Ficool

Chapter 4 - 4

He hired a detective to investigate, and really found this little fish who had accidentally survived.

She naturally became the only heir to the wealthy family, and the old man even gave her a black card with no spending limit.

It made it convenient for her to hoard supplies, so she often snuck out of her rich biological father's luxurious villa to go on wild shopping sprees.

Luckily, when her cheap father found out, he just thought she suddenly had money and was spending like a nouveau riche. He assumed it was a revengeful spending mindset and didn't bother to stop her.

Ending her thoughts, Freya looked around to make sure no one was around. Then she took out a dagger from her space and slowly scraped the bolt to the side.

Gently pushing the door open, she walked to the bed. A somewhat skinny old woman was lying there, snoring loudly in deep sleep.

This old woman wasn't a good person either. More than half a month ago, while doing laundry, she pushed a female educated youth into the water and then called her son, who was hiding nearby, to come out and rescue her.

That way, the girl was saved, but her reputation was ruined. Since the girl came from an ordinary family and had to stay in the village for who knows how long, she was afraid of being reported for immoral behavior. Left with no choice, she reluctantly accepted it and registered her marriage with Shun, not even holding a banquet.

Freya slapped the snoring Zhang woman hard several times.

The old woman sat up, rubbing her burning, painful face. Just as she opened her mouth to curse, she caught sight of a figure.

Suddenly, with the moonlight shining through the window, she saw what looked like Black Wuchang standing by her bed.

"Ah! Grandpa Black Wuchang, don't take me away!" Her eyes rolled back, and with a thud, she fainted dead away.

In the dark, Freya frowned, annoyed. This was way too easy. She hadn't even started her act yet!

This wouldn't do.

Another few slaps and she smacked the woman's face until it was swollen. Only then did the old woman regain consciousness.

She opened her eyes and saw Freya disguised as Black Wuchang again, and almost fainted once more. Freya lowered her voice, speaking roughly:

"If you don't want to miss your son's final moments, then go ahead and pass out!"

Just about to roll her eyes and faint again, the old woman suddenly sat up straight after hearing those words, knelt by the bedside, and started kowtowing.

"Please don't! Lord Black, take me instead, spare my son! He's my only child!"

Seeing the old woman about to start wailing, Freya quickly grabbed a dirty sock from the table and stuffed it in her mouth.

"Shut up. No crying. Or I'll take both your souls. You two have done a lot of evil over the years. You'll be going through blades, boiling oil, and the eighteen layers of hell!"

Freya growled in a low, cold voice, threatening her.

The old woman shivered and didn't dare to move. She only silently shed tears and nodded, looking unexpectedly pitiful.

But Freya had a heart of stone when facing evil. She began her performance, pulling out a stainless steel dog chain from thin air and swinging it:

"Your son is about to be killed by the Village Captain Shan's family. He's hanging on by a thread.

I was about to collect his soul, but I came by first to let you say your goodbyes. He's by the river next to the broken thatch hut near the cowshed. Hurry!

If you're late, they might destroy the body and you won't even get to see the corpse."

After saying that, Freya vanished into her space.

The old woman froze for a moment, then quickly pulled the sock out of her mouth. She didn't even bother with shoes, rushed out to wake up her cousin and his whole family, and they all ran frantically toward the river.

Once she was gone, Freya appeared in the house again, wrinkling her nose at her own hand in disgust. She walked over to the spring water pool and washed her hands before stepping out of the space.

Standing in the room, she watched the noisy group running out with hoes and sticks, yelling curses.

Her lips curved into a stunning smile. With all that noise, the whole village probably heard them.

As expected, one of the neighbors who had heard the commotion came out to see what was going on. That house was right next to another, and soon almost the whole village was loudly making their way to the river to see the drama unfold.

"Go, go, go! I heard someone's dead by the river. Let's go see!" said Villager A.

"What? Someone's dead? Wasn't it a spy?" Villager B exclaimed.

"Sounds like Shun is dead! I think that's his old mother crying!"

"If you ask me, he deserved it. Never did anything good all day!"

"Don't talk nonsense, be careful or they'll blame you!"

"Stop guessing, go see for yourself!" someone urged.

A group of villagers, like they were watching a show, chatted as they ran toward the river.

Old Zhang was quite clever, making sure everyone knew. Now that even Village Captain Shan can't settle it quietly!

Freya got excited and quickly followed, like a thief who had found a melon patch, full of joy.

She ran faster than the others, getting there before Old Zhang and the rest.

She still hid in the same bush, realizing it had the best view. She could see both the hut and the river.

To see more clearly, she took out a pair of binoculars from her space. She saw no one at the hut anymore and whispered,

"Oh, did they all move to the river?

Is that bum really dead? If he is, this just got fun!"

Then she spotted an old man with white hair checking Trina's pulse.

Freya casually picked a leaf, lightly flicked her wrist, and the buzzing mosquito was instantly torn apart.

She kept swatting mosquitoes without care. From memory, this old man should be the village's only doctor—Doctor Zhou.

His face serious, Doctor Zhou told Village Captain Shan, "Shun is gone, he's not breathing anymore. Even if you sent him to the hospital, it's too late. His leg was also broken.

Malvin's doing better, just drugged. I already gave him something to weaken the effect. He also fell into the water, so the drug's mostly gone.

Trina was also drugged, but it's worn off. Let her rest at home for a few days."

"What? He's really dead? What do we do now!"

"Village Captain Shan, you decide. We didn't mean it!"

"Yeah, it was your order!"

"Maybe we should call the police!"

The men and women all started talking at once.

Doctor Zhou glanced a few times through the torchlight at Village Captain Shan, who said nothing and showed no emotion. Not wanting to get involved, he slung his medicine bag over his shoulder and tried to leave.

"Doctor Zhou, wait!

You're an elder here, what do you think we should do?" Village Captain Shan's dark eyes stared at him, hard to read.

"I don't know what happened before this. What advice can I give?

I'm just an old man who knows how to treat people. You're the captain, you figure it out.

I'm heading back. I'm old, my arms and legs are sore, and I'm about to fall apart."

"Doctor Zhou, stay a bit. Once it's settled, we'll go back together," said Village Captain Shan, still without a solution.

"Village Captain Shan, you're going too far! Do you think this village belongs to you?"

Doctor Zhou was furious. At his age, getting dragged out in the middle of the night was already bad enough.

Now he was being held here after treating someone. Unbearable.
