"Eh—?! You want me to hunt a Gunerush alone? No, no, that's impossible!" Kumoko heard Ryu Takeno's suggestion, shaking her head and waving her hands frantically, looking pitiful, emphasizing her weakness.
"My stats are only in the double digits, less than fifty. Facing a Gunerush without traps is impossible!"
"I know, I'm not asking you to fight it alone."
Ryu Takeno leaned close to Kumoko, explaining his plan.
"Hee hee hee~ Takeno-kun, you're so cunning~"
"Likewise~"
A snake and a spider exchanged cunning smiles.
After agreeing on the plan, Kumoko went out alone to find prey—or rather, to lure prey.
Soon, a rumbling sound echoed from the passage.
Oh oh oh oh oh!! It's coming! It's coming! It's here!
Kumoko ran frantically, a furious Gunerush chasing behind. Its massive body crashed through the passage, the narrow cave shaking violently, as if about to collapse.
Though she'd confirmed with Appraisal that the Gunerush was slower, Kumoko felt the thrill of danger.
Almost there!
Kumoko saw a strand of spider silk she'd left as a marker.
She stopped there and tauntingly beckoned the Gunerush.
Come on!
Hiss—!!
Enraged, the monster lunged at Kumoko.
Kumoko stood calmly, neither dodging nor running, watching the monster charge. Its gaping maw stopped a meter from her face.
Then, with a "Boom," the ground collapsed. The ten-meter-long Gunerush fell into the pit.
Yay!! Mission accomplished! So exciting!!
Kumoko cheered, her heart pounding.
The snake's mouth had been right in front of her, a meter away from a gruesome end.
The pit was covered with a web, the bottom filled with sharp rocks and potent spider venom. It could only support a weight slightly more than Kumoko's.
Anything heavier would break the web and fall into the pit.
Even if it didn't die from the rocks, the venom would kill it. The trap wasn't designed for the rocks to kill; the real killer was Kumoko's terrifying venom.
Hiss hiss hiss~
As Ryu Takeno expected, the Gunerush didn't die from the fall.
Its attack and defense were both around three hundred. As a dragon-type monster with a trace of dragon blood, it had Dragon Scales, a defensive skill. A few rocks wouldn't kill it, but they would injure it, allowing the venom to seep in and slowly drain its life.
A cunning trap.
That's the difference between intelligent beings and animals.
Kumoko stood by the pit, a paw on her head, striking a pose and acting dramatically. "Hahahaha~ You fell for it, Gunerush! This is the escape route of the great me!"
"If you don't kill it, it'll climb out."
Ryu Takeno approached the dramatic Kumoko, reminding her but not offering to help.
Ooh ooh ooh—! It's climbing out! Oh no, oh no!
Kumoko opened her eight eyes and saw the Gunerush's gaping maw climbing towards her. While she was acting cool, it had reached within two meters.
Poison Synthesis
Drink! Drink it all up! (Dai-rō, kusuri o nonde!)!!
Kumoko frantically poured poison into the Gunerush's mouth. It tried to close its mouth, but it was too late.
The Gunerush died, poisoned from the inside out, a painful death.
This time, Ryu Takeno didn't get any experience.
It seemed experience was determined by contribution. Not participating in the battle meant no experience.
