

"I haven't met those that can, but I'm sure Flash. If it follows rules and laws, it's simply just science we don't get yet."

"Uh-huh, tell that to Klarion while he's turning your blood into snakes. I'd like to know the equation on that," I murmured to which Wally just rolled his eyes before I glanced at Match as he was softly bumping his head against the back of his chair.

"…Seriously, though, is he okay?"

"He will be. Klarion did something to his mind, but Dr. Fate helped suppressed it. The only issue is that it's still there in some small form so we'll have to be careful."

"Damn…that's messed up. I didn't even know that was possible."

"We didn't know either, which is why we need to start treating magic threats like the ticking time bombs they are."

"When Lords of Chaos makes plans, the fallout usually involves explosions, mind control and someone nearly dying," Artemis chimed in, to which Wally sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Fine, I guess I'll keep the 'magic isn't real' arguments to myself for now."

"Thank you."

"…Still doesn't mean I won't question it. Like, do chaos conduits come with an instruction manual?" Or is it more like 'stab and see what happens'?"

"Wally," I spoke with a warning tone, to which he quickly raised his hands with a shrug.

"Okay, okay! I'm done! Just…next time you take on a literal Lord of Chaos, give me a call. I wanna see if he can actually turn your blood into snakes."

"Okay, sure. While we're doing that, you can also help me calm down an angry Kryptonian," I spoke with a dry smile and he looked up before slowly looking to Match who looked back with a frown.

"On second thought, I'll stick to running around and punching things."

"Smart man. Speaking of running around, how did things go with Clayface?", Robin asked and Wally groaned as he flopped down on the seat while shaking his head.

"Oh, don't remind me. That guy was a whole lot harder to face off against than what I thought it would be."

"You thought you could punch at him and win, didn't you?"

"Wait, how'd you know?"

"It's something I expect you to do. Besides, I tried to kick his ass the same way and I got put against a wall like I was gum," Robin said with a shrug and Wally just stared at him while I chuckled as I looked at the silent member at the table.

"M'gann, everything okay?"

"Huh?", She asked as she sat up, making us blink as she looked at us before she blushed and quickly stood up. Watching as she walked away, I slowly turned to Wally who sighed and shook his head.

"Uh, don't ask me. I just know that she fought against Clayface and then…Batman found her unconscious."

"Okay, I guess something happened, then," I muttered before shaking my head, standing up with a grunt before gesturing for Match to stay seated.

"I'm just going to talk to M'gann, bud. You can rest here and catch your breath."

"…But Match is not tired yet," He muttered and I just patted his shoulder before making my way towards the hallway that led to the rooms, easily walking through it before stopping in front of M'gann's door.

"Hey, M'gann. On a scale of one to ten, how much do you want to see me right now?"

"Twenty," Her muffled voice came from behind the door and I raised an eyebrow at the high number while humming.

"Really? Is it something that happened on the mission?"

"…No."

'Okay, so it's definitely something that happened on the mission?'

"Does it involve me in some way, then?"

"No! No, it doesn't. Now, go away~!"

'So, Clayface morphed into me and then did something as me…? But wha-'

"M'gann…?"

"No."

"Did Clayface turn into me…and then try to…kiss you perhaps?"

"…Maybe?"

"…Did you actually kiss?", I was actually curious right now before I grunted as the door swung open, swatting my face as she floated out with a glare.

"No, he did not!"

"Got it! Clayface didn't kiss you! Please don't destroy my mind," I said, a bit hesitant as M'gann glared at me before huffing as she turned and floated back in.

"Okay, so if he didn't kiss you, I'm guessing that he…flirted with you, then?"

"…Yeah, he did. I was so close to catching him too~ But he just turned into you and I just…"

"…Would it help if I started flirting with you? You know, to offset the embarrassment?"

"Are you being serious right now?'

"Hey, I'm just trying to help here," I answered with an innocent shrug as she paused mid-air before shaking her hair, but I smirked as I saw her trying to hide the corner of her mouth twitching.

"The last thing I need right now is you trying to be charming."

"Well, it's either that or let you stew in the fact that a mud monster impersonated me and flirted better than I ever have, which I have to say is pretty hurtful for my pride."

"Urgh, don't say it like that. It makes it worse," She grumbled as she hid her face, but I chuckled as I heard her little giggle before walking closer and nudging her shoulder.

"Hey, it's okay. Clayface has messed with many people before. He's a shapeshifting lunatic with a flair for drama so he knew what he was doing."

"Yeah, I know, but it still caught me off guard. It's just…the way he said things made it sounded like you, but…it wasn't at the same time."

"Oh, really? Well, at least you figured that out before throwing yourself at him like a rom-com."

"Please, I realized something was wrong the moment he even tried to flirt with me."

"Oh, really? So, you're saying that I'm a slow guy?", I asked, smirking as she just giggled while shrugging.

"Just saying. You have to step up your game if you don't want to be outdone by a walking mudpile."

"Ouch. That hurt more than getting thrown through a wall by Match," I said, pretending to clutch my chest as she shook her head.

"Thank you, though, for checking up on me."

"Eh, it's what I do," I said with a shrug and she rolled her eyes before I blinked as she hugged me softly.

"Thank you, really. For what it's worth, if you were actually trying to flirt earlier…"

"Yeah?"

"…I didn't mind the direct approach."

"Oh, really? Then you love the approach where I cook for you. I'm actually pretty good at that one too."

"I'll take that over Clayface's sleazy impersonation any day," She murmured as she stood back, sounding a bit more relaxed now as I smiled before my phone rang as I went to respond.

"You expecting a call?"

"Not in the slightest," I muttered as I took out the phone, unlocking it and accepting the call.

"Hello, you've reached Superboy."

"Hey, Chris. It's Clark."

"Oh, hey, Supes. What's up?", I asked before my eyes widened at his response.

"The serum is done."

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"You're sure it's done?", I asked as I landed outside the entrance to the Fortress of Solitude, Match landing beside me as Clark smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, V-2 informed me that it was finished."

"Wasn't it supposed to take like a month or around that too?"

"I believe so, but it appears that V-1 and V-2 decided to work together on it, resulting in the deadline being shorter than they calculated."

"Hmm, pretty neat."

"What is this Brother talks about?", Match asked and I looked at him before shrugging.

"Something that can make me just like you and Superman. It's a serum that, in theory, is supposed to boost my Kryptonian genes while letting me keep my Meta-Gene, though I wonder how much it's going to boost me."

"That depends on how well your body takes to the serum. Now, why did you bring Match along?"

"Oh, he wanted to come see you and the Fortress of Solitude so I thought I'd bring him," I answered with a shrug as we walked in, Supes humming as he looked at Match who was looking at everything else.

"Hey, V-1, V-2! How have you guys been?"

"We are robotic beings, Superboy. We do not feel emotions," V-1 spoke with a robotic tone as he walked towards me, patting at my arm and making me raise an eyebrow.

The next, I winced as he stabbed a syringe into my arm and drew some blood, turning and walking towards some kind of machine next to V-2 while I rubbed my arm with a grumble.

"What the hell is that needle made out of?"

"Kryptonite. It's pretty nice for when one wants blood from a Kryptonian. Now, you go over there with V-1 and V-2 and I'll keep Match occupied…in some way."

"He likes it if you play some games with him," I said before turning and walking towards V-1 and V-2, letting the two other Kryptonians catch up while watching the two droids work.

"So, run me through what you're doing."

"We are currently testing a small sample of your blood with an equal size sample of the serum itself. If the results work out, we will then put bigger samples into the needles on the side of the Medi-Pod in front of us and you'll be injected with the serums at the same time while your body is also washed with intense solar rays."

'Huh, kinds of remind me how Captain America got his powers.'

"I see. Well, I'll leave you to-"

"Tests have been completed. Compatibility is 98,7%. Serum can now be administered," V-2 cut me off before I could finish and both bots turned to me as I blinked before nodding.

"Alright, forget what I said. Where do you need me?"

"In the pod., preferably in just your underpants as the needles will be stabbed into your arms, chest, back, rear lower thighs, shins and head."

"…Got it. Okay, administer the serum."

"Affirmative," V-1 replied as it tapped away at the console, watching as the top half of the pod opened. Staring at the interior that was lined with robotic arms and a dozen needle ports, I was starting to question my decision as I took off my shirt, boots and jeans, stepping in backwards and sliding down before feeling my feet being locked in.

"You comfy in there, Chris?", I heard Clark ask, looking over to see him and Match looking on while nodding as I laid my head back.

"it's much comfier than I expected. So, am I getting seda-Ow! Son of a-"

"Language!", Clark spoke with a warning look and I rolled my eyes before wincing as the rest of the needles jabbed into my body, letting my body relax before wincing as the last of the needles stabbed into the back of my neck and head.

"We are now administering the serum. Please do not move," V-2 spoke and I took slow breaths as I felt the serum instantly, the needles retracting before I felt weak as Kryptonite appeared on the robotic arms that pinned me to the pod.

"We are now administering the rays. Please prepare yourself," I couldn't even process what V-1 said before the heat slammed me like a truck, my entire body vibrating as the pod completely sealed shut.

It felt like every cell in my body was being force-fed sunlight and rewired, energy, power flooding my veins along with excruciating pain as the light intensified.

'O-O-Okay! This is more painful than I exp-!' The world went dark for a moment before the light returned, my eyes snapping open with a gasp as the pod hissed open.

Steam poured from my body as I nearly fell out of the pod, catching myself mid-air while my vision blurred before it sharpened in that same moment.

"Vitals are stable. Muscle density, bone density and nervous systems have been enhanced by 286%. Kryptonian genetic sequence is now dominant and stabilized with the Meta-Gene. Cellular Regeneration has been unlocked and enhanced. Flight potential has been unlocked and enhanced. Frost Breath has been unlocked and enhanced. X-Ray has been enhanced."

'No heat vision? Hah, I suppose I got my TTK so I can't be that mad,' I thought with a smile as I slowly stood up, feeling my body stay afloat without me even needing to activate my TTK.

"Brother looks…different," I heard Match murmur, looking over to see his confused look before blinking as I caught sight of my own bright blue eyes in his own white eyes with black sclerae.

"That…is freaky."

"How do you feel?", Clark asked and I looked at him before flexing my body, my muscles feeling like tightly wound energy and my senses dialled up to a hundred.

"Oh, I feel like I could go a few rounds with you."

"Don't get too cocky," Clark said with an amused smile and I chuckled as I twisted through the air before returning back to my normal hovering state.

"It's a shame I don't have Heat-Vision, though. That's the one thing that I wanted to have."

"Well, at least you got the cellular regeneration and from what I can see, your muscle fibres and bone structure is a lot more dense compared to Match and I. Also, you seem to have a good sense of how to fly without needing your Meta-Gene."

"I know, right? It's like I'm not even trying. My body just moves as I pleases."

"Brother gets it," Match spoke with a grin as he floated beside me and I chuckled as I raised a fist and he bumped it.

"I do, Match. I really do."

"We would like to continue monitoring your biometrics remotely. However, the true process is complete. You are now a fully functional hybrid."

"Nice. So…now what?", I asked and as Clark went to respond, the three of us looked up to the right as a large screen appeared in front of us.

"Superman, respond."

"Superman, here. What's the matter?", Clark asked and I watched as Batman's form appeared on the screen before he spoke.

"There is an unknown entity rapidly approaching Metropolis from the west. It should arrive in ten minutes."

"Do they look like we know them?"

"No, they do not. Approach with caution."

"If it's something you don't know or recognize, you need back-up. Heavy hitting backup," I said and Clark turned to me with a frown before looking at Batman.

"He has a point."

"It's a weak point."

"Failure to prepare adequately against an enemy leads only to one's defeat. You taught us that, remember?", I said as I looked at Batman, who looked back for a while before turning to Clark.

"Take Superboy and Superboy with you."

"Oh, right. We need a name for Match…Titan. Do you like Titan, Match?"

"Titan is good," Match nodded and I grinned before turning to Clark to see him shaking his head in amusement.

"Okay, you two watch, but you do not engage until I say so. I first need to see if it is possible to negotiate with this being before we resort to violence."

"I'll try my best to keep Titan at bay," I spoke with a salute, to which Clark just shook his head before he flew towards the exit, Match and I hot on his heels as we shot out of the entrance and rocketed towards Metropolis.

Time to see what this new Kryptonite hybrid can do.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

"So, where is he?", I asked as the three of us floated above Metropolis, Superman not answering as he looked around before I turned to Match as he spoke.

"Match see him. There," Both Supes and I looked in the direction Match was nodding before I frowned, confused at the figure that was slowly crawling out of the water.

"That is quite the sight," I murmured as I stared at the figure, its muscles bulging and pulsating obscenely while numerous spiked protrusions came from its body. It slowly let out growls as it looked around and Superman didn't waste any time as he floated downwards, the being turning to him with a snarl as the man raised his hands with a soft smile.

"Hey, we're not here to fight. I simply wish t-", Unfortunately, it appears Spiky was not looking for a chance to talk as it lunged forward, my eyes widening along with that of Match as it crossed the distance between the two of them in the blink of an eye.

Landing a vicious punch that shook the entirety of Metropolis, I watched as Superman was sent soaring through the air while the figure chased after him, its roar drawing me back out of my thoughts as I shot down with Match following after.

"Supes! Now the time?!", I shouted as I caught him, Match landing in front of the behemoth and catching its roaring charge with his own while Superman wiped the blood from his nose.

"Don't go overboard," He said and I nodded before rushing in, grappling one of its arms while Match got the other as Superman landed a powerful uppercut to its jaw.

To my surprise though, the monster's jaw simply snapped back into place as it landed, a rumbling chuckle coming from its lips as it slowly lowered its head to grin at us.

"Superman, Project Kr and Project Match. With your flesh, Doomsday shall be done."

'…Oh, you have got to be kidding me.'

P.S. I gotta ask. M'gann or another girl for the pairing? Just as a final chance for anyone to change their mind. If you guys don't want M'gann, I have this way of letting it happen without it resulting in M'gann dying.
