The final invited person was Pakku, a Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe.
This master was unfamiliar to Kahn, as the Water Tribe had already faded from public view for a long time.
The Water Tribe had always been based at the North and South Poles, divided into two major tribes: the Southern Water Tribe and the Northern Water Tribe.
Many years ago, most of the Southern Water Tribe's forces were annihilated by the Fire Nation, and only a small remnant survived, roaming the seas and launching small retaliation strikes—a mere nuisance to the Fire Nation.
However, after successfully occupying the South Pole, the Fire Nation discovered that its resources were extremely scarce and the environment harsh, with almost nothing worth exploiting.
One could even say it had no value at all.
Thus, after spending effort to conquer the South Pole, the Fire Nation voluntarily abandoned it.
They also stopped attempting to attack the North Pole, as its conditions were nearly identical.
The Northern Water Tribe had always been stronger than the Southern one, and the environment of the North Pole was far more suited to Water Tribe defense.
To the Fire Nation, conquering such a frozen wasteland was pointless.
On the other hand, the Northern Water Tribe had no intention of avenging their Southern kin.
After the Fire Nation withdrew, the North returned to its closed, peaceful lifestyle and gradually faded from the world's attention.
Despite this, Kahn took this mission seriously—not only because he needed the aid of a Waterbending master, but also because of something he had discovered in ancient texts.
The North Pole was far from their current route.
Considering the harsh climate, they prepared warm clothing and plenty of supplies. Even with Four Directions flying at full speed, the trip still took almost two days.
As a divine creature, Four Directions naturally possessed extraordinary abilities.
No matter how fast it flew, Kahn and the others felt only a gentle breeze and no cold at all. Otherwise, Kahn would never dare travel so rapidly.
Upon entering the Arctic region, they were greeted by endless glaciers and boundless frozen seas.
At first glance it was breathtaking, but after a while, the scenery became monotonous.
Still, the city of the Northern Water Tribe lit up everyone's eyes.
It was a city carved entirely from ice, backed by towering glaciers and facing the shimmering sea.
From above, one could see the intricate network of waterways threading through the city, with small boats gliding along them—the primary mode of transportation for its people.
A fairytale-like city.
But they were not entering the city. Instead, they approached a secluded inlet along the coast, as previously arranged.
When the moon rose, an old man appeared, riding atop the waves themselves—striding across the water with imposing presence.
"King Bumi. Master Jeong Jeong."
"Master Pakku."
The masters exchanged greetings. Kahn took the opportunity to study the Waterbender before him.
Pakku looked elderly, tall and thin, bald on top with gray-white hair tied neatly on both sides—somewhat reminiscent of Iroh's hairstyle.
But unlike Iroh's warm, jovial demeanor, Pakku's expression was stern and rigid—hardly someone who seemed easy to get along with.
After their greetings, Pakku turned his eyes toward Kahn. Kahn cupped his hands respectfully.
"Hello, Senior Pakku. I'm Kahn, one of the organizers and initiators of this plan."
"I've heard of you."
Pakku's sharp gaze swept over him.
"Master Iroh praised you highly in his letter. But I find that hard to believe. I don't enjoy playing house with children. Do you understand?"
Despite his bluntness, Kahn sensed no actual malice—only the harsh, straightforward tone of an old master who had zero patience for nonsense.
Still, Kahn remained calm.
"Then, Senior… what would you like to do?"
Pakku stroked his beard.
"Let's put everything else aside. First, I want to test your strength. If you can't even meet the minimum requirement, then we might as well disband right now."
As expected, a fight was coming.
Kahn had been prepared. King Bumi, standing nearby, clapped excitedly.
"Hehehe, now THAT'S more like it!"
The two took their positions. Pakku glanced up at the moon.
"If you mind, we can wait until sunrise, but there's no difference in the terrain here."
Firebending drew strength from the sun, Waterbending from the moon.
A Waterbender's power surged during the night—reaching its peak under a full moon. Likewise, Firebenders were strongest under the noon sun.
And here, surrounded by oceans and glaciers, Pakku had every environmental advantage.
Kahn only smiled.
"No need. A real battle is like this—you can't always expect favorable conditions."
Pakku raised an eyebrow, surprised.
"You speak well. I hope your strength isn't all talk."
"Then I won't hold back!"
Pakku spread his arms. The ice beneath his feet instantly melted into flowing water that spiraled around him.
With a single wave, a massive water pillar shot forward.
The battle ignited instantly.
Kahn dodged with practiced agility, but quickly realized something was wrong.
King Bumi's terrifying control allowed him to make Earthbending move as if alive, but earth could never match water for fluidity—especially water guided by a master.
If Bumi's earth seemed almost sentient, the water under Pakku's command truly was alive—fierce one moment and soft the next, constantly surging, retreating, shifting, making defense nearly impossible.
Jeong Jeong and King Bumi chatted as they watched.
"Master Pakku's Waterbending has improved again," Jeong Jeong noted.
"Hehe, it's been a long time since we last met. It'd be weirder if he hadn't improved," Bumi laughed.
His eyes shifted to Kahn, who was being overwhelmed.
"You and Kahn are both Firebenders. Under these conditions… do you think that kid still has anything up his sleeve?"
Jeong Jeong considered.
"Water counters fire—especially here. I probably wouldn't be a match for Master Pakku either. But if it's just about hanging on…"
He hesitated, "He's a bit special. Sometimes unpredictable."
Meanwhile, Kahn felt the same thing: his usual speed and misdirection were failing him completely. Pakku's water left him nowhere to hide.
But instead of panicking, he laughed softly.
If there's nowhere to hide… then stop hiding.
Flame Ring!
"BOOM!"
A massive ring of fire burst outward from Kahn, slamming into the approaching water.
Steam exploded upward as the colliding elements clashed, and for a moment, the fire actually pushed the water back.
Pakku's eyes widened slightly—but he remained composed. He froze the water instantly, raising a thick ice wall that absorbed the flames.
Then he smirked.
"Hoh… looks like the real show is finally starting."
