After falling for only a few seconds, the surrounding darkness suddenly brightened.
The narrow tunnel opened into a massive underground chamber, its walls embedded with faintly glowing crystals.
Kahn released a burst of flame beneath his feet, slowing his descent before landing lightly. The space felt like a training hall—wide, hollow, and strange.
A moment later, the old man arrived, emerging from the stone floor like a mole bursting from the earth. The scene was absurdly surreal.
Kahn had seen Earthbending before. Kou Li and her mother were Earthbenders, and he had learned plenty from them during his time in the Imperial City.
But the old man in front of him had pushed Earthbending far past anything he had imagined—this wasn't manipulation. This was teleportation in all but name.
There was no question. This outrageous ability belonged to only one man.
King Bumi.
Even though he looked ancient—bald, white-haired, wrinkles stacked thick—the frighteningly massive muscles on his frame were anything but elderly.
Is this what a hundred-plus-year-old looks like? Kahn couldn't help thinking. He's bigger than me!
Suppressing his shock, he greeted him properly:
"You must be Senior King Bumi. I'm Kahn—Uncle Iroh asked me to pick you up."
"Sharp eyes, sharp mind—good, good!" Bumi grinned wide, acknowledging it with a nod.
But he did not stop moving. Instead, he stretched his arms like an old man preparing to play.
"We'll talk business later. For now… come play with me!"
And before Kahn could respond, he attacked.
🔥 Fire and rock clashed.
At first, King Bumi's attacks looked almost simple—stones hurling forward, spikes rising from the ground—like the basic drills of any Earthbender.
But Kahn, who was dodging them, knew better.
Every stone thrown had a perfect curve. Every rising spike cut off his escape angles precisely. Every move was calculated to box him in. Nothing wasted. Nothing casual.
Kori's Earthbending was strong. Her mother's was terrifying.
But compared to this?
Those two were children playing in the dirt.
As expected of a Grandmaster.
Kahn danced among the incoming rocks, twisting, flipping, launching precise bursts of fire to deflect or break openings.
His body moved with impossible fluidity—Spiritbending sharpened his perception, Firebending propelled him like a comet, and his strengthened spirit let him draw out every ounce of his potential.
If he got serious now, even Azula would struggle to tag him. For Earthbenders, who naturally lacked aerial agility, hitting him was nearly impossible.
Across from him, Bumi watched Kahn jump through the air like a wild monkey, eyes gleaming with appreciation.
"Why are you slipperier than an Airbending Master, kid? Let's see how long you can dodge!"
He stomped once.
The entire chamber shivered.
Pebbles erupted from every direction—walls, floor, ceiling—all shooting toward Kahn in a blinding, suffocating rain of stone.
This wasn't an attack. This was a storm.
Kahn's pupils shrank.
Not because of the stones.
But because the sight—overwhelming, suffocating—instantly reminded him of the arrow rain from that night.
The night he almost died.
But unlike that night, this time—
His mind was calm.
"Blaze—Revolving Heaven!"
A vortex of flame spun around him, repelling every stone like a fiery shield. Only after the barrage faded did the flames die down—
And then the ground beneath him softened.
"What—?!"
His legs sank instantly into sand. Quicksand Earthbending.
The whole pebble storm was a distraction.
The real killing move was here.
Across the room, Bumi pried a massive boulder—several tons—straight out of the wall with one arm.
Kahn groaned, exasperated.
"Senior Bumi… I'm just a junior! Isn't this a little too serious?"
Bumi puffed his chest dramatically.
"I'm a frail old man! And this frail old man hasn't seen a youngster as strong as you in decades! Enough talking—take THIS!"
He flung the giant rock at him.
Kahn sighed.
While speaking earlier, he'd already been gathering heat in his hand.
The condensed flame swirled, distorted, compressing into a dangerously unstable sphere.
When the boulder came flying—
He threw it.
The two forces met.
🔥 BOOOOOOM!!! 💥
The explosion shook the entire hall. Dust and debris exploded outward.
Kahn spun into Revolving Heaven again, deflecting the high-speed fragments and kicking off the impact to free himself from the quicksand.
The boulder shattered.
The chamber trembled.
The air rumbled like thunder.
A moment later, Bumi popped out of the floor, completely unharmed, and yelled:
"You little maniac! And you said I'm too serious?! That blast almost made me cough up my dentures!"
The accusation left Kahn scratching his head awkwardly.
He looked at the devastated training hall and laughed nervously:
"Uh… actually, this is my first time fighting without holding back. I got a bit excited… haha…"
He rarely had to go all-out. Heatbending gave him overwhelming advantage over Firebenders. His past battles were too easy. He'd never truly let loose.
But this?
This fight with Bumi felt liberating.
And then—
He replayed the reckless, explosive way he fought just now.
The crazy risks.
The explosive attacks.
The unrestrained aggression.
Kahn froze.
…Wait.
Isn't this exactly how Azula fights?!
Did I…
Did I get influenced by that crazy girl?
